I am a single man who lives alone in the main house. The property is big enough so that guests and owner's paths rarely cross...although I am available at all times for any reason necessary.
tim purchased this villa in 2000
The Villa Sophia is located in the eastern Hollywood Hills, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. Although you are walking distance to Los Feliz Village where you can find all the conveniences of a major city, up here in the Hills you feel as if you are in the country. The guest house faces south providing all day sunshine and the only sounds are of the birds singing, the gentle breeze blowing and the soft murmur of the fountain...
Peace and tranquility with views, all day sunshine, ocean breezes in total luxury.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Villa Sophia for three wonderful nights. Since we live in different cities, my girlfriend always comes to visit once awhile. We try to stay at different places every time instead of my own. So we have been to the SLS, the W Hotel Westwood, Sofitel at Beverly Hills, Chateau Marmont etc...Compare to most of the accommodation in LA, we like the Villa Sophia the best in every aspect.
Nowadays, “A hidden gem” has been overused so many times, but the Villa Sophia is really the place that matches this phrase.
As soon we walked into the villa at night, the night view of downtown LA just amazed us. The view was just as the same as you can get from the Griffith Observatory. And the next morning when we woke up, everything surrounding the pool house makes it unbeatable. The house, garden and pool just brought an aesthetic and illusionary feeling of being in Tuscany instead of busy and crowded Los Angeles. The uniqueness and tranquility just can’t be found at those fancy Beverly Hills hotels (Although some of them are very cool hotels, but compared to the private space you can have, they are even more expensive).
Despite the perfect atmosphere and scenery, the details of the house are still among the best. The room is equipped with beautiful floor to ceiling windows, marble shower room with steam system, aesthetic paintings, decent stereo and books and movies! The bed is super comfortable, and my girlfriend says the shower product is her favorite and the best (Tim you really have a good taste!). Also there’s microwave, dinnerware, any daily necessities.
The owner, Tim is such a considerable host that makes sure everything is here and functional for your needs. He never makes you feel ignored but never being intrusive. His cute dog Sophie always came for her biscuits which Tim puts in a pool house cookie jar. (there are gates surrounding the pool/guest house area if you want privacy from Sophie)
Words and pictures can’t really explain how amazing The Villa Sophia is. Just go and experience it yourself. We are already planning to visit Tim and Sophie and stay there again.
Thank you, Tim, for opening your place to let us experience and appreciate the true beauty of The Villa Sophia.
We always love staying at the Villa Sophia when we need to be in LA. No hotel can compare. It's quiet, comfortable, and luxurious. It's always clean, and offers all kinds of small amenities that make the stay even extra special: waters, lovely soaps, make-up towels, q-tips, wine glasses, cheese boards, coffee, tea, white linens, and a huge steam shower. Excellent.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Villa Sophia. It is even better than the pictures! Clean, quiet, private setting. Beautiful views. Wonderful pool & hot tub. Gracious host. Good restaurants close by. Doesn't get any better than this!
Tim was warm, welcoming and easy to work with. The place was everything we hoped for and more. The steam shower, gas fireplace, pool, jacuzzi, and views... it was the perfect setting to relax, unwind and reconnect. Perfectly quiet and private, and romantic. We wished we could've stayed longer -- next time.
I know when you see photos like these you think they must be photo-shopped or he got just the right angle and the whole property can't be that great. That's what I thought too. But literally every square inch of this property is amazing! We spent every night watching the sunset over the city from the comfort of our hot tub. The exclusive neighborhood is on a really narrow windy street with no thru traffic and is ultra-private. The first night we were there we discovered that there wasn't any hot water. Tim the owner was easy to contact and he immediately went into action fixing the problem (gas pipes had flooded due to recent rains). He actually brought us champagne and cheeses for the inconvenience. His dog Sophie is adorable. When looking through the guest book we saw that many people were repeat customers and I definitely see why. We truly felt like celebrities staying here and would stay again in a heartbeat! One thing to note: its not a full kitchen so if you have plans to cook, you may need to rethink. There's a mini-fridge, microwave, dishes, etc, but no oven or stove. Also, if you have mobility issues, there are 50-odd steps going up to the guesthouse so keep that in mind.
This is our second time staying at Villa Sophia and unlike other rentals that are not kept up with time this one only gets better. The place was as wonderful if not better than how we remember it. Tim is a gracious host and a pleasure to do business with, see you in few years!!
We had a fabulous stay at Tim's lovely home. Not only was Tim a pleasure to meet (as was Sophie!), but the home was a delight to stay in. We made use of the pool/jacuzzi and the fabulous steam shower to great effect. The added touches within the home were superb! The espresso maker within the well stocked kitchenette was an unexpected bonus and the many adaptors Tim provided for use with the sound system were so thoughtful.
Tim was a wonderful host and warmly welcomed us to his home. He also graciously assisted us when there was a minor issue with the fridge (promptly fixed!) and when we foolishly couldn't open the door (Tim rescued us late at night and kindly showed us we were turning the key the wrong way - our apologies again, Tim!). During our stay there was also an evening photo shoot and Tim made sure to speak with us well in advance of our visit to make accommodations for this brief inconvenience.
The location of the Villa Sophia was perfect for our needs. The sweeping views of Los Angeles were breathtaking to see in person both during the day and lit up at night. When we did leave the Villa we were able to easily access many of the attractions we were interested in and also enjoy the charming Los Feliz area.
In short, this property is highly recommended! This was our first stop on the way to Thailand, but next time we will have to reverse the order and make this our final destination!
