This is the Extremely rare. "On the Beach" Beach house. Over 100 years old. This charming Old Ocean Front Inn was converted in the 80's to a 2 family home. I live in 1 unit. It is rich in character and history and has been modernized with everything you could need. Steps off the deck onto the sandy beach. Breath taking views from your 40' deck overlooking Willard Beach and the islands. Watch the ships, from cruise ships over 1000' and tankers as big to the local lobster men as they all pass right in front of you. Located on a neighborhood beach, this home is only 10 minutes from Portland's Old Port Area and the waterfront. About John Murphy
I have lived here at Willard Beach for the last 34 yrs. It is a wonderful place and I really love sharing it and my home with all the Great family's I have met over the years. It is a magical place no matter the time of the year.
John Murphy purchased this House in 1983
Why John Murphy chose Willard
When you walk off the street into the front yard you will have the answer to that question? The first thing you see is a small almost private neighborhood beach. Ay one end you see the historic Fort Preble, which is now Southern Maine Comm Coll. then you see the Spring Point light house. To the right you look past at least 6 islands directly in front of you and then at the end of the beach you see the historic Willard Fish Shacks. These were used by local fishermen for over a 100 years. not to mention the various pleasure boats mooring off the beach. I have lived here since 1983 and expect with a little luck and some help from above that this will be the only place that I ever live, winter or summer, spring and fall everyday is special here at Willard Beach
What makes this House unique
This is the only rental home in the neighborhood that is located "Right on the Beach". You walk off the porch and right onto Willard beach. There is a great enclosed area for the little ones.

Our stay at the Beach House on Willard Beach was relaxing and comfortable. The view from the 2nd floor deck is amazing. Everything was clean, neat, within walking distance from area eateries, and the walk along the beach was right outside the front door. John is personable, accommodating and a wealth of knowledge about the area. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week.
We had a wonderful stay. John is great host. The views from VERY large 2nd floor veranda are to die for. Sitting there, watching the sale boats while having your cup of coffee is awesome!
Home is not modern but very clean and functional for a beach house. We would eat meals on 2nd floor veranda with friends (10 total) with plenty of room! John has a nice propane grill there for your use.
We weren’t prepared for cool breeze off the bay, but John lent us jackets! How nice
Couldn’t ask for a better view! House was plenty comfortable for our family of 4, John the owner is super friendly and accommodating, and our kids couldn’t get enough of the beach!! Highly highly recommend.
Beautiful views with all the comforts of home!
This place was perfect for our Annual Memorial Day Weekend trip. Plenty of room for everyone, including the dogs! The deck was the highlight for us. Could sit there for hours and enjoy the sights. The dog friendly beach is right in front of you and we had a blast each day watching people play with their dogs. We took many walks on the beach which was clean and free of dog poop. John, the owner, was very friendly and left us to enjoy our time there. However, it was very clear he was available if needed for any thing you may need. The house was clean and stocked with bathroom linens and toilet tissue. The bedrooms were also completely set up with plenty of pillows and blankets. The kitchen is small but had all you need, except the food, to prepare meals and snacks. We loved our family time here in Willard Beach and can't wait to book it for an adult trip with friends next time! Thank you John!
Beautiful oasis - perfect for our getaway weekend!
Old Willard Inn was absolutely charming. Right on the water, excellent accommodations, and John - the owner - was great! He was around if we needed anything but left us to enjoy our weekend. Seven of us ladies rented it out to celebrate one’s upcoming wedding. The scenery was amazing and we weren’t far from anything we were interested in seeing. We would definitely rent this place again! Thanks John!
The Ladies were Great. Glad you had a Good Time!! So glad the weather was nice and that you got to celebrate your wedding. Please come back with your family's in the future.
Absolutely beautiful view. Great place with a wonderful wood burning fireplace. Everything we needed. John is a wonderful host. Would definitely rent again.
