'Glen Eastern' has an awesome lake view and is about a mile from 'Downtown Watkins'. Home to the magnificent Watkins Glen State Park, Harbor Walk, International Raceway, visitor center, Clute Beach and a more than a few places to rent & launch boats. We are in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine & waterfall country. Glen Eastern has 4 BR & 3.5 baths. It sleeps 10-12 and is more of a family style home on 8 fun acres; the Monster Barn game room is now open offering billiards, foosball, darts, a 10ft granite saloon wet bar and classic arcade game. The deck offers panoramic views of the lake, sunsets & Watkins night lights. Enjoy the horseshoe and fire pits, multiple picnic tables, hammock and covered lower patio. The location is perfect for large family gatherings. There is also another apartment available in the barn with a full bath, kitchen, bedroom and living room for even larger parties of 12 - 14.
LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION: At about a mile from downtown Watkins Glen and twenty or so from Corning, Ithaca and Elmira, you will find plenty to do at our rental properties. There are well over fifty wineries within 40 miles - close to a hundred waterfalls - and day trips can take you to Niagara Falls, Casinos, ten other Finger Lakes and the Great Lakes. We have been coming here for close to ten years and still haven't seen it all.
ALL SEASONS WELCOME: The wineries don't shut down for the winter and neither do we! The spring brings great scenery and waterfalls, the summer has it all and the fall has leaves and wine to enjoy. But don't forget the winter and holiday season, when the Seneca wineries promote Deck the Halls and winter wine specials. Cayuga also has quite a few wineries with Mardi Gras, fine food pairings and individual winery promotions. Don't forget to bring your boat in the warmer months and your snowmobile & skis in the winter. The Finger Lakes National Forest has extensive winter snowmobiling trails as well as cross country and there are two ski areas about an hour away.
JUST LIKE HOME: We use all three of our vacation homes in the area and want you to feel like you are at your second home (just like we do). That's why we have people returning again and again, and trying out our various locations. Each is unique but well appointed and offer the same convenient location and amenities.
Please note: there is a $150 housekeeping charge for stays less than 6 nights.
Having visited many wine regions around the world (Rhine River Valley in Germany, Napa/Sonoma in US, Tuscany in Italy, and Hunter Valley in Austraila), we decided to explore the Finger Lake Wine region. We really enjoyed it due to its wonderful wines, beautiful views and amazing waterfalls. With a growing family, we decided to purchase our first property in 2006. In years following, we added two more properties and we continue to improve all of them so our expanded family and our guests (YOU!) can enjoy the Finger Lakes to its fullest potential. The Monster Bar'N Gameroom and Barn Apartment are two examples of how we continually improve our properties. We love to visit the wineries year round for their seasonal events and have camp fires & S'mores in the summertime and boating and hiking at the local Glens (Watkins, Buttermilk and Havana to name a few). One of our most favorite annual events is to participate in the Watkins Glen Cardboard Boat Regatta - check local papers for our 2010 Pirate Ship entry which made front page headlines (see image of Pirate Ship).

With a growing family, we knew it would be harder to travel like we were used too. With the Finger Lakes as close as they were and offering wineries, waterfalls and lakes, we decided it would be a wonderful place to vacation. After two years of enjoying our home ourselves, we decided to try renting to allow others to enjoy this wonderful property and region of the country. We found that we enjoyed it so much that we decided to continue to expand our properties to serve even more people. We feel our properties allow all our guests to select which type of property will work for them and their vacation plans.
The game room is loads of fun and the outdoor space is great too. Such convenience to Watkins Glen and several other Finger Lake hamlets & towns is a rare find on the wine trail.
Dear Tom and JJ,
We couldn't be happier about our vacation at Glen Eastern. The house was perfect. The kids were happy just playing in the yard. My mother loved sitting on the porch watching the birds and lake scenery- and we all enjoyed the many activities and things to do in the area. We did the wine trail and your convenient location allowed us to do most of them while we were there. We must come back to do the rest ;-).
Great place to stay. Many wineries nearby. What a beautiful location and the view of Lake Seneca. Watkins Glen only a mile or two away. Very convenient to town and shopping. Highly recommend.
Our stay at Glen Eastern was simply wonderful with the most beautiful view of Seneca Lake. The home was clean and we only had a few minor issues such as burnt out light bulbs that Tom addressed when we notified him. We would certainly stay here again and can't say enough about the beautiful view and convenient location to all that Watkins Glen has to offer. We did conserve water as suggested and had no real issues with this and there were 9 women. The one room had very small beds that were more youth size than we anticipated, but not a big problem for us. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans/dishes. The ice maker did not seem to work, but there was a fresh bag of ice, so again this was not a problem for our short stay.
Loved the wineries, Jeraldo's restaurant, and the gorge was breathtaking.
Listing was accurate. House was well stocked with games, cooking utensils, etc which made it good for our small family reunion. Monster Barn was not so monster since most of it is off limits, but it did have games and a pool table. It was nice to have the basement area, which is basically its own separate apartment for those who had small children. Gave them space to play in the early morning, and we could put them to sleep early without fear of others waking them up.
View was gorgeous and location was great -- easy access to down town, Watkins Glen State Park and to wineries. Other reviews noting traffic sounds are correct. We weren't bothered by it, but you definitely hear the cars and trucks go by when you are outside.
Our chief complaint was the management of the house -- little things like poor response time to inquiries, the fact that the propane was empty when we were told it would be full, the ice machine on the fridge was broken and once we discovered it we were told, "well, I guess you should just buy some ice." There was only 1 roll of toilet paper per bathroom and 1 roll of paper towels and when we asked where we could find additional we were told, "well, we start you off and then you provide the rest." IMHO, I shouldn't need to be purchasing toilet paper when I am paying for a 5 night vacation rental. So, nothing terrible, but it didn't enhance the experience (and it meant we were spending more time at the local Walmart than desired).
The view is spectacular, and the house is very comfortable. We did not expect to be provided with all the extras in the house. Things like towels, sheets, candles, dishes, etc. The location with regard to Watkins Glen was perfect. Our family was impressed by your home. Thanks again for making our stay so pleasant. The house's location is perfect and the view was spectacular. The house was spacious and well-maintained. The care taker came and welcomed us when we arrived. She even recommended some excellent restaurants in the area and directed us on the best route to Grist Iron, where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The owner was helpful and returned my messages promptly whenever I had a question.
My children and I rented the house and toured the local wineries. The barn provided hours of entertainment. Unfortunately, it was too cold to take advantage of the horseshoe pits.
We loved our stay and hope to return this summer.
The native peoples say that the Finger Lakes were created by their god placing his hand upon the earth. Today the Finger Lakes are home to some of the best NY State wineries, crystal clear lakes, waterfalls and all season activities. Almost all of the wineries and breweries are open year round. Watkins Glen offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants with a quaint downtown area and harbor walk. Follow the Catherine Creek trail all the way to Horse Heads and enjoy some of the best fly fishing on the planet. Take a power boat or sailing excursion on the deepest lake in the US - west of the Rockies. Head south to Corning for the famous Museum of Glass and enjoy the Market Street attractions, brew houses and gastro pubs. Then turn east and head to Ithaca for the day to enjoy all the college town has to offer. Niagara Falls and the Baseball Hall of Fame are both just a day trip away. Two ski areas, ample snowmobiling and hunting will keep you entertained during the winter months. Come to the Finger Lakes and see what the area has to offer - and enjoy one of the places we call home.
