About Karl Tschida
I am travelling to Costa Rica for more than zwenty years to visit my friends and to enjoy my holidays at my finca. I have studied and worked here and over the years Costa Rica became a second home land for me.
Karl Tschida purchased this House in 1993
Why Karl Tschida chose La Suiza
Finca Pura Vida is situated in the middle of lush mountains and rainforest in the idyllic valley of the Armado River. The nearest village, La Suiza, is approximately 1.5 km away – far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature but close enough to meet your daily requirements even without having to use the car. The ten hectare ground of Finca Pura Vida offers ample space to swim in the river, to take walks, to sunbathe or to simply relax.
What makes this House unique
Good starting point for ACTIVITIES: Explore the beauty of Finca Pura Vida by foot and enjoy spectacular views all around. There are so many paths to take – you will discover something new every day. Rafting: Costa Rica is well-known for its excellent rafting facilities. The rivers Pacuare and Reventazon – both close to Finca Pura Vida – rank among the top ten rafting rivers in the world. Volcano-tours: You should visit the volcanos Turrialba and Irazu which you can see from the finca. The Turrialba is active since a few yours so you should get information at the park-administration if the access is permitted. National Park Tapantí: Tapantí is located a few kilometers south of the Orosi Valley. Walking In the park you have the oportunity to see abundant tropical rain forest and with a bit luck some wildlife. Furthermore, you can have fun canyoning, you can go on guided walks or mountain bike trips or you can enjoy a day on the back of a horse. For a real adventure, try Canopy! It’s an exciting and novel way of seeing the rainforest. Hooked to a steel wire rope, you will fly from treetop to treetop and experience the rainforest from a bird’s eye view. If you have no head for heights, however, you better stay on the ground. Guayabo National Monument If you are interested in Costa Rican culture, go to see the Guayabo National Monument. At the foot of Turrialba volcano, approximately 20 km North East of Turrialba town, there is a archeological excavation site showing a pre-columbian settlement. From Fica Pura Vida, take a day trip to the biggest National Forest in Costa Rica, to Parque Internacional de la Amistad. Here you will find Costa Rica’s highest mountain, Chirripo, and some aboriginal people reserves.

Beautiful, tranquil home on the river
This place was lovely. It was an easy and short drive from the quaint town of La Suiza, where there is a great grocery (and a good inexpensive dinner place right at the turnoff for this place). The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Hot water worked great. Kitchen had all we needed for a few days. We had such a peaceful and wonderful time. The river is right out the front door and you can hear it at night. If you're a birder, the sunbittern and fascinated tiger-heron both made appearances for us in January.
Relaxing two weeks at Finca Pura Vida
We spent two weeks here from February 13 to 27. Loved the serenity and surroundings. It was a little rustic but hot showers and everything we needed (except a spatula?). The town of La Suiza and its people were great. As birders, the daily views of the Sunbittern(s) were a big plus. We had over 115 species of birds at the finca while we were there. Highlights in addition to the Sunbitterns were Crested Guan, White-necked Jacobin, Fasciated Tiger-Heron, Torrent Tyrannulet, Northern Bentbill, Buff-rumped Warbler, and both oropendulas.
Probably our biggest enjoyment was sitting on the porch each morning with coffee and watching the birds at sunrise. Hope to get back soon.
Thank you Tom. I hope to welcome you again soon at my place.
This is a magical spot, tucked away beside a small river and surrounded by mountains. The backyard is full of flowers and interesting plants -- coconuts, papayas, and bananas! We enjoyed hiking up the river in our water shoes and relaxing on the hammock in the evening.
The nearby town of La Suiza is within walking distance, although we were happy to have a four-wheel drive rental car. Everyone in the town was very friendly and accommodating as we cobbled together sentences of broken Spanish from long-forgotten high school courses. Most of all, the caretakers, Jaoquin and his wife Flora were exceptionally kind and welcoming. Jaoquin showed us around the property, eagerly answering our questions about the flora and fauna of the region.
We ate dinner in La Suiza one night, and we cooked food we'd purchased from the market the other. The cabin had all of the utensils and pans we needed -- just make sure to bring any seasoning you'd want other than salt and pepper.
In summary, a rustic, relaxing cabin nestled away in breath-taking surroundings!
Peaceful and Beautiful
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time here. We have 2 boys ages 5 and 8 and we were looking for an alternative to the beach for Easter weekend. We found the perfect spot. We loaded the car with supplies in San Jose and headed out of town. The drive is beautiful with overall pretty good roads. We have an all wheel drive SUV and we had a bit of trouble on the road down to the cottage but this is currently being repaired. The caretaker Joaquin was incredibly kind and helpful. He stopped by to check on us everyday and was great with the kids. The cottage is well designed and organized. It was actually fairly cool at night and we slept well. The porch and bbq area are great. We grilled and spent a lot of time outside. The river is cool and safe. The kids spent at least half the day in the river exploring and playing. I could get online on my phone but we decided to take a break from the internet and tv so it did not bother me that we were not online. We did bring our computer to play music. It was very helpful to have a washing machine available. We did not spend much time in town but it looks cute and you would be able to buy food there. Overall it was a relaxing vacation and we would return again. Our dog loved it there too!
A beautiful, tranquil location next to the river.
This is a simple, yet beautiful home in the most stunning location. There are many types of butterflies, birds, lizards and other types of wildlife in the area and you can spend hours just watching the days go by. My husband and I spent four of the most peaceful months here. The river next to the house is amazing and is almost the only sound that you will hear. The property is near the lovely town of La Suiza where you will find everything you need to help make your stay enjoyable. The administrators, Joaquin and Flora are the most amazing people, very warm and welcoming and very helpful. The owner of the property is very knowledgable about the area and Costa Rica and is never more than an email away. We loved our stay so much, that we both shed a tear when we had to leave. We have already booked our next stay for his wonderful place.
