Nic Peterson purchased this villa in 2006
We've owned property in the area for years in the San Diego Coastal community and specifically Mission Bay. We are true believers that this is the greatest place on earth!
Exclusive ground-level beachfront access with a rare and truly private patio (most are shared/community patios). Wonderful sunsets and fireworks from Seaworld. The calm serenity of the bay without the hustle and bustle of the ocean side. The spacious private patio overlooks the beach and is amazing for morning sunrise with coffee & mimosas, evening BBQ dinners (charcoal grill included), and of course, happy hour.
We had such a great time. The house was very nice and fit all our needs for a family of four, and the location was perfect! We even had dolphins entertaining us in the bay. We can't wait to book for next year.
I've stayed at a lot of beach homes and this is a great one! It was only my daughter and I, so more than enough room and we could not have asked for a better location. Had the bikes on the patio ready to roll at a moments notice; we must have ridden 30 miles that week (not bad for an old man and an 8 year old)!
Access to miles of bay/boardwalk with water, fireworks and people watching from the couch or patio! Great neighbors (+ kids and dog) and so much to do just steps or a jump on the bike away.
Garage is a huge + as is the extra parking space. I washed the jeep in the drive right after we arrived, put the top down and left it down all week. It's a beach house and so has a few quirks, but that's what makes it a beach house!
We'll be back (and back again)!
Just returning from a week at the "Private Beachside Walkout Patio" home. The location is excellent, right on Mission Bay, and only a block or two from a little entertainment district with stores, bars, Starbucks, and even a little waterpark and roller coaster ride. We found a little rental store, which provided us with bikes and the larger beach toys (stand up surfboard/paddler), and the rental seemed to have everything else we needed for our stay. We mostly ate in, which worked out well here with plenty of cookware and utensils for our party of 5 (2 adults and 3 children, ages 3-12). There was only one bathroom, but it was large enough and we made it work. We had a great stay and hope to be back in the near future.
Beginning with the positive: the property is in an excellent location. Exactly as show in the picture, all that separates you from the bay is a walking and bicycling path. It's a great, relaxing view, and convenient if you have children who like to play in the sand or want to go for a walk or run. In the other direction you are about 5 minutes' walk from Mission Beach, a really nice ocean beach. You are really close to Sea World and 20 minutes from downtown San Diego.
The area itself is surprisingly run down. The main shops nearby, minus the Starbucks, are beach dives. There are two decent places to eat in the complex behind the roller coaster in Belmont Park (5 minute walk).
Unfortunately, the house itself is extremely run down. The pictures, though clearly real, don't reveal how worn down things are. The heater in the living room looks burned out. The refrigerator is rusted; the tub has stains; the glass shower doors are cracked and the caulking moldy. The toilet seat is worn. The carpets in the bedrooms look dirty. The house smells moldy.
Other problematic issues: The garbage can in the kitchen has no lid! You have to clear it daily to avoid unpleasant smells. There was no cork screw among kitchen tools. Although they provide soap, toilet paper, and dishwasher pellets, many other basic supplies which are commonly found in rented places (often left by previous tenants or supplied) are not there: salt, sugar, shampoo, laundry detergent. We ended up leaving many of these things as we had to buy them, but didn't use them all, so it's hard to understand why non-perishable items aren't left for subsequent tenants to use, when there is no issue of hygiene.
One last negative: the path between the bay and the house has a lot of foot traffic. You get dogs doing their business on the sand, so it's not always clean to play on, and you get people walking by regularly morning to evening. This means you have people looking on you continually You get used to it, but it can be an issue.
This was an amazing "home-away" for our vacation to California, and boasted the most ideal accommodations for our family of 5. Location! Location! Location! For a family with small children, it was perfect because we could walk EVERYWHERE...the local grocery store, markets, restaurants, beach/bike rentals, Belmont Amusement Park, etc. The beachside bay was literally a few steps away, and we could easily keep a watchful eye on the kiddos from our kitchen/living room windows, as they played on the beach. It was also fantastic to be only a couple of blocks from the ocean. Our family cooked many of our meals in, and there were plenty of plates, bowls, glasses, pans, utensils, etc. We also took advantage of the free laundry facilities...a major plus for Mom! We were delighted to be only a few minutes from the Airport, Car Rentals, etc...as well as super fun attractions including Sea World, The San Diego Zoo, Museums, and others. Even-though small...the villa was very spacious. The beds weren't luxurious, but plenty comfortable. Our children enjoyed having their "own" sleeping spaces, as one of the rooms had two twin beds, and we were ecstatic to find a pack and play for our toddler. The kitchen/bathroom could use a little updating, but overall was VERY nice and SUPER clean. The patio/grill area offered a large outdoor living space and our children were excited each evening to watch the Fireworks from Sea World! We enjoyed all of the little conveniences as well...provided beach towels for example! We highly recommend this beautiful property, and can't say enough. It truly made our vacation memorable. Our family had such a nice time, and we packed all we could into our 1 week stay. Thank you, Peterson Family for sharing your amazing space with us!
Nice spot right on the bay. The villa had everything we needed for a family of 5. Very well located near the Belmont park and a few good little restaurants and markets. Beach rentals available about a block away. Super convenient to have the water right there, and the patio/kitchen area right off the beach. We had a great time. Thank you.
Located on the sand and water in the heart of Mission Beach near the historic Belmont Park area. Walking distance from great restaurants, bars, markets, entertainment etc. Right in the midst of what most consider the premier location in all of San Diego (we like to think the world).
