The approximately 150 year old rustic house in traditional Canarian style with garden for relaxing and grilling is located in the picturesque town of Santa Catalina, in a quiet village inhabited by locals at 100 meters above sea level. yet only a 15 minute drive west of Puerto de la Cruz. 1 km to the coast with swimming in the natural swimming pool of San Juan de la Rambla, so can also be reached on foot. Further, beautiful, smaller and larger beaches are located at a distance of 10 to 20 minutes by car.

This particular location makes it an ideal starting point for hikes along the coast towards Icod and the mountains towards La Guancha. In the resort, and only a few minutes walk from the house, there is a restaurant, a grocery store, a Bodega Bar, a newspaper stand, a gas station and a small romantic park with an adjacent children's playground.

The house has a ground floor, one floor, 280 m2 fruit and herb garden (mandarins, lemons, oranges, papayas, bananas) to relax and crickets. The first floor is occupied by the German landlord. The ground floor apartment (120 m2) has its own direct entrance and is the 1st. Floor separately. The house is in a run-of-the-street alley - an advantage for families with children. An outpatient baker delivers every morning to request fresh bread and other baked goods. The apartment on the ground floor has its own private entrance and is on. 1 Floor, which is occupied by the owner, completely separated by a door and Concluded autonomously. The windows of the ground floor apartment do not allow a direct view of the coast, as so often in historic houses and villas in the Canary Islands, but rather on the mountains. From the garden the sea and coast are visible.

The 110 m2 apartment with a garden is with married couples without children who want to enjoy the gentle, uncomplicated Canarian flair in the midst of an inhabited by locals village, far from concrete strongholds and other inconveniences, but want deposited spend their vacation and within 15 minutes Puerto de la Cruz, the largest city in the north west coast and the Loro Park want to achieve. About the new motorway sections of the beautiful Santiago del Teide route to reach the more mass tourism south of the island: Las Americas, Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos in 1 hour.

The two bedrooms can accommodate 3 people. In the living room the sofa bed offers yet another sleeping space for one adult or 2 children.

For self-catering, the kitchen with its complete facilities and dining table for 4 people everything you need to the last detail. Many culinary herbs, citrus fruit, grapes, papayas, bananas, all from organic farming can be like picking season. Moreover, in the dining room is yet another table for 6 people. A Washer, dryer and ironing board is in the next room to the kitchen.

The bathroom was renovated in 2015 non-slip shower area. The last renovation of the house, inside and outside, as well as parts of its interior and the beds \ mattresses, made at the end 2016th The entire house was and is completely bug-free.

Free Wi-Fi / WIFI is available.

The village is connected with 2 nearby stops on public bus routes.

The owner can take over the Transfert airport and provide tips for excursions and attractions.

About Gert René Schmidt

My wife comes from Mauritius and I from Backnang near Stuttgart. I worked as a musician and music teacher and my wife Dominique (hence the name Casa Dominica) the management of a hotel in Mauritius had among themselves.

As you can see from the photo, we love music, sun, sea, islands and nice people. 2014, we were finally able to implement our long-planned projects, we bought this house - after a long search - in Santa Catalina in Tenerife.

No tourist resorts with high-rise buildings far and wide, yet located near the coast and not too high in the mountains, living in the midst amiable native, garden, and yet only 15 minutes drive from Puerto de la Cruz.

What makes this house unique

The renovation of that 150 years old house, which belonged to a larger Finca once, was only completed in spring, 2015. The house, however, has retained its wayward, winding Canarian character and charm and we love it as it is. And our holiday guests we want to share our enthusiasm.

  • The French double bed has a width of 160 cm. So extra wide. Mattresses of all beds were newly purchased in the summer of 2015 and are of high quality. The bedroom no. 2 with single bed is windowless to the outside, but equipped with an internal window on the corridor.

The apartment on the ground floor has its own private entrance and is for. 1 Floor, which is occupied by the owner, completely separated by a door Concluded and autonomous. The windows of the ground floor apartment do not allow a direct view of the coast, as so often in historic houses and villas in the Canary Islands, but rather on the mountains. From the garden, whose access is about 20 meters behind the house, the sea and coast is partially visible. Many of our guests enjoy their breakfast / brunch in the morning sun and barbecue in the evening and help themselves with fresh grilled herbs from the herb corner. Loungers, chairs, tables and umbrellas are available to guests and invite you to relax in the planted, green garden.

Good location, could be even better

We stayed for 2 weeks in the apartment with 2 small children and 3 adults. Our experience about it is as follows:


- Santa Catalina is a lovely village with no mass tourism and mostly locals in it. You can walk down to the ocean, and San Juan de la Rambla is also a cute little town. With car you can use it as a great base for day trips.

- When you feel too tired to go anywhere, and just want to enjoy the sun, the garden is a nice peaceful spot to chill out.

- The flat is really well-equipped, and the baby cot was also made up perfectly.


- We traveled 14 hours with 2 small children, and just wanted to have a rest and put the baby to bed when we arrived, indeed we met with a not at all warm welcome by the owner. As soon as we stepped in, he started to list the house rules in a really imperative way, for a tiresome long time – some of them were truly unreasonable –, seemingly forgetting that we are paying guests at the house, not potential criminals. He insisted that both of us listened attentively. (It would have had a much different feeling if he just put 2 glasses of Sangria or 3 oranges on a table, together with the rules on a sheet of paper, and just say, „Hey, welcome, please take a look at the rules if you have the time”.)

- The house was really moldy. First we only felt the damp smell, then we also discovered the living mildew on the walls. This makes it uninhabitable and for those who are sensitive for it, sleeping at night terrible. I just came out of hospital with the baby a week before, he had severe bronchitis, and the effect of mildew on such diseases is dangerous. When we took notice, we didn’t get any support from HomeAway (or the owner) regarding it, even though the owner knew the condition of the house and of my baby in advance as well, and didn’t say a word about it.

- The owner was very responsive to messages, until the day I made the payment. After that, the response time grew to about 1 week. It was not a big problem, just it’s not elegant.

- You can hear everything from the upper flat, which is sometimes very disturbing, e.g. at siesta.

Overall, we had a great time during our holiday, despite the setbacks – because of the mold, we spent much more time outdoors than we wanted to, but we managed. We highly recommend Santa Catalina and that part of the island, but possibly some other accomodation.

Beautiful clean apartment in a calm area

We very much enjoyed staying at Casa Dominica in Santa Catalina. The house is very well kept up and clean. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need to prepare a good meal. The rooms (indeed, the whole house) are comfy and thoughtfully decorated. Gert takes his role of host seriously and does not cut corners. If there is a problem he is on it immediately. The property has a well kept fenced-in yard/garden with fruit trees, lounge chairs and a table. It is a very nice spot to eat lunch or enjoy the sun.

Santa Catalina itself is very small and quiet. It is almost a neighborhood of nearby San Juan de la Rambla, which is a very nice small town with bars/cafes, lots of old colonial architecture and a small but surprisingly very well-stocked grocery store (it's open until 8 PM). This is an excellent central location from which to explore the entire northern side of the island. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone staying on Tenerife.

Wohnung abseits des Tourismus

Wir verbrachten Ende März 10 Tage in Santa Catalina. Die Wohnung fanden wir anhand der Fotos von FeWo und mit Hilfe der Einheimischen - sehr lustig.

Die Wohnung ist zweckmäßig für 3-4 Personen eingerichtet.

Besonders der schön angelegte Garten, mit seinen Kräutern und Früchten, versüßte nicht nur unseren abendlichen Mojito.

Mit dem Auto ist man sehr gut an alle wichtigen Ziele angebunden und ist dennoch abseits vom Massentourismus.

Besonders gefallen hat uns das sehr gut ausgestattete "Lädele" im Ort .

Vielen Dank René für die erholsame Zeit in deinem Domizil!

Wohnung abseits des Tourismus

Wir waren Ende März 10 Tage in Santa Catalina. Gefunden haben wir die etwas versteckte Wohnung anhand der Fotos von FeWo mit Hilfe der Einheimischen - war lustig. Die Wohnung ist für 3-4 Personen zweckmäßig eingerichtet. Bei schönem Wetter konnten wir den einladenden Garten genießen mit seinen Kräutern und Früchten, was unseren abendlichen Mojito noch schmackhafter machte.

Mit dem Auto hat man eine sehr gute Anbindung zu allen wichtigen Zielen der Insel und ist doch abseits vom Massentourismus. Besonders gefiel uns das sehr gut ausgestattete "Lädele" im Dorf.

Vielen Dank René für die entspannenden Tage in Deinem Domizil .

Wohlfühlen und Genießen im typisch canarischem Fl

Genau wie beschrieben erwartete uns ein netter Hausherr in seinem liebevoll gestalteten Canarischen Haus .

Der Paradiesgarten stand uns zur täglichen Verfügung. Sogar die köstlichen Früchte konnten wir ernten.

Viele Tips zum Inselleben waren hilfreich. Ein netter Grillabend mit Konzert vom Hausherren rundete unseren Besuch ab. Sauberkeit und gute Kommunikation bewegen uns dazu gern wiederzukommen. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Vielen Dank
