The cottage is surrounded by lush, beautiful gardens, tranquil water features and an old-fashion tree swing. It sits just steps from the bay and the best sunsets you can imagine.Your coffee will still be hot when you step down to the beach to read the morning paper and do some dolphin watching. After you arrive back at the cottage from a day at the beach, perhaps you will want to surround yourself with nature by relaxing in our lovely butterfly and hummingbird gardens. You can grill up lunch and enjoy it in the screen house. Just picture yourself enjoying pre-dinner cocktails on the pond terrace listening to the sounds of the waterfall. After watching the sunset, you and the family can gather around the firepit and roast some marshmallows and listen to the distant horn of the ferry. Creating great meals right at the cottage is a delight with our chef's kitchen and you can enhance your favorite dishes by helping yourself to the various organic herbs and edible flowers that I grow. Feel comfortable knowing that I do not use any chemicals anywhere in the garden.
Our natural bay-beach is just steps away, FREE, and abounds with wildflowers, dune grasses, butterflies, and dolphins. Some of the best memories we are creating are right here with family and friends in Townbank. For me, there are so many relaxing, pleasurable activities such as biking on the flat, picturesque roads, walking the beautiful, natural beaches, enjoying the gardens, kayaking, and shopping the specialty shops of Cape May. Leisure time can also be spent hunting for 'treasures' at the many antique shops and yard sales. We enjoy the family oriented neighborhood, quaint country church for Sunday services, great wines right out of the boutique vineyards nearby and wonderfully fresh local produce and seafood right off the boat! Cape May is known for its local artisans who provide wholesome breads, wildflower honey, organic vegetables, wines and beach plum specialties. I don't use chemicals in the gardens, so feel free to help yourself to my many herbs for your dishes, edible greens and flowers, or just watch the birds enjoy the blueberries!
Anne Marie purchased this cottage in 2005
It only took one visit to Townbank and we were hooked. You, too, will fall in love with this quaint family community of single homes on tree lined roads with some of the oldest and largest trees in South Jersey. My family used to come here when I was a child and it hasn't changed very much since then. We fell in love with our cottage in the village of Townbank, bought it immediately, and have been working on it lovingly ever since. We enjoy every moment being there and so will you. You won't want to leave, I promise!
What we love about our cottage's location is the proximity to historic Cape May. A lovely seaside resort resplendent with beautiful Victorican homes, wonderful shopping, sightseeing and whaling excursions. If you enjoy the excitement of the rides and games on the boardwalk, then you will love Wildwood...we are so close, yet so far from the those maddening crowds. In Townbank, we have absolutely no problems with traffic, parking, or late-night revelers. You'll have crickets, cicadas and the distant horn of the ferry to serenade you while you're star watching around the fire pit. Not really a beach person, but still want to experience a great getaway? You can have nature take you away by just spending time in our shaded, lush gardens. We decorated the cottage comfortably so you will feel right at home. If you miss one of Townbank's world-famous sunsets, don't worry, we have a beautiful 25' mural of a gorgeous sunset that you can see anytime...night or day. Come spend your vacation in our very special, very peaceful Garden Cottage by the Bay.
We had a great time at this cute cottage. We were very close to the beach and could make it back for potty breaks and lunch and snacks. The beach is quite and the water was just right for my toddlers.
My sister and I rented this cottage to celebrate retirement. We had seen the pictures online, but they didn't do it justice! As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we fell in love with the beautiful landscaping - flowers, birdbaths, water features, lighting, garden sculptures, a swing, and to top it off, an amazing screen house! Then when we went inside where we were met with music playing on the stero, and a beautiful open floor plan, glowing candles, and two porches with fans drawing in the fresh breezes. We walked the few steps to the bay and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset!!! The owner had left a thick folder of brochures and suggestions, and we took advantage of many of her favorite places. We could not have asked for a better way to start our retirement!
We had a wonderful weekend staying at this lovely cottage. The cottage is beautiful, spacious & very clean on the inside & the gardens are exceptional. So relaxing at the end of the day listening to the garden fountain. The location is just a few minutes walk to the beach & close to all the attractions & great restaurants in Cape May. When we arrived, the owner Anne Marie was very gracious & left us a nice lunch. We had dinner at Freda's Cafe & Tisha's right in the center of Cape May. Both were excellent. Many of the restaurants were closed for the season but there was still plenty to choose from. Lots of great shopping for items made by local artisans at the "West End Garage" on Perry Street. I would highly recommend staying at this location & I hope we can return many times as this has been a great experience. Thank you!
We went to this beautiful cottage this past weekend for a Girls Get Away Weekend. What a beautiful cottage to spend time with friends. It is decorated adorably and is just so charming. We had our coffee on the beach each morning and it was only a short ride into Cape May. The beds are so comfortable, it was well kept and very clean. Mrs . Waxman was a pleasure to speak with on the phone and returned my e mails promptly. This cottage is on a small, quiet street, the neighbors we encountered were very friendly... Next time, we will stay longer. What a great escape ! The fire pit was nice to sit around chatting, enjoying a glass of wine... the pond was nice to listen to the sound of the water....
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage near the bay. It was convenient to everything in Cape May and a very short drive over to Wildwood Boardwalk. A 10 minute drive into Cape May proper and the lighthouse. Perhaps a 25 minute drive over to the zoo. The cottage was extremely clean and well stocked. We had lunch and dinner there almost every night. Beds were comfortable and we really enjoyed the living area with all the windows overlooking the backyard. The backyard is magical. Words can't describe it. The owner has put her heart into that yard and it shows. We could not get our daughter off the tree swing and my husband enjoyed reading by the waterfall. Our daughter loved riding her scooter up and down the quiet road. We really enjoyed sunset at the bay and swimming there. It is three houses down and lovely to walk along the shore. It was our first time renting a beach house and the owner could not have made it easier. She was available by phone when we had questions and everything was where she said it would be. We definitely plan to come back and spend more summer vacations at this delightful cottage. We highly recommend it for a quiet beach vacation away from the crowds.
We had a delightful stay for three nights at this comfortable and magical place. The location is really convenient for seeing all of Cape May, and we loved walking to the bay beach each evening. The gardens are a work of art and we used the screened gazebo for lunch every day. The house is well stocked and the owner is wonderful and helpful. Highly recommended!
My husband and I spent a peaceful and relaxing weekend in this charming "home away from home". The living spaces are spacious, bright and very comfortable. The large, well equipped kitchen is perfect for informal family cooking and dining. The cottage is on a quiet tree-lined street, half a block from the beach - the perfect place for children, and for watching sunsets! The crowning glory of this unique and welcoming cottage is the gardens - outdoor 'rooms' that are magical and entrancing. Much loving care has gone into the creation and upkeep of these outdoor spaces. Cape May and Town Bank are short drives for shopping and dining and Cape May's Victorian charm is unique. Garden cottage is definitely a great place for a relaxing weekend or week.
