Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Maratea - Villa Fabia

max. 4 people in a large park estate, bay, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

„Un posto incantevole“ – and it is truly a special charm which lies over the private premises which Villa Fabia, entwined with bougainvillea, is located on.

Enjoy the view of the sparkling sea from your terrace while the fragrance and sounds of nature touch your senses.

It is about 200 m down the sloping premises to the sea and the private bathing area in a rocky bay.

On the way, you pass the centuries old pine forest which provides pleasant shade on hot days.

Every now and then, rays of sunlight penetrate the lush vegetation, bathing the surrounding area in mystic light.

You can rest and unwind on the brickwork benches, which the owner had put up.

Villa Fabia and two other villas, Villa Giuliana and the owner’s villa, lie on 3.5 hectare park-like premises in the district of Fiumicello.

The holiday home:

The villa’s interior displays tasteful furnishing and the wood beamed ceilings typical for Maratea.

The villa sleeps up to four persons in two bedrooms, a double and a twin.

The two bathrooms (shower and bathtub with shower device respectively, WC/bidet), which are accessible from the bedrooms, are one of the villa’s conveniences.

The living-dining room includes fireside, TV, sofa and dining table.

The kitchen is equipped with gas stove, oven, dish washer and refrigerator.

Outdoor area:

The spacious, partly roofed sea view terrace provides outdoor living space with sunbeds and garden furniture. During the summer months, the open pavilion completes the summertime atmosphere.

The barbecue in the garden comes in handy on long evenings out in the open.

Furnishing:

Villa Fabia includes, among others, washing machine, fireside, dish washer, central heating, barbecue and outdoor shower.

Parking:

Two cars can be parked below the house, on the private property.

Surroundings:

The sea and the bathing area in a rocky bay are only 200 m off.

The nearest beaches are 1.5 km off.

Shopping facilities and restaurants are found in the district of Fiumicello (3 km) or at the harbor of Maratea (4 km).

The town of Maratea is 6 km off.

Tips:

Go for a swim at Maratea’s numerous beaches which, in 2013, have again been awarded the 'Bandiera Blu', the Blue Flag, for best water quality.

Magic of the Mezzogiorno

Although the imposing cliff line near Maratea is geographically not part of the Cilento anymore, for us – like for many other experts on Southern Italy – it simply belongs to the Cilento.

Here, between Campania to the north and Calabria to the south, lies the only access to the Tyrrhenian sea of the Basilicata region. Within this coastal strip of 25 km, you will find one of the last bathing paradises of Southern Italy.

Crystal clear water and lush vegetation, which stretches from the beach up to the heights of the hinterland, distinguish the landscape around the famous small mountain town of Maratea.

Idyllic and yet unbelievably lively – especially at night –, Maratea with its narrow alleys, squares, bars and exquisite restaurants still spreads the magic of the Mezzogiorno. And all this is crowned by the conspicuous statue of the Messiah on Monte San Biagio.

Dream coast and bathing paradise

Gorgeous sandy and shingle beaches as well as magnificently clean water invite you take a sunbath or a swim anywhere along the Costa di Maratea.

Particularly lovely shingle beaches can be found near Marina di Maratea. Castrocucco with its kilometres of sandy beach mark the southern end of this unique cliff line. A distinctive feature of the Costa di Maratea are its black lava beaches and the sea with its turquoise shimmer, e.g. at Cersuta.

At Porto Maratea, boat tours and diving courses are organized from May to mid October.

It is also possible to visit several fascinating lime stone grottos which are accessible only from the sea.

Maratea, the famous small mountain town

Maratea, founded in the 13th century, lies on the steep northern slope of Monte S. Biágio. The heart of the historic old town is Piazza Buraglia, from where you can explore the centre of Maratea conveniently on foot. Via terraced alleys you arrive at Piazza S. Maria Maggiore with the church Chiesa Madre.

In the baroque monastery building of the Convento dei Cappucini, which is located somewhat outside the old town to the east, there is an exhibition of archaeological findings from the area, which allows an insight into Maratea's ancient past.

'Cristo di Maratea'

From Maratea, there is a scenic road to Monte S. Biágio (624 m), where you will find the Santuario di S. Biágio, which was built upon the remains of an ancient Minerva temple between the 6th and 7th centuries by Brazilian monks and was then redesigned in the 13th and 18th centuries.

In the Reggia capella, the relics of the patron saint S. Biágio are kept, who is celebrated for an entire week at the beginning of May.

On your way to the peak and its statue of Christ, which measures 21 metres in height, you will pass the ruins of Maratea's oldest district.

From the peak, you have got a wonderful view of the Costa di Maratea.

National park Parco del Pollino

With almost 2,000 sqkm, Parco del Pollino located round the Pollino massif is the largest national park in Italy.

It offers ideal conditions for hiking and mountain biking.

With its nature still intact and its contemplative mountain villages, you will enjoy pleasant stays.

By the way: The Cilento National Park is only 30 km away.
