About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Spotted Grouper is a delightful Old Florida beach bungalow surrounded by twisted Sand Live Oaks. We are located on Bald Point near Panacea, Florida in a small, quiet beach neighborhood along the Forgotten Coast, surrounded by Bald Point State Park.

The house is 100 yards from the Gulf- to get there just walk down Grouper Street to the water, or use the boardwalk behind the house - there are no streets to cross. The fishing is fantastic, as are the local restaurants and seafood markets.

We are located 45 miles south of Tallahassee, 340 miles due south of Atlanta. The Spotted Grouper sleeps 4 with 1 queen bed and 1 double bed. Sheets and towels are provided.

Note that the Spotted Grouper is 'self-cleaning', ie our guests clean the house themselves on departure. All supplies are provided, as is a cleaning checklist.

Recent updates: Pine floors, new carpet, internet.

Very relaxing time at this adorable beach bungalow. Your family very clearly loves this house :)

Every room you walk into and everywhere you look you'll find something adorably beach or "Grouper" related :). The house is warm and welcoming and has everything you'll need for your stay! Beds are so comfortable you might just want to sleep in....but don't!! Wake up and open the blinds in the living room and you will see the sun rising over the ocean through the huge picture window. Or better yet, grab a cup of coffee and walk down Grouper Street and take it all in. You'll be glad you did! Thank you Whitworths for sharing your home!!

I absolutely love the spotted grouper. It is my favorite vacation destination.

If you are looking for peace, and quiet, and a comfortable Bungalow close to the beach, the spotted grouper is the perfect getaway spot. The house is kept very clean, and has a very warm feel to it. I love the living beach, and the easy to wade in water. I highly recommend staying at the Grouper.

Lovely peaceful forgotten coast

  • 3 of 5

Weather was surprisingly warm during our Feb 2017 visit. Neighbor Ben was friendly & helpful. Folks we met in Panacea & Crawfordville were friendly & informative. We enjoyed fishing, hiking, & exploring areas of St Mark's Wildlife Refuge. Revisited favorite areas in Apalachicola, Carrabelle, & St George Island. Enjoyed eating out & cooking many forms of fresh seafood. A quiet peaceful area.

3 star rating is because we found the cottage to feel dark & be less modern than we would generally prefer. I did my best at self cleaning the cottage, but felt it could use a thorough cleaning.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your month's stay in our area! There truly are many wonderful adventures available...and our neighbors are the best! You are correct regarding the lighting in our little cottage. We have purposely chosen to rely on soft ambient lighting throughout (40w incandescent bulbs, and do not allow any florescent bulbs); we carefully selected darker colors for the bedroom walls (especially for our guests who like to nap or sleep late on their vacations); and the SG is surrounded by 200+ yo oaks that offer a shady respite from the sun. It it our hope that these attributes will provide a gentle and welcoming old-Florida charm that is not easily duplicated. We do try to make sure that our published photographs accurately convey what our guests should expect. The Spotted Grouper is a grandfathered-in, ground-level concrete block house that is well past her 50th birthday. She does have a few wrinkles and bumps that make cleaning beach sand a challenge. Thank you for taking the time to clean her so well!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house is super comfy and has just about everything you would want or need for a vacation. Fairly secluded and a true get-a-way! If the windows are open you can hear the waves. I would definitely go back.

Owner's Response: And we do hope you come back! Yes, if the windows are open you can hear the waves...it's really that quiet and the water is really that close. We knowthat we are prejudiced, but we think it's one of the great spots on the planet!!

Best stay ever!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our month long visit to the Spotted Grouper! It was exactly as described. The Grouper was very clean and well maintained. When the washing machine quit working, the problem was addressed immediately. Everything is on one level and the owners have made this beach cottage so welcoming. It sleeps four comfortably and the kitchen is well appointed for preparing meals while staying there. We loved the short walk to the beach and enjoyed watching the sunrise. We also loved seeing a bald eagle, many other shore birds as well as the dolphins. The shelling was good, too!

Owner's Response: Thanks, B! And thank for your patience with the washing machine...Joel really does make repairs a priority. It was so very nice to meet you and to be hosted in our own cottage! Truly a treat to remember. Glad your kiddos are moving closer to you...but sad that you won't have that reason to return to our area. All the best!
