I live in Gainesville with my two children and we love our weekends at our river house. We are happy to be able to let other families enjoy this wonderful home.
Rhett Lewis purchased this house in 2006
We absolutely love the beautiful untouched beaches. We love being able to jump in our boat and head to the Ocean as well as the intercoastal or up the river. The boys constantly fish off the dock, play in the sand, or hang out by the pool. There is enough space for all our family (several generations) to get together and we always have requests from friends to have pool parties and BBQ's!
Watching huge ships cruise by, big pool, great views from the decks, plents for everyone to do with the pool table, multiple family rooms, fabulous kitchen, great fishing, close to shopping and beaches...
Thanks so much! We really appreciate it! And we did so love the house and hope we will be able to stay in it again!! We could totally get used to that!! The neighbors were great, they are on my facebook now!! My guy fixed their boat; they got towed in while we were sitting there, so my guy to the rescue!! He does it a lot!! Thanks again, we will highly recommend your house! I have a ton of friends on Facebook that have made lots of comments & some questions, and have all been sent to the link! Hope you get some new people from me!! Thanks Bunches!!!
Have a great day!!! :0)
We loved this house! It was great to have two living areas (and be able to see one from the other to keep an eye on the kids). The pool was large enough for us all to play in. It was fascinating to watch the ships go by. And the nearby beach is excellent. We had 6 adults and 5 kids and the grandparents came over for day visits. We had plenty of room. Highly recommend this house (and I'm picky). We'll probably come back some day.
I arranged this stay for my son's bachelor weekend. There were 7 of us and the house could have easily accommodated more. In our advance planning, we had scheduled a day-long fishing trip and another day at the beach. Aside from the fishing trip, we pretty much kept to the house. I say this because the house was so comfortably equipped that, along with its spaciousness, the pool and the view of the river, there was absolutely no need to go anywhere else.
It was quite obvious that Rhett, the owner, has done this many times. Checking in was flawless and a very nice gift bowl of fresh fruit, wine, etc. awaited us inside. We did a bit of cooking and grilling and like our accessories. We lacked for nothing in this regard and the kitchen was amply equipped. The pool-side grill was as big as a full-sized Webber Summit and the 6-burner gas range and oven was quite nice. There was also a full spice rack.
The property was unbelievably equipped. There were three full size refrigerator/freezers (one in the kitchen and two in the garage), three waist-high refrigerators (two in the pantry and one pool-side), three dish-washers, board games, backgammon sets, feeding bowls for pets, etc. The bathrooms were amply supplied with wash cloths, towels, hand-soap, body wash, shampoo, etc. As an ex-submariner, it was nice to see the attention to detail.
I noticed a previous review indicated that it was a bit of a trek to the nearest grocery store. I have family in the area and knew the closest store was about 20-30 minutes. Knowing that in advance, we planned ahead and picked up supplies on our way in.
All-in-all, we had an incredible stay. Considering how large and well-appointed the house is, this would be a great place to come for a week-long family retreat. I found out during our fishing trip that the trout and flounder fishing available from our dock was excellent. Alas, we had no days left at that point.
Final comment . . . Bravo Zulu to Rhett for providing well-appointed, excellent accommodations.
I rented the Jax River House for my husband's surprise birthday/family-get-together weekend. Everyone loved the house; felt like a luxury resort stay. The master is huge; the hubby and I had coffee every morning on the balcony deck off the master. The 5 bedrooms and pull out sofas fit our family of 15. Plus we invited a few local friends for the actual bday celebrations and there was plenty of room to spread around. Plenty of things to keep everyone entertained! Our local friends who came, and even other friends who viewed our pictures on social media, asked for rental info. Well stocked, beautifully designed and decorated home! Great customer service from Rhett (owner) and Wendy (property manager)! Thank you for a wonderful weekend full of great memories!!
Every year my buddies and I do trip to watch the Miami Dolphins play an away game and this year Jacksonville was the destination of choice. Out of all the places we've stayed throughout the US for these trips, I can honestly say the Jax River House is at the top of the list! The owners equipped the house with all the basic essentials, the house was in great shape with plenty of rooms, beds and couches to accommodate all 10 of us and the pool/backyard area was fantastic! When the JaxFerry closes for the day it does take a little while to visit the Jacksonville Beach and downtown areas if you are looking to go out and bar hop, but no more than a 30-40 minute drive. Overall the owners have prepped this house to be a fantastic get away spot for a large group and do an excellent job of facilitating your arrival and departure. Thanks again guys!
Our impromptu trip to Jacksonville was AMAZING! Being University of Tennessee football fans, we decided to take our whole family to the Taxslayer Bowl on January 2 to watch them play....and they did not let us down! They commandingly won the game! We rented this amazing house and it was PERFECT! There were big screens in most rooms to watch lots of football bowl games, and an awesome kitchen that was well-stocked with plenty of tools for cooking...anything and everything we needed was there for us to use...a nice grill outdoors made perfect steaks, and the whole family enjoyed the foosball table! We waved to a big Carnival Cruise Ship as it passed our dock...we were all out on the dock, waving to the ship as it passed by...the children loved it! We all had a blast, and would LOVE to rent this house again!
We booked this home for a family get together post our son's wedding. It was ideal for family entertaining, the pool, table football and pool table were very popular with all ages. We loved the covered verandahs for family lunches and evening barbeques.
Downside was we had to drive a considerable distance to the shops and it could have been a bit isolated for families with teenagers who like to be independent.
It is opposite a naval base which had training helicopters flying around most days of our 2 week holiday which got a bit much.
