About RC

I am a Dad with 3 children. I have been going up to the cabin since 1967, and my kids have been going up since they were newborns.

RC purchased this cabin in 1965

Why RC chose Minnesota

I purchase the cabin from my two aunts, my uncle and my father when they inherited it from my grandmother after her death. I have been going up there since 1967.

What makes this cabin unique

Very close to the lake. No highway noise. Very private location. Cabin rates high on character and charm. Cabin is a great place to escape from city life and read, talk, sleep, walk, hike, play games, etc.

Blast from the Past

Beautiful, spacious yet cozy cabin with its original Seventies vibe. Loved the view and enormous fireplace. We came in the winter and there were just a few difficulties that could have been avoided with better communication by the owner. In off season, it would be great to have the pathway to the cabin clearly marked. You literally must flounder down a steep snowy hill, gear in tow, through the woods to reach the property. Kinda neat but you must be fit to do it. Especially when clambering back up the hill upon departure! The only other problem was that the owner had installed a new heating system with no instructions. We were so cold the first 2 hours that we considered going to a hotel. But as soon as we were able to connect with the owner, all was explained and we were toasty warm for the rest of our stay. All in all, would gladly go back, especially when the kinks get worked out.

Wonderfully Cozy, Comfortable, and Peaceful Cabin

We arrived in the evening and when we woke up we were amazed at the beautiful view of the lake right out the back window. The cabin was surprisingly spacious but quaint and cozy at the same time. We loved sitting around the fireplace playing games and drinking tea/hot chocolate/coffee. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking simple meals and it's so close to Lutsen and Grand Marais that we could grab a meal or groceries easily. Can't wait to go back in the summer!

quintessential north shore cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is rustic in all the best ways and also luxurious in all the best ways. It's next to other houses but feels quite private, and it and everything in it is beautifully made and thoughtfully placed. Good amenities from kitchen supplies to heat and firewood, and it has features — like the grand fireplace and even grander water view — that really make it special. We had a wonderful time watching the waves, playing games next to the fire, and exploring all of the nearby state parks and the town of Grand Marais. It's the quintessential north shore cabin.

I love this cabin

It was the third time we went to Rick's cabin and we have loved it everytime, inside and out. Beautiful location right by the shore of Lake Superior, private. Although the cabin is small, it has a spacious family room with a big fireplace and extra space for sitting and staring at the lake. It's perfect for our family of four, the first time we went there the kids were 6 and 8. The cabin is about 15 min drive to the ski resort. A wonderful place to relax and have quality family time.

Great Old Northern MN Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin reminded me of my family's old Northern Minnesota cabin and was very much what I wanted to show my kid....a taste of what it was like when I was younger. It is a classic cabin with an amazing location on the lakeshore and the views and experience were top notch. The cabin was well maintained and accurate to the website description. The check-in procedure and response from the owner were as advertised and helpful. I would recommend this cabin to others and consider staying there again.

Beautiful Quick December get away

We had a wonderful time up at the cabin this time around. It's absolutely awesome to be here in the winter. Very cozy. The cabin itself was clean and cozy as usual. Do not attempt to drive down to the cabin in the winter unless you have good 4 wheel drive!! Park above the cabin and use the stairs down.
