Right on the Castro
Very nice apt - perfect location as we spend a lot of time in the Castro area, beautiful view.
Andy the owner was very hospitable, and close by if we needed anything. He even picked us up & returned us to the airport when we left.
Great stay in a great city!
My family and I had a great trip. Everything was wonderful! The proximity to the public transportation could not have been better. Great neighborhood! Best of all the owner Andy was unbelievable! Airport pick up and drop off, tour of the area were very nice. His pre-trip information was also so helpful! Thanks again Andy
Quaint location for San Francisco stay
We picked this location strictly based on the listing (providing concierge style service) as well as the reviews (everyone LOVED Andy) and I must say that everything was spot on! The listed in 100% accurate and Andy is absolutely wonderful! The location is small but was enough for the three of us (adults) as we really only were there for sleeping, showering and coffee in the morning. One thing to note: There is no central air or heat, but Andy does provide space heaters to use which were a great help. The Castro area what outstanding! Lots of great places to eat or grab a drink/coffee within walking distance. One warning: The hill leading up to the apartment is NO JOKE. Quite steep and about 4-5 blocks from Castro. One gets quite winded trying to walk up that at the end of the day, so plan on taking the 24 bus that drops you off at the top of the hill!!
Andy could not have been a better host for our needs. While we didn't need to bother him too much, he was there to take care of anything that came up. Even offered to shuttle if needed, but we used public transportation for our stay. Tip: buy your MUNI pass via their app and save a few dollars. Will cover you on buses, subways and trolley cars.
There are lots of choices to say in the San Francisco area, but if you don't need alot of room and want to be close to everything, Andy's spot would be a great choice!
Charmer in the Heart of the Castro
The host lends just the right level of attention with fun stories and useful information. The unit itself is cozy, the beds are comfortable, and the place is clean, though the rococo bathroom and low ceilings made me wish for overt references to Alice in Wonderland. The location is exceptionally convenient via public transportation or on foot, so skip the car! Unless you're a wizard with a microwave, don't expect to cook here ... there is a fridge but no stove. But that's fine because San Francisco (Mama Ji's, the Cove on Castro, R&G Lounge, Harvey's).
3 day stay in san francisco
Andy was most helpful and gave us tour of the district
The rooms were cosy and clean
And the pickup and drop off a real bonus
Excellent location and host
My friend and I were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near The Castro on our recent trip to San Francisco and this home suited our budget and needs well. The Castro is about 10 minutes walk down hill the apartment, which is fine but bear in mind after a couple of sherries, the walk back up might be a little harder! :)
The basement apartment is below the hosts home and has all the amenities you would want - please note though, the only way to cook food is by microwave. Not having a cooker was not a problem for us as we intended to eat out each day. There is also a fridge, kettle and coffee maker which we used to sort out our breakfast needs (basic provisions can be bought from the local 24 hour pharmacy). The apartment, although small, had a seating area, dining area, two bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds and a well appointed bathroom with bath and over shower. Perhaps a little dated, but absolutely fits the overall charm of the building.
What made our stay so great is Andy, the owner. He picked us up from the airport (despite being over 5 hours late), showed us around the neighbourhood pointing out local landmarks on our way back to the house and then explained everything in the apartment in detail. He made it clear from the off that should we need any kind of support during our stay, he would be be available. Andy even offered to take us to the airport so that we could continue our onward journey to Las Vegas which we kindly took him up on. Andy is a friendly, funny and knowledgeable host who has lived in SF for over 40 years so definitely tap into his local knowledge!
The only downside to spending time at this house was the expectation of cleaning costs. When I leave a room, holiday let, etc. I always clear up, strip the beds, etc. but in the paperwork it was suggested that we should leave a $80 contribution to the cleaning costs. For some less conscientious visitors, I think this might be reasonable but given we only really slept in the apartment and cleaned up before our departure, we felt it was perhaps too steep. We did leave a tip, not to insult but no where near that figure.
If/when I find myself back in San Francisco, I would absolutely return and would definitely recommend this property to others.
San Francisco has both bay and ocean exposure. It's a city of hills and of course views. It also has fog; layering clothing is advised. We have a great public transit system with cable cars acquired from around the world and beautifully restored. We have many incredible National Parks less than one hour away and we have street fairs where artists sell their work all summer long. And with 24/7 concierge service if it can done in or around San Francisco, I can make it happen.
