Guestbook comments from the manager

We weren't sure if we wanted to stay at the busy Treasure Cay Resort or have a house to ourselves in a more peaceful setting. We're super happy we chose the private home (Abaco Eco Nest) for our vacation week!

We liked the security that the electric gate and private drive offered. Once we drove over the hill, we felt like we were living on our own private island. The grounds are nicely kept - lots of tropical trees and foliage surround the home, offering total privacy. We spent mornings on the wrap around porch sipping our coffee watching the sun come up over the bay while listening to birds in the trees. We watched sea turtles swim right by the dock! We snorkeled out to the little island in the bay several times. There were fish, lobsters, crabs and tons of starfish.

Since the house is only a 5 minute drive to Treasure Cay Beach and resort, we spent a few days exploring that beach. It's Gorgeous!!! The water is crystal clear turquoise and the sand is a fine white powder. Coco Beach Club is a fun place to sunbathe and swim. There are palm trees or umbrellas for shade, and the bar staff makes tasty tropical drinks!

The home provides a local cell phone for you to use, so we could book our reef snorkeling Adventure Day with Brendal's Dive Shop. A short drive to the ferry dock and we were on our way to an Amazing day. We saw sharks, rays, sea turtles, giant grouper, barracuda, tropical fish & a variety of gorgeous coral. We highly recommend this trip!

The house is very cozy - just like a beach house should be. The showers had nice water pressure. The beds were really comfortable - we slept like rocks. We liked having an outdoor shower to use after swimming in the bay (it even had hot water!). We also enjoyed the hot tub and the kayaks. We really couldn't have asked for a better vacation! There are so many fun day trips you can take. We relaxed on the private beach/waterfront area. I loved reading in the hammock on the porch. Don't forget to walk out to the dock at night to look at the stars. Being away from the resort lights, we could see the Milky Way and a sky full of stars. Very romantic!

Abaco Eco Nest

  • 5 of 5

This was a great vacation spot for our family. Frank was an excellent host and the accommodations were very comfortable. The home was clean, very well-maintained and a perfect spot for re-connecting as a family, relaxing, and truly getting away from it all. The location is a little isolated so a car is a necessity if you are going to head into the nearby community of Treasure Cay and explore beyond property limits. Renting a vehicle and driving around Abaco is not a problem, however, as the highways are very good and traffic is minimal. The beach at Treasure Cay is phenomenal as is the snorkeling at nearby reefs. The local grocery store is very good and has excellent fresh meat to enjoy on the BBQ!

Quiet, peaceful getaway!

  • 3 of 5

Overall, we found Abaco Eco Nest to be everything we expected with a couple of minor issues. The hosts were very attentive before we arrived, e-mailing us many helpful tips and ideas for things to do. When we arrived, the check-in was simple and the instructions were clear. The house is located in a beautiful, peaceful, quiet setting. It was well-stocked, with everything we could need. When we had minor problems during our stay, the property manager was very helpful at aiding us in finding solutions.

We cannot give it 5 stars, however, due to the bed situation and the need for maintenance. It was advertised as sleeping up to 6 people. There were 3 of us, each needing a separate bed. One bedroom is advertised as having a bed and a futon. The futon is absolutely unusable as a bed. Our friend was forced to sleep on it, and it is so lumpy, it left her with a sore back and many nights of poor sleep. The other bed was usable after we removed the memory foam pad that was on top of the mattress. On the other hand, the master bedroom is quite comfortable, with a nice, firm bed.

Regarding maintenance, the house is old, and is in adequate condition, but it is obvious that the maintenance is falling behind. Numerous electrical outlets did not work, the plumbing in the master bedroom is corroded and almost impossible to turn on and off without risk of breaking the fixtures and the screen door on the patio will not slide, so it cannot be used to go in and out of the living room. The house is currently fine, but is beginning to show its age and needs some TLC.

Overall, we would recommend it, and would stay here again.

Very relaxing and private!

  • 4 of 5

The home met our overall expectations. It was clean, quiet, secluded and safe. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the porch in the mornings and evenings. Hot tub worked great. The power went out on the island multiple times during our week visit. The first night the house stayed relatively cool and comfortable. The second night it was stuffy and became frustrating. Given what I learned about the frequency of outages on the island, I felt like the owner should have had the generator hooked up and ready for our use. (One was there, but did not have a battery or gas to start and run it). In the end, it was all fine, but I would have been upset if our groceries had ruined. Overall, we enjoyed the Eco Nest and Abaco. If you are looking for a quiet, calm vacation this is the place. If you are looking for a party scene or great food, I would look elsewhere. The food costs were very high on the island. Bonefishing was great!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, Caren. I read in the newspaper about the outages on the island that week - which are a rare occurrence. I'm sorry that happened during your stay! I'm happy you found the private beach relaxing, and enjoyed the wraparound porch, hot tub and the fishing opportunities at Abaco Eco Nest. In spite of the inconvenience, I hope you'll consider another stay at my beachfront home. Thank you, F. B. DeLage

The best hideaway on Abaco

  • 5 of 5

We had a most wonderful vacation at Frank's Eco Nest. The house itself was very clean and comfortable. The main living/kitchen space has amazing open views over the sea. The beds were very comfortable and the screened windows and ceiling fans enough to keep it nice and cool, never once did we need to turn on any aircon. The kitchen is well equipped, I love cooking when I have time for it, so we ate in every night, Kirk's conch salad and Creative Hands' pies were delicious local takeaways. Supermarket in Treasure Cay supplies the basics and Marsh Harbour's markets have everything you need. Exploring the area by kayak was fabulous, loads of turtles, some sting rays, lots of other fish and birds. The public beach part of the Treasure Cay beach was our favourite, nobody else there and large wooden cabanas for shade and keeping your stuff off the sand. It was always so pleasant to return to the quiet peacefulnes of Eco Nest after a day of exploration, whether it was by car or boat. My favourite days were the ones when we just stayed put, relaxing, reading, relaxing, swimming, relaxing. Frank was easy to communicate with and Barbara and Matthew, locals who look after the place for him, very helpful and friendly, they even provided their daughter as a playmate for our daughter. I very much hope that we can return sometime.

A perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed spending 10 days at Abaco EcoNest. It was about 25 minutes from Marsh Harbor and 10 from Treasure Cay. Secluded, quiet, with all the water toys and a private sandy beach. Kitchen was well equipped and the property managers were very helpful and informative.

Simple, secluded, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This is a very quiet location with all of the basics. We loved using the sunfish and kayaks. The area in front of the house is a marine nursery filled with small sea turtles and other marine life - absolutely wonderful to watch from a kayak! The water depth is fairly shallow, so not great for swimming. Owner was great to work with - very friendly and informative over the phone. Caretakers, Barbara and Mathew, were wonderful. They even helped us out when our rental car got a flat tire.

Abaco Eco Nest has its own small private beach, dock and hot tub overlooking the water. Nearby Treasure Cay, a resort community located just 1/2 mile by water, or 3 miles by road from Abaco Eco Nest, is one of the World's Top Ten Beaches according to National Geographic. The Island of Great Abaco and the surrounding Cays are often referred to as the 'Family Islands' due to their laid back/friendly/safe lifestyle. You can easily explore the surrounding cays of Green Turtle (our favorite), Great Guana, Man-O-War, or Hope Town with its famous lighthouse and quaint "gingerbread cottage" architecture. There's also Marsh Harbour and Little Harbour. for fun day trips. There is just too much to see and do in one visit, so you'll have to keep coming back again and again. Find out why Abaco is a favorite destination!
