Why Jack Miller chose Asheville Area

We chose this mountain location to build our cabin because of so many reasons! It has the amazing views, no highway noise, Verizon works, it doesn't get too much snow and it has easy access to I-40 to Asheville. We, together with our good friends the Morgan's, bought the top of our mountain ridge . We have over 27 acres between us with only our two homes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Candace and Jack,

I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to stay in your lovely cabin. Our time there was absolutely wonderful. Everything could not have been more perfect. Because I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I brought everything but the kitchen sink with me, but found to my delight that many of the things I brought were already supplied in your kitchen. Our first morning there my husband walked out the front door and I heard him exclaim, "Oh my goodness!" He was looking at the sunrise. OH! We woke up the whole household to see! We had never seen anything like it. Even thinking about it, I am still awestruck. We were so thankful for the cut wood and had a fire going most of the time we were there. All of the special touches around the house-the stained glass, the adding machine, the sewing machine cabinet with "stuff" in the drawers, the books, really, just everything-were so warm and welcoming. Just thank you, thank you, thank you for the vision to build (or buy or whatever) this property and then the kindness to share it with others. We will forever be blessed with beautiful memories of our time there. And, PS, I have told my friends about it and encouraged them to go there too.

With Great Gratitude,
Nov 2012

Excellent cabin for the full mountain experience

  • 5 of 5

We visited at the end of September and loved our stay. The location is a bit out of the way from Asheville; however, it was only about a 35-40 min drive. As other reviewers have stated, I wouldn't want to navigate the windy roads coming to the mountain or up the mountain at night. If your plan is to enjoy Asheville and surrounding areas during the day and then make a great meal at home at night, this is a PERFECT location! The view is spectacular for Sunrise from the front of the house and Sunset from the back deck. There is plenty of space. We were two adults, two teenagers and a tween and no one was ever on top of anyone else. The game room downstairs is great to occupy the kids. I will say that we didn't feel like there were any hiking spots around the house if you want to walk out your front door and go for a hike, but there was a beautiful waterfall that you could drive to within the mountain community. I definitely wouldn't walk to the waterfall as it would be a horrible walk back uphill and around dangerous curvy roads. This property had one of the best views I have ever seen in my time coming to the NC mountains and Asheville area. The view coupled with the great response from the owners when booking makes it a repeat trip for sure!

All appointed home. Perfect for families. The view is breathtaking!

We were glad to have a 4-wheel drive car as the drive up to the house had a very steel incline.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cabin. The drive within the Community gates and up the mountain to the cabin is exhilarating! Every possible amenity was provided for our stay. The views from the back porch are AWESOME!! We plan to be repeat customers and would highly recommend to anyone.

Absolute Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cabin with unbelievable views!!! A slice of Heaven on Earth! Pictures just don't do it justice. You have to experience it and see it in person. The cabin was well appointed and well equipped. We met our friends there for a week's vacation to explore the Asheville and Western North Carolina area. We couldn't have made a better choice of place to stay. The drive up the mountain to the cabin was a bit daunting at first but after a time or two you get the hang of it. The communication and information from the owners is top notch along with great directions to the cabin and information regarding recommendations for grocery shopping, restaurants, activities, and things to do in the area. Just can't say enough about this cabin and we all decided that we will be back again. Thank you Candace & Jack for sharing your beautiful mountain home! We had a wonderful time. In fact, we miss it already!

View, house, and communications all A++!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a breathtaking place to unwind and relax while in the Asheville area, this cabin is a great choice. Mountain Laurel Lookout offers a literal mountain-top experience! The view of the mountain vistas is stunning from throughout the well-appointed home. Mornings and sunsets on the deck are to be savored, but even in bad weather (we had a day of torrential rains), this home is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the peace and serenity of the location. Our family of four, including 2 young adults, enjoyed having the game room in the evenings and on our rain day - lots of fun playing ping pong, foosball, and pop-a-shot. There is also a lovely loft nook for reading and napping while enjoying the stunning views (with plenty of books to choose from), and a game closet with a variety of games and puzzle.

Candace and Jack provided us with all the information we needed, including numerous suggestions on things to do and places to eat. Their communications with us were extremely prompt and they are more than willing to answer any questions you have. The cabin itself was clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds, more than enough bathrooms, and a nice kitchen.

One caveat - the location on top of a mountain ridge is extraordinary, but the flip side is that it is not efficient to come and go throughout the day. You will want to plan for your daily trip "down the mountain". And if your vacation desire is to have dinner and drinks in Asheville, be forewarned that driving up the very narrow, very steep mountain roads in the dark is a dicey proposition for first-time visitors. We found it best to eat our bigger meal out at lunchtime, and then have drinks at sunset on the deck (fabulous!!) and prepare a light dinner in the cabin. While there are large grocery stores not too far down the highway, we found the superette in Old Fort (Frisbees, at the bottom of the mountain) to be a convenient place to stop on the way back home for any staples needed for dinner or breakfast the next day.

All in all - highly recommend!!
