The location is good and the complex is clean and seems safe. Neighbors were friendly and helpful. The property is dated and the beds were very uncomfortable and small. Not really well equipped for sleeping 6 unless 2-3 are small children. Pillows in dire need of replacement.
The Polynesian Cultural Center was fantastic!
Where do I begin? This was the worst condo we've ever stayed in. Did it have everything we needed? Yes. Was everything old, outdated, & looked very used. Yes. Nothing in the condo matched. All decor looked picked up from various yard sales over the past 30 years & just hung on the walls (without the dust being taken off of them). The beds weren't comfy, the carpet felt gross under our feet, there were little specks of mold on the downstairs shower curtain, & the lighting in the bedrooms & upstairs bathroom was really bad (there was one small lamp in the main bedroom which gave almost no light). For the price I wasn't expecting anything fabulous. But, this place needs a major renovation (not done by amateurs like the fix above the shower downstairs).
Wow I just heard from other guests how pleased they were with the place. This review said the condo had everything they needed but they didnt like the decor. I would please to stay in condo. The decor is exactly what shows on the website listings. Not sure why they thought it would be different.
Condo not quite as advertised
We appreciated that the condo was quiet, neighbors were respectful. Our one issue, which I read in other reviews as well, was that the unit was warm.. like, all the time. We were there in late fall and the weather was still quite warm/hot. We arrived at the condo mid-afternoon and a few windows were open but it had to be 85 degrees inside. Owner encourages you to NOT use the A/C and open the windows and doors for the breeze but we could not do it even with fans running constantly. Honestly, there was NO breeze. Windows and doors on either end of the unit are both blocked by huge trees. The two window units (one upstairs and one down) were very inadequate to cool the whole unit. Sleeping was ok but the A/C was not nearly sufficient to cool the kitchen and living area. especially in the heat of the day. And using the washer & dryer adds to the heat as well. We did cook some in the kitchen but it added to the heat so we opted not to. The condo has some repair issues and could use some updating.
We did have an issue with someone parking in our assigned space and I was hesitant to park in another spot as I was warned I would be towed. Security was not very helpful and I had to call them several days in a row to be issued a "visitor" pass so I could park without being towed. This was extremely frustrating.
The condo was comfortable otherwise. The kitchen is a good size for meal prepping with adequate pots/pans/dishes. Living area is comfy too; plenty of room for two or a small family. Also, this is a second floor unit which wasn't disclosed when I made the reservation. Not a big deal for us but might be for some. Location is good if you like to be away from town activity. Be aware that restaurants are limited on this end of the island so be prepared to drive a bit if you're wanting a variety. Grocery stores are limited as well so if you're out and about and find a major store it's best to stop while you can.
I would not rent this condo again just because of the lack of adequate cooling. That was a major sticking point for us.
Enjoyed our stay
Turtle Bay is perfect for a relaxing getaway!
I feel like sometimes people don't really read the listing and compare to other listings. For the price, this is a really great condo. other condo listings in this same area are cheaper, but they are smaller, sleep less people, have only one bathroom, etc. Other listings with 2 bath and sleep at least 7 are a bit more than this one. It did get a little crowded sleeping 7, but it worked out fine. I did not care that the towels were "mismatched"....they are TOWELS. The place was clean and had everything that we needed to get started. Plenty of dishes, silverware, pots and pans, etc. Wifi was great as i brought our firestick so the kids could watch some netflix while going to bed and streaming was no problem. We came to Hawaii to do things everyday and experience as much of the island as we could, not to stay in the room all day. Looking for a nice place to stay for a big family and not break the bank? This place was great! Checking in was a bit of a snafu and i was irritated, but only because after a 6 hr flight, shuttle to rental car, stop at costco for essentials, over an hour drive all with 4 kids who were beyond bored, the last thing i wanted was to sit at the gate and be told to call security to let me in. They tell you the renter needs to let us in and did not help. When you get there, just have someone go to the condo and get the grey key fob, then come back to the gate to open it. FYI...that same grey key fob is for pool access. Thank you Patricia :)
North Shore adventures can include a drive to the quaint town of Halewa for some shopping and one of Masumotos' famous Shaved ice cones and on the way you can stop at the Waimea Valley Audibon Center and walk back to a great waterfall that you can swim in (picture of waterfall included). Or from the condo you can walk to secluded beaches, look for turtles, or sea shells.
Or, Surf-is-up -- you can sip a cool drink at the resort and watch surfers glide by as you relax in a lawn chair and if you are hungry, you can order a meal or a snack. Or go to the other side of the hotel where there is a protected bay for easy swimming.
There are 6 restaurants and bars available --
And, on the grounds of the Turtle Bay Resort, you can play golf (guests receive a discount), go horsebacking riding, journey down bike and walking paths paralleling the beach, walk on reefs and walk on paths throughout the golf course that pass by beautiful natural ponds, with cattails and local birdlife.
Just down the road is Polynesian Culture Center where South Pacific dance and polynesian village life are available for your pleasure.
Also, there is whale watching or fishing -- or swim with the turtles
For the adventurous, you can take helicopter tours or go skydiving or take a glider tour from North Shore's Dillingham Airfield.
Or a spa day at Spa Luana at Turtle Bay Resort!
And the above possibilities does not even include what fun you can find with a drive into town -- a thriving China Town; Iolani Palace; and don't miss Bishop Museum; Water World; Ala Moana Shopping center -- just to mention a few.
The days and nights are yours to enjoy -- listed are only a very few of the potential joys that can be yours.
