Delightful Cottage for Six People

Penney Cottage is located in the 14c village of Heytesbury, about 5 miles southeast of Warminster and just off the A36 Bath to Salisbury road. The cottage was converted from 2 small labourers cottages and comfortably accommodates up to 6 adults.

It has 1 and 1/2 baths... a large dining room able to seat 8 dinner guests and a spacious living room with a wood burning stove. A fully equipped kitchen has an electric stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher.

Close the windows when you leave. Run the dishwasher every (2-3) days to prevent calcium build up. Run it empty if necessary.

Feel free to drink some of the liquor in the living room cabinet, but please replenish it if you finish the bottle. Do not allow young children to be alone in the East bedroom. The windows are just above floor level. The house faces south.

There is to be no smoking in the cottage. The fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen. Do not let the wood stove get hotter than 500° F.

The French windows in the living room lead out to the secluded garden that is set up with tables and chairs for your afternoon tea. Also, there is a separate washer and dryer in the laundry room.

Bath-24 miles, Salisbury-20 miles, Stonehenge-12 miles.

A real home from home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Penney Cottage four years out of five and love it. Four lovely and spacious bedrooms, very comfortable beds and a big dining room and lounge with wood fire. The kitchen has all modern conveniences and the laundry has both a washing machine and .dryer. A cosy and comfortable home in a lovely quiet village. Just 3 miles to Warminster supermarkets and surrounded by many beautiful English villages with quaint pubs and lovely gardens.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect time in Davids cottage. All rooms were clean and tidy, the kitchen was well equiped although some bigger cooking pots would have been nice, since a family of 5 with grown-up kids need a lot of food. The cottage was very cosy and we felt at home in minutes. What added to that feeling was the bottle of wine which was waiting for us when we arrived. In the living room we found a well-stocked bookshelf with books on the UK history and landscape and in addition a couple of maps to help discover the area. And there is a lot to discover! Very nice looking into these books and maps while enjoying a nice fire in the fireplace. We had a great time and we can recommend Davids cottage to anyone.

Charming English Home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful countryside with more historical sites than time allowed us to see. Penney Cottage provided us a centrally located, fully updated yet historically lovely place to stay with our visiting adult children. Everyone from the owner to the maintenance people to the local pub owners were friendly, helpful, and concerned that we enjoyed the cottage and all that this area has to offer. A great experience

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was so easy to work with and so helpful with many suggestions on things to do. He even had me call him when we arrived so that he could walk me through and answer any questions. The cottage was spacious, clean and comfortable. The weather turned chilly so we weren't able to take advantage of the lovely garden area. Heytesbury is a beautiful little village very close to Stonehenge and Salisbury. We also took day trips to Bath and Cardiff. The Red Lion Pub down the street has a very friendly atmosphere and good food. My husband took several long walks and decided he could live in Heytesbury. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the west of England.

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience was fabulous! We were 2 couples staying for a week and loved it! The owner was very helpful when we booked the stay....he answered my many questions accurately and with patience, and was very pleasant to get along with. He made booking was a very pleasant and positive experience when I was actually a bit nervous trying to book accommodations on another continent 6-8 months in advance in a different currency and sight unseen!

As far as the home itself...it was perfect for us! We wanted a comfortable home that could serve as a home base for sightseeing yet a home for visiting with friends that we don't see often (we are Americans and met our Dutch friends there for a week). The kitchen and dining room were completely furnished with everything we needed for cooking every meal (except a couple of meals at the local pub which was fantastic!) and we greatly enjoyed that part of our experience. The living room was quite comfortable and nicely furnished for visiting and watching t.v. There was a nice selection of books on the shelf with some games as well--we enjoyed using the books to find places in the area to explore (Cheddar Gorge and the cheesemaking plant was very interesting, Stonehenge is close by, Salisbury has everything and is easily worth 2 days, Bath speaks for itself, and Warminster and Heytesbury are lovely little villages as well!).

The 4 bedrooms were beautifully furnished, clean, and complete with comfortable beds! The full bath included a shower as well as a separate tub which we enjoyed in recovering from jet lag! The half bath downstairs was also very handy. Washer and dryer worked well which was nice!

All in all, this really was a perfect spot for us and I'd highly recommend it and also booking with this owner!

I want to amend a mistake in my review

  • 5 of 5

The Mistake was the name of the good hotel in Warminster, instead of The Dove Inn, I should have written The Bath Arms. Please could you amend this for me.

Thanks
