Old country villa set on a beautiful hill in Tuscany just 18 km from Florence. The property is surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and oak trees, and cypress trees. The house is incredibly spacious and has been very nicely renovated. The rooms have been comfortably finished but maintain a traditional Italian atmosphere ‘in tune’ with their surroundings. The house has six nicely appointed bedrooms (one of which is a passage room) and three bathrooms. The property benefits from total peace and quiet in that the road stops at the villa and beyond that of the caretaker's house, which is 20metres away, there is only another apartment (property ITF646) in an annexe which is attached to the villa on one side but which has its own access road and own garden.Distances: 8 km Rignano (various shops), 10 km Pontassieve, 13 km Reggello (famous fashion outlet), Firenze 18 km. Arrival only between 5 pm - 8 pm. Departure no later than 9 am. Please be aware: Part of the access road (approx. 100 m) not asphalted and not suitable for low or sport cars. A house with character, but not well prepared
The house looks impressive (even slightly mysterious or spooky), and when you step inside is like travelling to the past. The house has a large yard with impressive views over the surrounding valleys and is surrounded by olive orchards and vineyards. Typically, the area is very quiet, however in about half of our one-week stay there were shootings by hunters in the area, even near the house. In a few days we were woken up by the shootings, and one day when we wanted to walk around the area we had to back up due to security concerns when we got surrounded by hunters.
Despite its charm, the house is not thoroughly prepared for tourists. The GPS coordinates shown on this website and indicated by the property manager are wrong. So you are bound to get lost if you use the GPS, and instead you have to use the text directions which are also confusing. Unfortunately this site's review guidelines prevent me to post here the actual location.
The house was not properly cleaned up when we arrived, even though there seemed to have been a few days since the previous tourists have left. There were things like spider webs under wardrobes, slightly dirty toilets, a molded shower curtain. On some beds, new mattresses were put over decades-old bedding, leading to uncomfortable sleeping. In one room, there was a persistent, strong smell of naphthalene. The worst thing was that on the wooden pedestal of an ancient mirror in one of the bedrooms (also shown in the pictures on this website) we found some mercury in the day before the last of our stay, as probably spilled from a broken thermometer some time ago, maybe years ago. The mercury evaporates leading to toxic gas, so we, including the kid, were unknowingly exposed to these toxic vapors of mercury.
When we arrived, the villa was missing some basic stuff like soap in the bathrooms, spare bags for thrash, matches or a proper lighter for lighting the gas cooktop. We left such stuff after our stay, and I suppose that other tourists would also do so. The kitchen was generally well equipped, but was lacking a microwave oven. Some light bulbs were out of order; some electric plugs were hanging out of the wall. There were not enough blankets, even though in October the temperature inside was as low as 18 degrees in the rooms on one side of the house.
