This property is located between Ox Lake and Loon Lake of the Whitefish Chain, and has frontage on both lakes. The lake home faces Ox Lake. Ox lake has no public boat access/launch. This means it is a quieter lake with better than average fishing.
We have docks on both lakes, but you will only be able to launch your own boat on the Whitefish Chain side of the property. We furnish a rowboat, canoe, paddle boat, and kayaks free on the Ox Lake side. An outboard motor can be rented for the rowboat. County Road. 66 passes through the west side of this large property. The road is over 350 ft. from the home, so you see no traffic and it is still very peaceful. Ox Lake is a 254 acre, 72 ft deep, extreme clear lake with no public access.
Ox lake is known for it's pristine beauty and fantastic fishing for bass and panfish. Ox has a pine studded island that eagles are currently nesting on - bring your camera!
From the Loon lake dock, you can explore the 13 lakes of the Whitefish Chain with its bars, restaurants, and water sports.
Back at the lake home you can gather around the 17 ft tall, fieldstone fireplace in the great room or enjoy the peaceful outdoors on more than 800 sq. ft. of decks. The new lakeside deck is 58 ft wide and has views you will never forget. The lakeside firepit is also a favorite spot.
There are 7 sliding glass doors and lots of windows in this 3000 sq. ft home so you can enjoy nature from the inside too! The 4 season porch is a wonderful room for casual meals or curling up with a book. The large master bedroom (14X18) has it own sliding glass door to the deck. All bedrooms have queen sized beds. Ask about special fishing guide rates for renters! Maximum number of guests is 8 people.

In the early 80's I visited the Whitefish Chain area and decided that I wanted to spend as much of my free time there as possible. My favorite lakes were Trout and Ox lakes because they were the clearest lakes in the area. I bought my 1st cabin in 1982. It faced Ox Lake and also had a dock on Loon lake. Ox lake has no public access so it is still very pristine and is loaded with fish. I also kept a boat on Loon lake so I could enjoy everything that the Whitefish Chain had to offer.
The Owner purchased this house in 1993
Having had a cabin on Ox Lake for many years, I decided that I wanted to build a lake home. I waited 5 years for the perfect piece of land to become available. It is a 450 ft deep lot with Ox Lake on one end and Loon Lake on the other. Route 66 runs through the Loon Lake end of the land. The home was built facing Ox Lake to enjoy the large Norway Pines, Eagles, and serenity offer by that lake. My dock on Loon Lake gives me access to the Whitefish Chain and all of it's fun.
You will be amazed by the clarity of Ox Lake. It's like boating on an aquarium. If you choose to, you can canoe to the north end of the lake, portage over the beaver dam, & you are on Little Ox Lake. This is a small 60 ft deep lake with NO CABINS! Great fishing in a wilderness setting. You have free use of our canoe, paddleboat, rowboat, and kayaks. There is also a 14 ft fishing boat with a newer Yamaha 4-stroke 9.9 HP outboard that can be rented very reasonably for using on Ox lake. On the Loon lake side you have dockage available on our 30 ft long dock. This property is large, beautiful and very quiet.
We enjoyed it all, the view, the clean water, the private grounds, the fully equipped house. Everything was as stated in the ad. Big kitchen, with all needed items, clean and comfy beds, large living area with view of lake. The boats and kayak provided were a good way to tour the clear lake. The fish also were willing to bite, my family enjoyed them also .Crosslake provided many things to do, nice shops, good food places, and a nice supermarket. We grilled, fried fish and cooked inside, also had a bonfire and made smores. What a awesome time at an awesome place. Thanks Dick for sharing your place.
Our family of eight (7 adults and one toddler) recently stayed at this beautiful lake home and had an amazing time making new family memories! The house is gorgeous, the views are incredible and the lake is clean and peaceful. We had plenty of space inside for family cooking/meals, playing games and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed the lake and made full use out of the kayak, canoe and paddle boat. A highlight of the week was a relaxing and informative pontoon ride hosted by Captain Dick, the gracious and friendly owner of the home. We will be back!
The house and its surroundings are picturesque and did not disappoint. If your interests involve fishing, swimming, paddling, boating or just plain relaxing, look no further than this Lakeside Home.
Our family of five spent a week over the 4th of July and endured nothing but a fabulous time. Ox Lake is a private oasis with minimal fishing pressure and situated just far enough from the quaint town of Crosslake. The seclusion of the Ox Lake was a plus for us as we allowed our three boys (15, 11 and 9) to fish at will from every provided vessel and never worried about their safety.
The real gem is Dick, the owner. He is nice, respectful, available and treated us like family. You will not find a better host.
Thank you for a week of beautiful family memories.
Our grandsons, 9 and 6, have now enjoyed a family week at "Captain Dick's" each summer in their memory. Family visits in between are filled with memories, stories and speculation about next time. "How far will we swim?" "How many Sunnies will we catch?" "Might we plan on at least two S'more nights around the fire ring at sunset?" This splendid property facilitates the most wonderful vacation experiences and that is a tribute to the owner's attention to hospitality and detail. We also appreciate the peace and tranquility of being on the lake, but away from the road.
We have had a group of 6-8 family and friends stay here for the past 4 years and everyone continues to be impressed. As others have said, Dick is available when you need him and is nowhere to be found when you want your privacy. There are ample ammenities in the home and when it comes to grilling out or having a fish fry. We have never boated on the Whitefish Chain while staying here, only boating on Ox Lake. That lake is fantastic for fishing with amazing water clarity. For those who eat fish, they taste very clean and we have filleted plenty of fish to take home and to give to others. You can catch really good size bass and sunnies right off the dock, but we bring our boat up and catch a lot of largemouth bass and for the past 3 years have pulled in a northern between 8.5-9 lbs. You can't ask for a better rental property and Dick is the best any of our group has ever worked with.
The only thing that would put it over the top would be to have a newer TV with an HDMI hookup so we could use our Apple TV or computer to play movies on a rainy day. ;-)
Thanks again Dick for another wonderful year and more memories!
My wife and I and our sons, daughter and daughter-in-law spent two incredible weeks at this property this summer. The property is exceptional and exceeded the posted description! The owner was absolutely wonderful--attentive to our needs with a brief orientation when we arrived and then available as needed throughout our stay. The entire family loves to fish and everyday we did so with lots of action. It remindied us of the fishing contests we had when the kids were little--only now, the fish were bigger and more plentiful! This place was perfect, nestled into a quiet and serene setting but close enough to all the action in Crosslake. The lake is quiet and often we had it to ourselves. We ran, hiked or biked daily. We golfed at five different area golf courses and the gals had their share of fun shopping the area boutiques. When we weren't dining in or having a fish-fry, we walked to one of several area establishments for dinner or drinks. We would definitely recommend to others. We plan on return trips.
