About Stuart Tabman

My wife and I live in Seminole Florida and also stay in our Murphy North Carolina cabin for a month or two every year. I am from New Jersey originally and Melody from Pensacola Florida. I spent the past 25 years in the health club business and my wife in radio advertising. We now own a sports jewelry business called Milestones Sports Jewelry as well as our vacation rentals. We love the peaceful surroundings and the slower pace of the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Stuart & Melody Tabman

Stuart Tabman purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Stuart Tabman chose Bryson City Area

We started visiting the mountains of North Carolina in the early 90’s and fell in love with the area. We got hooked on rafting the local rivers and hiking the endless trails. Thus began a search for the perfect property. We wanted enough acreage to have privacy and seclusion, a spectacular view and yet still be close enough to all the action and adventure. We found Eagles Nest in 2002, then designed and built the 2400 square foot cabin in 2004.

What makes this cabin unique

One of our greatest joys is to read the comments about the special vacations and memories people have created at the cabin. Whether it’s a romantic vacation, an anniversary, a family vacation or friends having fun our customers have experienced it all. The peaceful surroundings make Eagles Nest a great place to just talk and reconnect. As one customer wrote “We found the time to have long talks and to talk about nothing! It's as if the view inspired us”.

We hope you enjoy all the area has to offer and keep coming back for new adventures in the mountains.

Magical Spot

  • 5 of 5

We've lost count how many times we've stayed at ENH, but it never disappoints. I always feel the magic as we approach the house. Once outside, the view instantly calms us and we know we're in a very special spot. The house is super cozy and comfy. You can visit, cook, play games, sit in the hot tub, sleep and enjoy the view the entire time. The bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in; it comes complete with a step to aid you in climbing into its comfort. Kitchen is fully stocked. The firepit and bench make for great storytelling and giggling. This will always be one of my favorite places.

Pleasant Stay

  • 3 of 5

The house and the view was nice and clean and the view was great. The house was a nice size for our group of 5 with very large bedrooms. The pool table was fun to use and so was the hot tub and fire pit.

I thought based on the map showing we were right in middle of the Nantahala National forest that there would be hiking nearby. We had to drive 40 minutes to each of the three hikes nearby.

Also did not know it took 30 minutes to get to the grocery store until I talked to the owner a few days prior to arriving. This was not particulary convenient.

The drive up the mountain to the cabin was not at all scenic. It was littered with broken down boats, cars, and trailers.

The hot tub was not cleaned upon arrival so they drained it in the middle of our stay taking the hot tub out of play for an entire day while it reheated. Also was a bit gross to realize we spent the first two days in someone else's murky water.

The drive into the cabin development was challenging and if there was snow I don't think our van would have made it. Our parents stayed in another cabin nearby and were afraid to drive so we had to go get them multiple times per day.

When we arrived the place smelled bad but it was only because they forgot to run the garbage disposal.

There were no hot tub towels so I was doing wash often to keep everyone in dry towels until the management company dropped some off.

The power went off and on several times one night waking everyone as all the electronics came back online. The night before checkout the power went out all night. We were cold and frustrated that we had to pack wet laundry from the washer, fill the toilets with water from the hot tub, and just put a real damper on the last night and morning of our stay. It was very hectic and cold. No way to make breakfast for the kids.

The wildfires also negatively impacted the trip. Our older boys were playing in the surrounding woods and were full of char from the burns. One of the three hikes was severely impacted.

Owner's Response: Let us begin by thanking you for the compliments however, we would like to take this opportunity to address this review point by point for our future renters. Great hikes are located just 8 minutes away, including one of the most famous trails in the world; The Appalachian Trail. There are also several hikes just 12 -20 minutes’ drive, including “Tsali” with sections of the trail following the shoreline of Lake Fontana. The grocery store is 30 minutes from the cabin, which is why we contact guests and suggest they shop for at least the first 3 days prior to arriving at the cabin Two convenience stores are within 12 minutes of the cabin. Throughout the entire mountain region of Appalachia you will see some broken down autos and an occasional school bus. These vehicles are located on back roads not in our community. When you visit Eagles Nest please take note of the beautiful meandering creek as well as the small waterfall and beautiful local white church. We want to assure future renters that our hot tub is maintained expertly by certified spa technicians and are drained, refilled and treated with the perfect amount of chemicals prior to your arrival. We were not informed of the hot tub being dirty until the 3rd day and a technician was immediately sent out. The technician noted that there was a colander found in the tub and rocks in the filter. That was not there when the hot tub was cleaned prior to this guest’s arrival. Snow - We want all our guests to be reassured that we monitor the weather very closely and are in close communication if snow is in the forecast. If so we take proper & appropriate action. Our guest’s safety is our number one concern. There was no snow prior to or during this particular visit. We apologize for there not being enough hot tub towels on your visit. Once notified, on your 3rd night’s stay we immediately had towels supplied the next morning. We only wish we were informed sooner so we could have fixed the problem sooner. Wildfires - We had wild fires that burned through our entire community and came within 25 feet of our home. There is still some ash in the mountains which got on your children and we are very sorry that it ruined your hike. We are just glad our homes and the forest were saved by the brave fire fighters. We have no control over weather and power outages but together with our management company we will do everything we can to ensure all our guests have a safe, pleasant and memorable stay

Amazing Cabin & view!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I just returned home from 9 incredible days at Eagle's Nest Hideaway. Hideaway is a fitting description & perfectly describes what we did. This cabin & the spectacular view were just too beautiful to leave. The cabin is so comfortable & wonderfully appointed. The King bed in the Master bedroom is the most comfortable bed we've ever experienced. The hot tub & fire pit were in perfect locations, & we spent a great deal of time in both. But the star of the show.... THE VIEW, was captivating! We were also struck by the quiet.... nothing but the sounds of nature.

We did occasionally drive the 4 miles to the bottom of the mountain to have lunch, dinner, & short walks at the NOC which was very handy.

As I write this, the words seem lacking. You MUST experience this cabin. We are already preparing to book next years trip. Thank you to the Watershed Cabins staff. & thank you to Stuart & Melody for sharing this home with us.

Breathtaking view.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is very remote and secluded yet well equipped with all the amenities you could ask for including Direct TV and WiFi and even a land line so you feel safe. It is so quiet here it would be a great retreat. The King bed on the main floor was extremely comfortable. I could sit on that deck with a glass of wine drinking in that view for hours. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay celebrating 32 years of marriage.
