Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area: The Bungalow is located in Wallace, ID only 12 miles west of the Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation area.
Lookout Pass is the original Idaho ski area having documented skiing and a home made rope tow in 1935. The local ski pioneers chose Lookout Pass because of the abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality which they could access by jumping on the Northern Pacific railcars as they proceeded east from the mining towns of Wallace and Mullan, Idaho. These ski adventurers would hop off the railcars at the summit and utilize a highway storage shed as a warming hut that they nicknamed “Buzzards Roost”.
Lookout Pass has operated every winter season since 1935 and has a reputation for legendary powder, earliest openings, and longest season in the region. The number that really matters is an average snowfall of 400' of light Northern Rockies snow.
Silver Mountain is 11 miles west and offers the world's longest gondola. Winter skiing and summer mountain biking.
Route of the Hiawatha: Stay in Wallace and ride the trail.
This portion of the Olympian Hiawatha route has been called one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches of railroad in the country. The 'crown jewel' of rail-to-trail mountain bicycle trails is operated by Lookout Pass Ski Area which is located adjacent to Hiawatha TunnelI-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, 12 miles east of historic Wallace, Idaho. The Hiawatha Trail is typically open daily from around May 24 thru October 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PDT.
Winding through 10 tunnels and 7 high trestles, this 15-mile route crosses the rugged Bitterroot Mountains between Idaho and Montana. The Route of the Hiawatha is best known for the long, dark St. Paul Pass, or Taft Tunnel, which burrows for 1.66 miles under the Idaho/Montana state line.
Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes: The Bungalow is located 4 blocks from the Wallace trail-head of the 74 mileTrail of the Coeur d'Alenes.

Owner's Story-I am a remodeling contractor. My wife, The Professor, brought me out west here looking for a second house. A week later we bought this house. It is now a polished gem, a relaxing getaway for us once every summer and a ski home for part of each winter.
Tomi Lyle property manager purchased this house in 2003
To rent, contact Tomi Lyle, property Manager. Owners are Geoff and Alice O'Meara. When we first looked at the house,Silver Mountain had announced it's expansion. The local real estate agent had never seen the interior. When she showed the property to us she said, 'you can't have it! I want it!' Nonetheless we made an immediate offer and had an acceptance in 3 hours time.
Since then we have remodeled bathrooms, plumbing(including a 60 gallon hot water heater),finishes, etc.
We would like to share it with you !

The Bungalow is a cute place, well located for enjoying the town on Wallace and all the outdoor activities in the vicinity. However, the rate was well above some other places listed on VRBO. In addition, a non-refundable $60 cleaning fee was required AND we had to clean everything except bedding. (Vacuuming an entire 2-story house was not in our vacation plans.) The worst part was that, the lodging fees and a $500 deposit were required well in advance, IN CASH. The $440 refundable part of the $500 was not returned for over 3 weeks after our stay. I will not do business in this way in the future. It was too risky and unorthodox.
We have stayed at the Bungalow three times with family over the past two ski seasons. It is like visiting Grandma only she is not there...you need to bring her! It is clean, comfortable and ready to enjoy. Our last visit had the fire already set and warm for our arrival.
Our experience was very positive. The location of this property was very convenient for the activities that we had planned, biking the Hiawatha trail. There were 6 adults and 1 child in our party and the property was very comfortable for sleeping arrangements and facilities. The listing description was accurate. The property was clean and very satisfactory. I would recommend this quaint, older home to friends and family. We enjoyed walking the streets of Wallace, taking in the older, small town charm. We enjoyed a good meal at the Smokehouse. We would definitely want to return some time.
What a wonderful place to stay!! It was better than the everyday hotel. It had the little things that made it special like the hammocks you hang out in for hours or the interesting artwork around the house. Wallace is a great, relaxing town that also had the great outdoors surrounding it. I cannot wait until I return, and I cannot wait to go back to the ski slopes for a few more days.
Our.circa1900 house has lots of amenities, Internet, kitchen gadgets. Newly remodeled private bathrooms upstairs. Steamy all-tile bath downstairs.
Other Activities: Silver and Gold Mine Tours - Brewery tour

Golf: 3 local golf courses @ 6, 10, and 12 miles.
Ski: Lookout Pass has local powder 12 miles away at the top of the interstate 90; then 100 yards and park within 100 ft. of the lift on most days.
