We rented the house for a month and enjoyed every minute of our time there! The house is very roomy for a cape and can easily accommodate up to 8 comfortably with room for additional quests on cots or air mattresses. The house is well equipped with kitchen supplies , flat screen TV, fans, washer and dryer in basement, gas grill, picnic table, comfortable couch and best of all the garage! Great to store bikes, golf clubs, fishing poles, floats, etc... A new ping pong table was set up in the garage and was lots of fun. The waterfront offers beautiful views of the lake and distant White mountains. There is an additional picnic table at the waterfront plus a hammock and fire pit. (Please note that there are two sets of stairs down to the waterfront) The use of the two kayaks was awesome! Exploring the lake and listening to the loons in the early morning or at sunset was amazing! We had many friends and family come to visit us and the house, waterfront and location offers something for everyone. Friends brought their motor boat which was easily launched from the Highland Boat launch just down the street, plenty of room for parking, within walking distance and bike riding to town, Highland Golf Course just up the street, convenient location to grocery stores and restaurants.
The owner is fabulous to work with and very responsive. He answered all of our questions and was very accommodating. Thanks for a wonderful summer vacation and we will definitely return again!
Ideal place to spend time with friends and family. Layout as described was very helpful and accurate. Property was pristine and very welcoming. It had something for everyone; reading in a hammock, swimming/floating/kayaking/fishing in the water, watching sunsets from the porch, smores by the fire, laying out on the docks, strolling through a friendly and charming downtown, biking/hiking, or just spending quality time with all. I had several friends visit during our stay and they loved it as well. Can’t wait to go back.
We (6 adults and 7 kids) rented the lake house and cottage for a week in August 2010. The cottage was fine for sleeping, reading, and peace and quiet, but most of our waking hours were spent at the lake house. The layout is spacious and relaxing.
Highland lake has clean water with lots of fish. We took early morning paddles when the water was like glass and when the wind picked up during the day we went out on the sunfish that we rented from Sebago lakes boat rental. It was fun star -gazing and night-swimming by the dock. We had cookouts and ordered takeout lobster and corn from a little place in town. We also went to the drive-in theater and played mini-golf. The hammocks were as popular as the ping pong table. The road around the lake was good for running and biking and there’s a public golf course nearby as well. It is a really nice place.
My family of four (two boys ages 7 and 10) stayed here for a week in late august. It was our first time to a lake house, usually we go to the beach. This was wonderful. Being right on the water was so convenient and fun. The kids loved swimming right off the dock, racing back and forth to the swim float, fishing, kayaking - everything. There is everything you need there to have a great time, kayaks for all, a canoe, large tubes to float in. There is also a small island near the house which made a great kayaking destination. The cottage is gorgeous, very well designed and takes perfect advantage of the gorgeous views. Cooking dinner every night was a treat as we could look right out onto the sparkling water. We had a few other families through during our week and they all thought it was just perfect. Great set-up for multi-family parties with 2 queen bedrooms in the main house, 4 twins on the first floor and then the rooms in the cape as well. We enjoyed smores many nights at the fire pit - definitely a highlight. The kids enjoyed the small playground right down the street which also had a sandy beach for little ones. A quick walk to a cute small town topped it all off. Close to a large Hannaford supermarket too. Everything was well-maintained and as described in the site. The owner was very helpful in answering all my questions. We loved that there was no internet or tv, it made for a relaxing week. We did watch a few movies on dvd. A wonderful vacation!! We'll definitely be back.
Stayed w/family & friends 8/15-8/22/09. We/ve vacationed in the Bridgton area several times & love it. Property is nicely situated w/great waterfront (docks, raft) although there's no real beach so those w/small kids may want to take the short walk down the road to the town beach. Group meals for guests of both cottages were possible at the newer/larger building (at BBQ/campfire area picnic tables, or on deck or in dining room). Highland Lake is great for swimming, fishing, & boating, & free use of kayaks was a nice amenity. The older cottage is nice but could use a few touches: stove repair or replacement; better side entryway stairs w/railing; doors for privacy of upstairs bedrooms; clothes closets/cabinets or at least hooks in bedrooms; better TV/DVD setup). Also, we didn't find any guest info in either building on things like trash disposal, what to do if problems arise, how much to clean before leaving, local attractions/resources, etc. The rental rate seems somewhat high, but overall this is a very nice property which can accommodate about 8 in each cottage, so by splitting the cost among 3 families we were able to afford it. I would stay here again.
