About Richard Deslongchamps

Here at Moosetracks we try to do only one thing and do that well: We provide our guests with comfortable, clean, reasonably priced vacation cottages in a serene pond-side setting. Our guests enjoy spacious fully equipped rustically modern cottages surrounded by acres of private woodlands, wildlife habitat and mountain scenery. All this and only a few minutes from Greenville and all the recreational activities the area has to offer.

Why Richard Deslongchamps chose Greenville

Small towns are unique in that everyone knows everyone and everyone looks out for everyone else. There was a natural gravitation towards Greenville for that reason. Here we know our neighbors, people wave at each other when passing on the road.

What makes this cottage unique

It was luxury starting with a blank sheet of paper. Here we could raise the bar. We could design cottages to take advantage of the unique setting and terrain. We had 40 acres and a half mile of shoreline to play with.

Sunrise, our third cottage, finished in the spring of 2007, was designed to be a handicapped friendly vacation rental retreat from the start. It was built in the 1930’s craftsman style, yet has all of the modern conveniences one expects, including central heating, full baths and fully equipped kitchen. Everything we did in this cottage was with wheelchair accessibility in mind. Not only can a handicapped person live in this cottage independently but others will find it quite functional themselves. Furnishing a “North Woods” cabin required a combination of campy and rustic cedar furniture. Decorations in and around the cottage are definitely in a sunny motif.

The grounds combine existing native trees with open space and perennial gardens tended to by Pat. An ADA compliant ramp winds down thru the woods to a private dock just for this cottage. The sighting of this cottage, tucked in behind some rock ledges, gives one a feeling of total privacy.

The real uniqueness of this property is that over 90% of our ponds shoreline can never be developed thanks to conservation minded land owners. These same landowners allow us to maintain marked trails thru the woods for hiking, snowshoeing and wildlife viewing. Although we are only 6 miles from town the feeling of the pond and woods along with the wildlife makes one think you are much more remote.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Pat and Dave,

Thank you so much for the lovely cottage to rent. We had a wonderfully relaxing week here on Prong Pond. We thoroughly enjoyed the canoeing and kayaking on the pond and the girls enjoyed some swims. We had great fun on a white water rafting trip down the Kennebec River with Northeast Guide Service. We loved all the plantings, fauna and wildlife. Going to sleep to loon calls on the first night was magical. We enjoyed your dog Cera's company, stuffed animals beware! She loved our lab Lilly's flat rabbit. We also enjoyed our neighbors and met up at the fire pit for smores twice, nice company. Thanks again for a wonderful trip. Hope to see you again. The Guarnaccia Family Carlisle, MA

Great time at Prong Pond

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the Sunrise Cabin. The facility was in excellent condition, clean, and had everything we needed to enjoy the week. We had a party of 8 and there was plenty of room for sleeping. Great area, had a moose hang out by the dock most of one morning and visited us by the cabin on her way back to the woods!

clean quite beautiful place to relax

  • 5 of 5

this is our 2nd time at sunrise. THIS IS A TRUE ADA approved and very easy for a wheelchair bound person. Big open inside and bathroom is a major plus plus. Chair can go right to the pond on a dock to enjoy the loons, moose and ducks that travel by.

Very quite and close to town if you forget anything. Its out of the way but not too remote. If you want to unhook this is the place.

Just what we were hoping for in a cottage in Greenville

  • 5 of 5

The sunrise cottage was just what we were looking for in our stay in Greenville. The only concern I can think of is the smell from the water but it's a common problem for the area. Every thing was clean and set up just right. There were 8 people in my group and we were all comfortable inside the cozy cottage. Towels and wash clothes are Minimal so if you have a big group consider bringing your own. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to visit Greenville and we would stay there again.

Beautiful and Clean Waterfront Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed coming to the Greenville area and I’m so happy we stumbled across this cabin on Prong Pond. The pond is beautiful and we enjoyed the ability to get out on the water in the canoe provided.

The cabin is clean and comfortable. We generally do not pick cabins that are pet friendly due to allergies, but this one was definitely clean. Our only complaint, especially with traveling with a young child, was there was no access on site to a washer and dryer. That would have made the trip much easier on us. There were ample towels and supplies provided. The kitchen was also clean and well stocked.

Overall, very nice cabin and stay! Make sure to utilize the drives provided by the owner so you can catch a good glimpse at the moose in the area!

Rustic beauty

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time! Our entire family doesn’t get together as much as we would like so when we do it is an event. My husband, myself our three children, our son and daughter in laws and my mother in law stayed here and we all had a great time. We brought our12 year old Labrador retriever, a three year old Golden and six month old Golden retriever and it was so spacious that the dogs were not underfoot.

It was so comfortable and relaxing. The beds were comfy, the house was an open concept with all you would need (linens, dishes etc were all provided)

We had very little internet service which for us was good becoase we had all we needed .. each other. It was good to be off the grid and just focus on the important people in our lives. We played games, did a huge puzzle, went kayaking canoeing, fishing in our boat, hiking on Little Moose mountain and Little Kineo mountain, ate one night at the Stress Free Moose in town. We barbecued on the deck, took the dogs swimming at Lilly Bay and saw 13-15 moose over the four days we were there. There was so much more.. we had a memorable time. We may be back! We tend to try and do a different area every time we do a family trip but you know what, we had such a blast we may be back! I would recommend your place to anyone! Thank you Richard for your hospitality the maps, the hiking trails, driving trails and Mike for all his help!!

A Successful Trial Run

  • 4 of 5

We’ve been looking for a new vacation location to bring my aging mother to since my fathers passing. The Moosehead Lake area had been a longtime family location site so Prong Pond was perfectly situated. The camp was lovely with pleanty of space for everyone. Mike, the caretaker, was friendly and accommodating. The only thing that could be better would be to have separate fire pits, but we did enjoy the community fire pit. There’s no doubt that we will be back.

As you leave the endless traffic lights, strip malls and Wal-Marts behind, you will travel thru lightly populated rural Maine to Greenville. Once here you are now in a small outpost town at the edge of the 'Great North Woods'. It is different here; small shops, plaid flannel shirt diners and a couple of wilderness outfitters. Around you are Maine's largest lakes and numerous smaller ponds along with the headwaters of several notable rivers including the Allagash. Mt. Katahdin, just to our north, anchors the northern end of the Appalachian Mtn. chain. Surrounding you are several million acres of working forests, home to the 'American Loggers'. The only traffic jams here are for moose sightings. And this is a recreational wonderland; canoeing/kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, climbing, ATV and snowmobile trails, not to mention fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing. We will refer you to our website for detailed turn by turn directions to Sunrise Cottage when needed.

Other Activities: snowmobiling, xc skiing, snowshoeing, white water rafting, wildlife watching
