Secluded 20 Acre Retreat with Guest House and Pool

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Rancho Loco is perfect for your desert hideaway home away from home. Come rain or shine, Rancho Loco has something beautiful to offer. When it's sunny, drinks by the pool, quiet time on the veranda with a book, watching the sun rise or set and enjoying some good barbecue with friends and family. When it's stormy – get cozy on the couch with a fire crackling away, a home cooked meal with a glass of wine while you watch the clouds roll in over the dramatic landscape, framed by the huge picture windows. Rancho Loco also affords extra privacy with separate living quarters, the cozy & bright main house and the open & airy studio.

Located on its own secluded 20 acres, minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, Rancho Loco offers 360º views with over 50 Joshua trees, yuccas and native desert foliage all on the property. Situated between the two houses is a salt water swimming pool with an observation deck, perfect for sunset viewing, outdoor dining, and maybe even a skinny dip under the stars. Rancho Loco is a rustic modern take of a 1920s ranch house updated to today's standards including solar power as its primary source of energy and water drawn from a private on-site well!

Rancho Loco is a great affordable base no matter what your interests are – rock-climbing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, model rocket launching [our fave], novel writing or just relaxing by the pool. So please do not hesitate to contact us if you want to get away and visit this magical California vacation home location.

About Marcus Wright

We, Karen and Marcus, have lived in Los Angeles since 1990 and take great joy and pride in making things better.

Marcus Wright purchased this house in 2001

Why Marcus Wright chose Joshua Tree

We purchased this property after many years of traveling to Joshua Tree as a get-away. It became our home away from home with the space, privacy and solitude that was hard to come by in Los Angeles. The idea of a two hour car drive putting you in a different world creates an invaluable peace of mind.

What makes this house unique

More than just a base for exploring Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding area, Rancho Loco is a self-contained resort. It provides all the comforts of home in a spectacular setting. Unlike many vacation homes in Joshua Tree, Rancho Loco provides a year round experience due to the salt water pool, which provides the remarkable sensation of cool blue water beneath the hot summer sun and the limitless night skies.

Always fun!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 5th stay at Rancho Loco and I can’t say it enough... it’s such a great place to stay. We really enjoy the privacy, pool + leisure comfortable relaxing outside the most. This year we arrived to see the newly remodeled main bathroom which was very well done. Thank you Marcus once again for your hospitality and for sharing the gift of this place. We love it and are so grateful.

Nice layout and location

  • 3 of 5

The house and pool were great. Location to the park was good. Interior was inviting. However, did not appreciate that the gas grill did not work, that the floor fan provided did not work, and that many of the cooking pans that then needed to be used were filthy - many with other food still in them. When contacting the owner and the contact person I was provided with excuses or just “that’s the way it is” responses. So - nice place if you anticipate these issues as I did not.

Owner's Response: Of course we are sorry that the stay was not up to your, or our standards. We have never had issues with the grill in the past though it is old at this point. I appreciate that you spent the time to get back to working order since it is working well after your stay. As for the pans, they are sometimes cleaned by he guests and returned to the cabinet in an unsatisfactory manner. I consider my cleaning people to be the finest in the area, but we will consider this situation in the future and be more careful about the things we do not see left out. Again, I apologize for anything that may not meet expectations. And we will continue to endevour to make things better.

Rancho Loco for the win

  • 4 of 5

My group had a great stay at Rancho Loco. It's far enough away from the town to feel like you're alone in the desert. The property is great and offers a lot, from the pool/bbq to the acres of land that you can walk and explore. The only reason i'm putting 4/5 is because the bathtub in the main bathroom would not drain so we used the shower in the pool house, and the toilet in the main bathroom would start to leak from the base after multiple uses, so we started using the pool house bathroom for that too. Other than that, this place is a dream!

Owner's Response: Well, glad the stay went well. Of course our apologies for any plumbing issues. We do our best but the system is a bit old and has its issues every now and then. Usually when something comes out we can have a plumber on site very quickly. However long term we are going to do a major renovation on the water systems this spring. Try us again. Cheers. M.

an absolutely peaceful retreat out in the high desert

  • 5 of 5

we have been coming to rancho loco for years & it is one of our favorite places to relax & enjoy a proper getaway. it's a beautiful, secluded home w/ a wonderful layout for group gatherings or solo chill time, properly equipped w/ an indoor & outdoor kitchen; it's the best place to catch a glorious sunset & star gaze by the fire at night. the warm months also make for some proper poolside hangs & backyard bbqs. we look forward to each rancho loco visit & can't wait for the next one. thanks marcus!

Excellent, every time.

  • 5 of 5

Rancho Loco is the perfect desert get away. The park and town are accessible if you want to explore, but it is also very easy to spend your days never leaving Rancho.

Especially with such a great pool, sound system, and the fire pit for the evenings. You really couldn't ask for much more.

The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and crockery, making self catering easy.

The the space is excellent and feels very secluded as they closest neighbors are only just in sight.

We've stayed at a couple of different places in Joshua Tree, and Rancho is by far our favorite. Great for weekends with friends, as well as trips with parents and families. We will continue to make return visits.
