This comfortable, peaceful house offers:

A modern eat-in kitchen, a stylish living room, a wood-burning stove, a reading room, playroom, and audiovisual library. For children, there are toys, a playground next to the house, swings, a climbing tower, and a climbing wall available. It is an ideal place for hikes on the national Weg-der-Schweiz trail (with restaurant) and for taking the Gotthard railroad. Clean and free bathing beach, Isleten- Vierwaldstättersee. There are many idyllic spots in the woods and along brooks, as well as a free pitch for practicing sports and playing tennis.

Mountain village Isenthal was granted the national SAB-Berg Innovation Prize. The valley is located in natural arena Urschweiz, home of cultural route ViaUrschweiz and attractive sports and leisure activities, such as panoramic hikes, the Urirotstock educational nature circuit, the Bärenweg (Bear's Trail), and a farm zoo. There is a large mountain and ski tour network; the village has six great cable cars. A cable car leads to the Gitschener panoramic nature trail with an inn and an alpine public house. Isenthal skiing area and the Uri-Rotstock-Arena (with the Biwaldalp and Musenalp) are nearby.

Within one hour driving, you can reach: Lucerne, Zürich, Gotthard, Titlis, or Lugano. Visit the Rütli, the Tell Museum, and the operating sites of freedom fighter Tell. Leisure, hiking, and bathing: the free Isleten bathing and surfing beach, the Isleten hiking trails and climbing park, romantic steamboat cruises on Lake Lucerne, adventurous rides over the Postauto Route, several cable cars to Gitschen or Gietisflue-Gitschen and Furgelen, as well as the indoor tennis centre in neighbouring Seedorf are very attractive excursion destinations. On the mountain, in the one-of-a-kind natural paradise of Gitschen, there is a superb alpine tavern offering exquisite cuisine.

Culture and events:

The holiday house is located in the heart of Switzerland, near the famous 'Rütli', the origin of the Swiss Confederacy. From the Isleten Harbour, you can - by steamboat - easily reach the Tellskapelle ("Tell's Chapel") and Tellsprung ("Tell's Leap") on the Tellsplatte ("Tell's Slab"). Our region is part of Kulturschweiz ("Cultural Switzerland”). Please, visit the website. Cultural highlights are the Tell Games, steamboat rides, and excursions with the favourable Tell Pass, or also the historical Bahnwanderweg hiking trail along the mythical Gotthard. In the year 2015, "200 years of host country" was celebrated. In 2016, the largest tunnel in the world (NEAT), which runs through Mount Gotthard and the Swiss Alps, was reopened. As a representative of sports and culture for the Canton of Uri (Josef Schuler), it will be my pleasure to show you more cultural and tourist highlights that the regions of Uri-Gotthard, Lucerne, and Switzerland have to offer. Isenthal - Innovative mountain village: Isenthal was awarded the Swiss Innovation Prize for Mountain-Area Development (SAB-Trophee). In 1996, the cultural village of Isenthal won the cantonal environmental award and in 2001, the Albert Köchlin Foundation's cultural prize. I am looking forward to telling you all about it!

About Martina and Josef Schuler-Bissig

I, Martina, and my 9 sisters grew up on a farm. I am a training officer and I take care of learners in a nursing home in Erstfeld. My husband is a representative for Culture and Youth in the canton of Uri. Marianne became a doctor in Lucerne, Roman is studying at the University of Bern, and Vera is in secondary school. It is our pleasure to tell you about the history of this valley and the people of the original mountain villages. We are looking forward to receiving guests from around the world.

Why Martina and Josef Schuler-Bissig chose Lake Lucerne

Already 70 years ago, our holiday house existed as the post office. My husband has been a teacher in the village for 20 years. He purchased this charming house and remodelled it with a feel for style. We live in the same house. We live in a village where others come to have their holidays. We are close to the mountains and the lovely lake, which has many leisure possibilities.

What makes this apartment unique

The special thing about the holiday house is its typical and central rural placement with a wood-burning stove/fireplace, as well as the wild garden with a large linden tree. We have very good relations with our lovely neighbours. You will love it!

Notes:
In the immediate surrounding (2 minutes walking), you will find a residential dining restaurant with regional specialities, a hotel with a cosy garden restaurant, a convenience store with fresh goods and pastries (fresh 'Gipfeli'), a catholic church, a bank, a post office, and the bus station. In just 20 minutes by car, you will reach the modern water park of Altdorf, a golf course, the Seedorf natural delta, the Minerals Museum and A Pro Seedorf castle, as well as the cantonal theatre, the arthouse in Uri, the historical museum in Altdorf (11 km away), and the Wilhelm Tell Museum in Bürglen. A washing machine is available for €1 per washing.

An excellent stay in an enchanting village

We didn't meet Martina, but Joseph and their daughter welcomed us. They were really friendly, and were available for any questions, as they stay in the upper floor. The house was really comfortable for six of us,and the baby in our group had some nice toys tò play with. The surroundings are really nice, with some awesome views of the mountains. There is a grocery shop, 2 restaurants a few steps from the house and a bus service that almost comes to the door. :)....There is also safe parking available nearby the house. Only difficulty is to go anywhere, you will have to drive down the mountain , and the road is not very wide. But there was not much traffic through the road, while i stayed. Will surely recommend if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the mountains.

very happy

We stayed for one week, March 2017. It was warm, sunny days.

The apartment was comfortable, well equipped. We had coffee in the yard, enjoying the sun. A lot of toys/games for kids. Also travel/tourist information were available in the apartment. Bedroom had good comfy large bed and large closet. Bunk bed was good for children. Two other rooms looking at the street and school across it. The kitchen is well equipped with eating in table. The cloth washing machine on ground floor comes handy.

Isenthal is small village, about 40 minutes from Lucerne, with 4km drive up the mountain with great views. We wanted to explore small Swiss village, and this was perfect. Across from apartment there is guest house that has good food breakfast, dinner, also nearby hotel, which we did not eat there. As others mentioned a mountain lift is nearby, and village has small store. We did enjoy every minute.

Everything was exceptional. Only wish we could of stayed longer

Our trip was amazing. The Holiday House was very clean, comfortable and centrally located. We only wish that we could of stayed longer. The people in Isenthal are very friendly and eager to please. Planning on coming back and renting the same place next year.

Excellent property on top of a mountain, amazing hosts

Martina and Josef were amazing hosts, very kind and helpful. The house is in a great location on top of a mountain. The drive to the top on day one was little challenging but we got used to it from day2. We took a 5 day Tell pass to explore the region and it was really worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Martina and Josef's place, would definitely recommend this property. Look forward to stay again at this lovely location.

We had a lovely holiday, the apartment was exactly as described,clean and tidy. The road up to the place was very windy which would have been good to know, but the views and the apartment more than made up for that. You definitely need a car, unless you are planning to stay at Isenthal .Lots of nice places to visit near by Luzerne, Brunnen and Schwyz to name a few. If you are willing to travel a bit further afield there are other lovely places. But you could just as easy stay near by and go hiking and there is a mountain you can go up on a cable car. We had a lovely meal at the top of the mountain. Martina and Joesf were very helpful and friendly.In the apartment there were plenty of leaflets for different places, could have done with a few more in English but we easily found some leaflets when out.

The people in the village were friendly.

Have been using Homelidays long before becoming HomeAway for our holidays in Europe.

Isenthal is one of the most beautiful location we ever been to.

The owner, Martina, is very nice, very helpful and the property is ideal for a family of four like ours or for even a larger one, up to 6 people can sleep in.

Everything you need for self catering , we found a LIDL shop about 7 km away for food.

Burt, for me, the best of the best was the road leading to the village, the last 5 km of it, single file road, uphill, with fantastic views over the lake and the mountain . If you go in winter like we did, winter tyres are a MUST!

We'd definitely like to go again, in summer time eventually .

We managed to drive 4 days to Andermatt and make use, using a family card, of the fantastic Glacier Express and of the local trains. In winter, the views are just magnificent .

Can not recommend strongly enough!

Isenthal is a tranquil village in the middle of central Switzerland, not far from Lucerne, Zürich, the Gotthard, and holiday destination, Andermatt. The village is located in the middle of a lovely mountainous landscape and hiking area, in the unique 'Uri-Gotthard-Andermat' nature arena. A mountain road leads directly to the famous Lake Lucerne beaches and to the national Weg der Schweiz hiking trail. Also in the area is Rütli, the birthplace of Switzerland with Wilhelm Tell. Very closeby as well is the historical Gotthard road with the Via Gottardo. Isenthal sits far away from the tourist bustle. The village is a starting point for hiking, and mountain and ski tours in the middle of nature. In the valley, you can visit the family-friendly Gitschen ski area and one of the purest swimming lakes for sailing, surfing, and swimming.

Isenthal is located in the heart of Switzerland. Within 20 minutes, you can reach the main town, Altdorf (with the Tell memorial and a Tell museum). The city of Lucerne is one hour away. You can visit Zurich or the southern, sunny Lugano, which is located in the Tessin canton.

Other activities:

Seedorf golf course, climbing facilities, surfing and bathing beach, Isleten, the water park in Altdorf, and ski, hiking, and mountain tours.

Golf:

Not far from this holiday home in Isenthal - from Lake Lucerne following the motorway towards Gotthard - in Andermatt, one of the most modern holiday destinations is being built along with a winter sports arena and an exclusive 18-hole golf course. The Egyptian, Samis Sawiris, is constructing this great holiday resort.

Skiing:

In Isenthal, Gitschen ski area offers a family-friendly and very affordable skiing area with a ski lift and a children's lift (please, visit their website). There are ski courses, an inexpensive ski kiosk and a very cosy mountain inn (please, visit their website). Those longing for a larger zone, can visit the large skiing areas of Andermatt (see the official Andermatt website) or Klewenalp (see the official Klewenalp website). On top of that, there are skiing areas in Bielbiel-Kinzigag and Eggbergen (please, see their official websites).
