Welcome to our cabin retreat located at the base of Caribou Mountain adjacent to both the Caribou National Forest and the Grays Lake National Wildlife refuge in Southeastern Idaho. We sit on approximately 80 acres in the midst of a recreational wonderland.
There are miles and miles of forest trails to hike, bike, cross country ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, ATV or horseback ride right from our front door. You can be fishing premier trout streams and mountain lakes within minutes, including the South Fork of the Snake River, Blackfoot River and Reservoir, Salt River, Grays River and our home water Tincup Creek. The Grays Lake National Wildlife Refuge is home to many species of wildlife and a birders haven. We often have resident populations of moose, deer, elk and sand hill cranes right on our property. This is a trophy hunting area for all big game species. Arrangements can be made with local outfitters and guides for both hunting and fishing.
Most of all we offer tranquil seclusion. Enjoy some downtime and the beautiful scenery and wildlife. The closest towns with facilities are 30-40 miles away. Jackson Hole, Wyoming is about 70 miles and a great day trip. Your accommodations are self sufficient and luxurious. The guest quarters are not in the main cabin but occupy the upper floor of an adjacent log sided building. The accommodations feature an open floor plan of approximately 1000 square feet. There is a king size bed, double sofa sleeper, hardwood floors, eat- in kitchen, full bath, gas fireplace and laundry facilities. Even though we are secluded you will enjoy high speed internet, telephone service, satellite television, shared use of the spa, barbecue, outdoor campfire and much more.
We welcome guests with horses and can arrange boarding for up to four horses. We have a three-stall barn and three adjacent outdoor pens. Additionally we have approximately 10 acres fenced with horse-safe Centaur fencing. We also have facilities for trailers and RV’s with one full hook-up. An adjacent ranch has additional RV facilities.
Your hosts, Cheryl and Chuck Greenhawt, or our neighbors Brian and Alicia Muir can assist you in planning your visit. We are always pleased to share our knowledge of the area and can often be persuaded to ride or fish with our guests.

In the mid nineties we were searching for property to someday retire to and spend our summers horseback riding and fishing. We wanted more than just a couple of acres in subdivision. We found this property that fulfilled all of our dreams. 80 acres adjacent to national forest riding tails and many streams and lakes nearby to fish. The isolation and serenity were welcome but we were persuaded to build a cabin big enough to welcome lots of family and friends. In 2007 we finished building our dream retreat and now split our time between our cabin, travelling and our other home in Salt Lake City.
There aren't many places where you can truly enjoy 360 degree views of breathtaking scenery. We enjoy simply sitting on the back porch to enjoy the views and watch the wildlife.
OUR STAY WITH Cheryl and Chuck could not have been better, except we came home with a empty freezer. We are bow hunters from the east and relish new country. This place did not leave us disappointed, there were opportunities and that is all that you can ask for. The view from property is Caribou Mountain which in itself worth the trip. The garage apartment just spoiled four guys from Pa., who spent many years in a wall tent to a microwave, dish TV, washer and dryer and a heater that works off a remote. The trails go on and on and most are ATV friendly . Cheryl's Chili Verde topped the trip with just the right touch.
I spent three nights here in late August 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed my time. The property is just as described, seems pretty new, is very clean and had everything I needed for my stay. The king sized bed and the sofa are very comfortable. The location is comfortable, quiet, and beautiful. I spent most of my time fly fishing in the nearby streams and enjoying the National Forest, which starts just a mile or so down the road. I intend to stay here again and expand my fishing to other rivers in the area. The owners were very friendly, and I enjoyed visiting with them during my stay. I highly recommend this property for a relaxing vacation.
This place was just what I was looking for. So much beautiful scenery and just what I was looking for for a relaxing weekend away. We went and explored some of the old mines on the mountain down the road that Cheryl had recommended. Cheryl was so inviting, she made me feel like I had known her forever and I was even able to bring my deaf french Bulldog along. I would definitely recommend this place and I know we will definitely be back to explore more of this beautiful place.
Chuck and Cheryl were very helpful with suggestions and tips to assist us with the area. It was a bit out of the way for the Tetons but the drive to and from there was very scenic so it didn't seem far at all.
A beautiful location; friendly, helpful hosts; clean and comfortable accommodations with many thoughtful touches -- this is an extraordinary VRBO property. A big 'Thank You' to Cheryl, Chuck and family for their gracious hospitality! If you want peace and seclusion in a beautiful place; this spacious studio apartment is an excellent option, with local opportunities for birding, hiking, riding or fishing. If you want a base of operations for family activities elsewhere, know that the drive to Alpine, WY is 40 min, and to Jackson, WY, 90 minutes.
Let me begin by saying that Chuck and his wife are absolutely awesome people - very friendly, helpful, and provided great cookies when we pulled in. They have a beautiful house which has a great view and just an absolutely wonderful location. That all being said, I didn't realize this property was a room over the top of their garage. Don't get me wrong, the room was very nice, well appointed studio apartment, but it was still over their garage and not really what I was expecting. Maybe it's bad on me and I didn't read the description well enough, but I thought I would just get that out there. We loved the location, the apartment has a very comfortable bed and nice amenities. Not the best internet service in the apartment, but Chuck mentions that in the property description. Again, I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful we found Chuck and his wife - this is a place you can truly get away from the world.
