Needs TLC and an exterminator
For the most part, the property appeared as pictured however we encountered many problems. We arrived late at night with no direction as to how we would enter the house. It was pitch black and that was a little unnerving with 2 toddlers and a dog. I called earlier to let them know of our arrival time and never heard back. The lamp shades were nowhere to be found and the sofas were very dirty. We had to lay sheets over them for the week in order to feel somewhat comfortable. I recommend a good cleaning or a new set of furniture that can be wiped down. The real problems began our first morning there--we used the seemingly adorable side porch and swing and before long there were loads of ants crawling all over my children which must have made there home in the cushions. My husband also had to clean all the spider sacs all over the porch--they were everywhere. This could have easily been handled by the property manager that never once made an appearance while we were there (despite promises). In the inside of the home, my husband killed no more than 30 spiders of various sizes that week as well as roaches (one spider even landed on the side of my dinner plate as it descended from the ceiling!). However the owner explained they were only "wood roaches" and it just came with the territory. This type of roach did not put me at ease. We called the property manager several times and never received a call back. We spoke with the owner several times who said the property manager would come by to rid the house of a huge spider and gigantic web that took up one whole portion of the dining room window so that we had to look at it while eating daily. Again, no one ever came. The owner did offer to come have someone exterminate the house two days before leaving but with our dog present and nowhere to take her for 6 hrs on a hot summer day--this was not an option. All in all, we were very disappointed in our stay but we truly loved the island and the people and look forward to our return this year...at another property. With a little TLC and attention, this could be a good property.

I am a former Brookline High School English teacher, and currently an After School Teacher at the Peirce Elementary School in Newton. In addition to teaching, I am an event designer and event planner for a Newton based catering company. In addition to working in the catering business, I paint and enjoy selling my work at Oak Bluffs' Featherstone Center for the Arts. My family and I live in Newton MA with our 2 cats, Oliver, a Ragdoll, and Scarlett O'Kitty, a Maine Coon Cat along with the ever jovial, Pearl, our Bernese Mountain Poodle.. We have owned two homes on the Island. Our first home was in West Tisbury where we enjoyed 20 years there as part time residents and landlords for summer renters. We thoroughly enjoy our second Vineyard home in 'the city' of Oak Bluffs. Everything is so close and yet we enjoy complete privacy, surrounded by beautiful trees and plantings on a quiet street. We have over 25 years experience renting out our homes, and we have only had great experiences!
