About the property

Your own island! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from the capital city of Augusta you are close to restaurants and shopping but in a setting that is private and close to nature.

Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing.

Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping (not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove, refrigerator and solar campers shower. Many refer to it as "glamping", glamorous camping.

This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated

Peaceful, romantic, and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay, and have been here multiple times. The owner is lovely, and the property well maintained. For us, it's a plus not to have electricity or running water for the stay....to disconnect with the outside and just connect with each other. We bring our kayaks and paddle the lake, watch the birds, and the enjoy the serenity. The only slight hitch this time, as we stayed late September/early October, was being awakened at 6am by the close gunfire of hunters. Just didn't know to expect that! It wasn't dangerous, and didn't last too long throughout the morning, although the hunting occurred on multiple days. Still, we will be back next year, probably a bit earlier in the season.

magical and tranquil

  • 5 of 5

We spent a magical early August weekend on tiny Little Diamond. Deborah's cottage is charming – comfortable, clean and cozy, but still a camp-like experience without electricity and running water. She had plenty of water, propane, and supplies on hand. We totally unplugged and relaxed, and canoed the huge lake. Thanks Deb!

Mandatory

  • 5 of 5

When it comes to planning a vacation I think the biggest decision is where to go as our options are plentiful. We discussed ours and decided we have never seen the Northeast region and we both love lobster so what better place to visit than Maine. I used HomeAway for the first time last year and had a great experience so I began to look for rentals. I ran across this rental and it sounded like everything we were looking for and based on the reviews I booked it. I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said except for it should be mandatory for everyone to visit this little island. Our first day was raining but the clouds broke in the evening and gave way to the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen! This vacation was relaxing, beautiful and will never be forgotten.

Perfect place to stay and enjoy Maine

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in October to celebrate our anniversary. It was the perfect retreat. So peaceful to wake up surround by water and sun listening to the call of loons. I recommend this to everyone who wants to relax and drink in the sights of a beautiful lake with close access to small town charm. The renter left such good recommendations for other things to do in the area that we were never bored or in need of anything. Great stay!

Little Diamond Island Shines

  • 5 of 5

My teenage girls and I thoroughly enjoyed our island paradise. The lake views are beautiful; especially the sunsets. Our close Osprey neighbors begun our nature tour that was highlighted with perched eagle taking flight as we paddled near. The cottage was clean and cozy, with an inviting lake breeze throughout the day.

The girls and I agree to make sure we return to this hidden jewel.

Water View Wonder!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on Little Diamond Island! It's such a peaceful, relaxing place, and the bird life is a treat to watch.

The cabin is equipped with everything you will need to have a comfortable stay, and with water views from every window, you'll never want to leave!
