About the property

3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 8

Our lake home looks onto beautiful and clean Newfound Lake. The private shared access beach is 300 yards away (it is a bit rocky at the water entrance, so water shoes are suggested). Wellington State Park and beach is 1/4 mile away, with a free public boat launch. The house sits on a private lot and the large deck has water views. Off-street parking for 4 cars. New insulation and siding in fall 2011. The house has pergo flooring throughout the first floor, modern full size appliances and a gas cooking stove. Many recent furniture upgrades too! The living area is open and spacious as are the bedrooms. The master bedroom on the first floor has a queen bed and a washer and dryer. The second bedroom has a queen bed and the third bedroom has a double and two twin beds. Hiking and snowmobile trails are within walking distance. Walk to Newfound Winery for free tasting (open May to Oct.). Ice fishing and skating on the lake as well! Restaurants and stores nearby. Beautiful area, lots to do any time of year!

Summer: Swim in one of the cleanest lakes in the world and the deepest in New Hampshire. Bring your canoe, motor boat or sailboat and enjoy Newfound Lake which is 2 miles wide and 7 miles long. Plenty of other things to do locally - hike, bike, view falls, nature reserves etc.

Winter: Ski/Snowboard at Ragged Mountain - 20 minutes away or Tenney Mountain - 15 minutes away. Waterville Valley, Loon or Sunapee are 45 minutes away. Snowmobile trails nearby. Snowshoe, ice fish or ice skate too!

Fall: Take in the beautiful scenery around the lake. Nearby hike provides spectacular views! Nice scenic drives to take in all the foliage. If you've never visited NH this time of year, you won't be disappointed with the array of colors!

About Heather or Jay McGaffigan

Heather grew up in nearby Plymouth, NH and spent a lot of time at Newfound Lake as a child. Jay is from Massachusetts, but vacationed in the New Hampshire lakes region with his family every summer. We both love the area and wanted to purchase a property where we could share the beautiful area with our two daughters and extended family.

Heather or Jay McGaffigan purchased this chalet in 2008

Why Heather or Jay McGaffigan chose New Hampshire

We toured several other houses for sale around Newfound and fell in love with the open spaciousness of this chalet. We knew it would be a great house to entertain friends and family, as well as a great rental property. We liked the location near Wellington State Park and hiking trails and the closeness of the shared beach.

What makes this chalet unique

The house is fairly private and you do not hear the neighbors. The yard is big enough for our girls and friends to run around. There is ample parking for 4 cars in the driveway. The large deck is a great place to hang out and dine on in the summer months. The interior has modern appliances, countertops and flooring, which bring warmth to the house.

Spacious Rental at the Lake

  • 4 of 5

We were celebrating a Plymouth State Univ. graduate and wanted to get a unique, local property for the weekend. This house was very comfortable for our multi-generational family/group looking to spend some time together (yet all have our own room). It has everything you need in the kitchen, a well-stocked game cabinet, and a spacious living room to hang. We're from NH but never had the opportunity to visit Newfound Lake and this was the perfect introduction. Thank you to our hosts!

Cozy Getaway on Newfound Lake

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The house is very comfortable and the beach is just a minute walk from the front door. Though you couldn't see much of the lake from the deck, it was still a comfortable space to relax after a day of hiking. Near to the White Mountains and many other hiking trails and outdoor activities. The whole house was very clean and had everything we needed.

Not as great as we hoped

  • 3 of 5

The house was mostly as described, although you never really know how it will be until you arrive. The upstairs bedrooms were less than ideal, as one had no door to close for privacy or to keep out noise. They were also quite hot (we were there for a summer vacation) and only one of the three windows was able to open. There was also a lot of road noise in this room.

In general, we were surprised by how busy with traffic the street which the house faces onto was. Also, the beach was very small, very rocky, and very little sun there. We did walk to the state park (only 1/4 mile) for that beach, but then you have to pay each time, per person, so that becomes expensive. Other than that, it was a pretty good week - lots of restaurants and places to see are in the area, and beautiful views of mountains, lake, etc.

Owner's Response: The upstairs bedroom that is typically the "kids room" can get warm if the temperatures don't drop at night. We are planning to replace the window in that room for better ventilation. I want to clarify that there is a door in the room that can be closed. We also have several fans throughout the house for those hot summer nights. West Shore Rd. winds around the lake and local traffic uses it, but it's not a major cut through road. In my opinion there is not a lot of traffic, but it depends on your perspective (more than a neighborhood, but less than a rural route). Most renters love the privacy of our small association beach as you often have it to yourself, but it is not for everyone and the State Park is another convenient option, if you don't mind paying. On our listing I do recommend water shoes for our beach if your feet are sensitive as there are rocks when you first enter the water, then smooth sandy bottom.

Great Girls Weekend Escape

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly as described. We loved this cozy cottage - plenty of space and the kitchen is nicely updated. Great location near the lake. It was a bit chilly during our visit so we did not get to take advantage of the fabulous front deck. Close to downtown Bristol, we had seen Chronicle and wanted to visit the local shops. The owner provides a binder full of information for the surrounding area that we found to be very helpful.

This was my first VRBO experience and it was wonderful. The owner was quick to answer our questions and made the process so easy - thanks!

Would definitely stay here again and would recommend!
