This cedar shake cottage is located in the Historic District of Old Frontenac. You can’t help but relax as you enter this historic village that remains as cozy and quaint today as it was 150 years ago. Walk or bike through this beautiful setting and you will enjoy scenic views of Lake Pepin, historic homes and park like yards. The cottage itself features hardwood floors, custom maple trim work and a floor to ceiling field stone fireplace. It has found the perfect balance of modern convenience nestled against a historic back drop.
We have been in the rental business for five years and enjoy sharing this beautiful area with others.
Chuck Rusch purchased this cottage in 1989
Both my wife and I grew up in south eastern Minnesota and where very familiar with the area. When the time was right to purchase a vacation property we only looked in one area. The cottage is located in the Historic District of Old Frontenac. Nestled amongst the river bluffs you can’t help but relax as you enter this historic village that remains as cozy and quaint today as it was 150 years ago. Walk or bike through this beautiful setting and you will enjoy scenic views of Lake Pepin, historic homes and park like yards.
This well-stocked cottage is a real gem!
Our family of 6 adults decided to gather here for a weekend-long Christmas celebration. We found the clean, comfortable space perfect for relaxing, reading, preparing all our meals, sitting by the fire, playing games, etc.
Chuck was easy to work with and quick to answer questions and make recommendations leading up to our stay.
As for area attractions, we'd highly recommend a trip to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha...
This cozy cottage was absolutely perfect for a weekend away during the winter! Even after a snowstorm, the owners made every effort to ensure we were going to be comfortable! This was the perfect amount of space for 5 adults with plenty of room to relax! The home was impeccable and every inch was extremely clean! The updates to the home were beautiful and it truly felt homey from the minute we walked in! The kitchen and bathrooms had every piece of equipment and supplies necessary for being at ease. The beds were all very clean and comfortable...we all slept so well! The surrounding area looked like Narnia in the snow and was perfect for little walking excursions! The hosts communicated everything perfectly and we had such a lovely time! I would definitely recommend this home to anyone! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
Cottage lived up to it's description and then some. We three long time friends found it to be spacious and cozy at the same time, modern and quaint, very nicely decorated, well equipped, very clean and in a great park like setting. The kitchen is bright and airy, sun room was great for morning coffee, deck and fire pit looked nice but due to weather and mosquitoes we settled for fire in beautiful stone fireplace. Much attention has been paid to making the most of the space while providing all the comforts of home. Bathrooms were well stocked, modern and roomy with plenty of hot "shower power".
The surrounding area is great for exploring, every small town had something going on to enjoy. We wished we had planned an extra day or two, but it was a great get away for relaxing and catching up. We had breakfast at at Wild Chickadee in Lake City and ended our day back there at Nosh for dinner. Both excellent!
Chuck was very easy to work with, provided directions to cottage, which is off the beaten path, and "fact sheet" for using facilities. We experienced a little trouble with door key lock but resolved that quickly. The only suggestion we would make is to provide a fire extinguisher and we did not see a smoke alarm.Otherwise we would highly recommend and would return!
The cottage worked perfect for our group. Plenty of space and amenities. The grill worked great and there is plenty of space for yard games. Also there is a nice firepit. The cottage is 10 to 15 min from multiple nice golf courses in both lake city and red wing. Additionally it is close to both the Welch and Zumbro falls tubing/canoeing rivers as well as lake Pepin. The cottage was clean and the beds were comfortable. No complaints.
We had a fantastic time in Frontenac! The cottage and was welcoming, comfy and well stocked with thoughtful amenities. Loved the artwork and homey touches. The area is beautiful, historic and scenic in every direction. Perfect in every way. Spent time with friends I see rarely and every one of us was thrilled and wants to go back. Would recommend!! What a great place for a girls-get-away! Wonderfully appointed, clean, couldn't need a thing! We dined in Lake City @ Port 104, Nosh's, and enjoyed the family style brunch ( "all you can eat") on Sunday at The Chickadee Cottage Cafe.
Redwing ... Veranda, Oliver's and of course visited the famous bakery there.
Crossed to WI for more shopping and scenes ... Maiden Rock, Stockholm, Pepin ... lovely people and unique artisans. (Another good bakery in Maiden Rock!)
Beautiful Winery in Pepin ... The weather was hot ( AC worked! ) and stormy ...
but it didn't rain on our annual gathering and we'd do it again for sure!
We had a great time here. Thankful that we had the cottage as the weather was initially inclement. We were quite surprised with how quiet it was this past weekend as testament to the "off the beaten track" that is Frontenac. The cottage slept the 7 of us with room to spare. Grill worked great to cook outside and the patio furniture was a welcome option once the weather cleared. The dining table was cozy but adequate. Nice to have wifi and a television when the game playing slowed down. Family all came away wishing our time was not at an end. Thanks to the owners for making this a great place to stay!
