Rancho Loco is perfect for your desert hideaway home away from home. Come rain or shine, Rancho Loco has something beautiful to offer. When it's sunny, drinks by the pool, quiet time on the veranda with a book, watching the sun rise or set and enjoying some good barbecue with friends and family. When it's stormy – get cozy on the couch with a fire crackling away, a home cooked meal with a glass of wine while you watch the clouds roll in over the dramatic landscape, framed by the huge picture windows. Rancho Loco also affords extra privacy with separate living quarters, the cozy & bright main house and the open & airy studio.
Located on its own secluded 20 acres, minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, Rancho Loco offers 360º views with over 50 Joshua trees, yuccas and native desert foliage all on the property. Situated between the two houses is a salt water swimming pool with an observation deck, perfect for sunset viewing, outdoor dining, and maybe even a skinny dip under the stars. Rancho Loco is a rustic modern take of a 1920s ranch house updated to today's standards including solar power as its primary source of energy and water drawn from a private on-site well!
Rancho Loco is a great affordable base no matter what your interests are – rock-climbing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, model rocket launching [our fave], novel writing or just relaxing by the pool. So please do not hesitate to contact us if you want to get away and visit this magical California vacation home location.
We, Karen and Marcus, have lived in Los Angeles since 1990 and take great joy and pride in making things better.
Marcus Wright purchased this house in 2001
We purchased this property after many years of traveling to Joshua Tree as a get-away. It became our home away from home with the space, privacy and solitude that was hard to come by in Los Angeles. The idea of a two hour car drive putting you in a different world creates an invaluable peace of mind.
More than just a base for exploring Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding area, Rancho Loco is a self-contained resort. It provides all the comforts of home in a spectacular setting. Unlike many vacation homes in Joshua Tree, Rancho Loco provides a year round experience due to the salt water pool, which provides the remarkable sensation of cool blue water beneath the hot summer sun and the limitless night skies.
I have rented this property once last year. Returned again with my partner & a friend. We had a great stay house has everything you can think of ;) we know some friends in the high desert in Yucca that came by for some chicken on the grill and a dip in the pool. Was great another friend of ours has a shop in town where we saw a great art exhibit . Was great to go visit and be able to return to our sweet cozy home & the fact that our friend had there own quarters to relax in. Was wonderful will def rent again. I highly recommend this beauty.

We are so happy to have found this property and we can't wait to come and stay again. The set up was perfect for two families with two kids each, plenty of living space and sleeping space within the main house, and the casita. The whole décor and set up is low key, comfortable, tastefully done with beautiful planting and fencing around the property. There were so many places I wanted to sit in peace and look at the mountains, or desert, and Joshua trees, and sunset, but our time was mostly spent around the pool, playing with the very happy kids and pool toys supplied. The place is solar-powered, which is brilliant, of course it should be in the desert! This is probably why water pressure in the shower in lower than we are used to, and water not quite as hot, but this was a minor observation. The kitchen was well equipped and we are outside for all our meals, under the metal arbor. Neighbors are visible at a long distance, not interfering with the sense of isolation at all, and the network of indistinguishable tracks heightened this impression. Easy to get lost without satnav. Marcus, the owner, was super easy to contact on a couple of things, and kindly let us return to the house after check out when we had a minor car accident and needed to wait for a tow-truck (if you head to the Giant Boulder, word of caution, make sure you aren't driving a low urban vehicle, hybrid SUV at least...)
Rancho Loco is even more beautiful than in the images. It feels secluded enough to be relaxing but very convenient in terms of location as it was only a 10 minute drive to the store if needed. The kitchen has everything you might need, condiments, appliances, and more. The place was immaculate and the style had a fun personal touch which made it feel comfortable. Made good use of the grill and the iphone hookups to the sound system were perfectly placed (little details like that made a big difference in our stay). Marcus was responsive and also answered any questions we had before booking the stay. Both the booking and the stay was fantastic. Would definitely love to stay here again.
This is my 2nd time staying at this magical desert hideaway. If you want to get away from it all and unplug this is the house for you.
We spent 3 nights here as part of a family vacation to be close to Joshua Tree National Park. The location was ideal to the NE entrance of the Park - 15 minutes away. We felt like we were in our own private retreat. The desert scenery was expansive. We felt as if we were in this very remote getaway, but yet the convenience of the grocery store was within 10-12 minutes of the house. The house has a fun, eclectic, artsy appeal to it. I appreciated the extra cooking amenities available in the kitchen i.e. spices, salt and pepper, ketchup, mustard, etc...
Rancho Loco is exactly as advertised. The owners made everything easy with clear instructions. Our family loved the serenity and tranquility of this very roomy, very comfortable, very warm and friendly home. Our teenagers loved staying in the guest house, and the movement between the two houses and the pool area was very fluid. We spent several days hiking in Joshua Tree Park, but otherwise, only ventured into 'town' as needed. We were completely happy hanging out at Rancho Loco. The showers are a bit 'campy', but in all respects, our needs were met. Thanks to the owners for a wonderful escape!
Year round Joshua Tree activities and festivals, Big Bear is an hour away for skiing and lake activities, Palm Springs and Palm Desert communities, airport, shopping, and aerial tram within one hour drive, Las Vegas is just under 4 hours away for gambling and whatever else floats your boat, Los Angeles is just over a two hour drive.
