Our wonderful De Witte Leeu (The White Lion) Wharf Cellar Bed and Breakfast in Utrecht is ideally situated in one of Utrecht’s most charming neighbourhoods: the Museum Quarter. You’ll find De Witte Leeu at just a short walk from Utrecht Central Station at 249 Oudegracht (Old Canal) amidst quirky little shops, fun bars and affordable restaurants in full view of the world-renowned Dom Tower.
Our Bed and Breakfast has something special to offer. Located on one of Utrecht’s original canals, our wharf-cellar-turned-guesthouse has a truly unique view and location, offering an authentic experience for any visitor to Utrecht. There is a twin bed in the back and a sofa bed in the front. For babies a cot and baby chair are available. Regretfully, we do not allow pets. Also smoking is not allowed.
The cellar has its own climate system; summer and winter it’s possible to adjust temperature between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius
We're very lucky to live in the most lovely city of the Netherlands in an original Medieval Canalhouse and we 'll be happy to share this with you. Come and stay in our unique Wharfcellar and have a great time! Hilda and Rudy
Hilda purchased this apartment in 2014
De Witte Leeu is a generous 40 m2. It contains a kitchenette with all necessities to fix a meal, such as a fridge, a microwave, a Nespresso coffee maker and so on. Of course we offer free Wi-Fi and there’s a flat-screen television for your entertainment. The sleeping quarters with its king-size bed (two box springs) and a small but comfortable bathroom are situated at the back of the cellar. For babies a cot and chair are available. If wanted your baby can sleep in a separate room.
In a separate area at the front you’ll find furniture for use on the wharf. Weather permitting you can sit out to relax, eat and watch the boats go by. You can store your bicycles also in here.
Wonderful canal apt, nicely decorated and laid out. Perfect for two or three guests. In the midst of historic Utrecht which offers fine dining, pleasant strolls along the canals and, of course, a visit to the amazing Rietveld Shroeder House.
This medieval modern apartment is elegant and rustic as well as wonderfully located with all the essentials in the center of Utrecht. Hilda was a lovely host providing wine, chocolate and a bike during my 2 week stay. I did not want to leave and hope to return very soon!
We had such a wonderful stay at B&B De Witte Leeu! The rental had everything we needed and more. We were very grateful for the 150 movies stored on the television and wound up watching one almost every night. Thank you so much for the hospitality. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to The Netherlands.
This apartment is chic and conveniently located. Hilda and Ruud were welcoming, hospitable, and helpful. We loved the wharf location! We give the apartment and hosts our highest rating. Can't wait to return!

The Witte Leeu is surrounded by shops, museums and restaurants. The train station is about 10 minutes. By Bus 2 it is even faster; the bus stop is 200 meters away. The cozy Twijnstraat (the oldest shopping street in Utrecht) is 500 meters away, where you will find bars and restaurants and a supermarket and canteens. The Domtürm is 400 meters away from us!
The immediate surroundings of the White Lion offers a variety of restaurants and cafes in all price ranges. The Jos Stelling Arthauskinos are just around the corner. And, of course, numerous museums and galleries, such as the Central Museum, the Catharijneconvent Monastery, Museum 'from Musical Clock to Street Organ' and the university museum with botanical garden, all just a few minutes walk.
From the Witte Leeu you can easily walk or bike along the Kromme Rijn, for example, after Amelisweerd or Theehaus Rhijnauwen. Or rent a canoe or electric boat and sail to the Vecht or the Kromme Rijn.
