About Bob

We are two lifelong friends who bought this building to live in. We remodeled it completely for ourselves with 5 star extras, and later converted it to a vacation rental.

Bob purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Bob chose Bridgeport

Our building is very close to everything in Chicago, including our convention center, McCormick Place. You are in a quiet and safe neighborhood, but the city center and all of our major attractions are a real 15 minutes away. It's the best of both worlds.

What makes this apartment unique

You will love our deck with the amazing view of the Chicago city skyline, our hot tub, and our huge steam bath shower with multiple Grohe Body Sprays. It is like a massage.

We are ½ mile from the I-94 Dan Ryan Expressway. It is a 5 minute drive to Lake Shore Drive and another 10-15 minutes from there to the Museums, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Michigan Avenue shopping and every major attraction in this city.

When we lived in this building ourselves, we would always be able to get to the lakefront and all of our major attractions in 10 to 20 minutes, even in traffic. If there is a concert, or major festival on the lakefront. we can show you a local shortcut to make great travel time to our city center and skip any traffic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family of four (parents plus two pre-teen daughters) stayed at Bob's place for a week during spring break. We were able to enjoy the comfort and privacy of a home that provides luxury amenities and do all the sightseeing (museums, zoos, aquarium, Sky Deck, Navy Pier, Blue Man Group) we wanted without breaking the bank - and we still had an extra bedroom! The things we enjoyed most about Bob's place: 1) hot tub, 2) rooftop deck, 3) luxury shower, 4) well equipped kitchen, 5) local neighborhood restaurants (we recommend Kathy's for breakfast sandwiches and Rico Bene's for delivery Italian & great Chicago hotdogs!), 6) convenience of location to highway and downtown (we could get everywhere we wanted to go in 10-20 mins), 7) garage parking. When you stay at Bob's place, he provides you with a ton of very thorough pre-trip information and tips that will help you get the most out of your experience while being cost conscious. More...

Notes:
The guest renting the apartment must be 25 years of age or older. If the guests are under 30, we expect very responsible adults. Our rentals are not a good fit for very hard partiers and very late nights. We don't rent our apartments for parties or gatherings of any kind. Noise late at night or excessive noise anytime is very disturbing to our neighbors and other guests, so our rentals are really not a good fit for the very late night or very hard partying expect a quiet environment crowd. Our guests appreciate that we have a quiet and peaceful environment. The maximum capacity of the apartment is 6 people in 3 queen beds (and an air bed that can be set up for one extra sleeping space). We will sometimes make slight adjustments on these limits with our prior approval only.

Best Value is no lie! Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this rental for two of us coworkers attending a trade show at the McCormick Center for the week. It's close by (about 1.7 miles), several blocks away from Comiskey Field with great rooftop views from their deck, and a WONDERFUL hot tub to soak the day's worries away in the evenings. Best stocked rental I've had booking through HomeAway with everything from a gourmet kitchen, coffee, sundry personal items, cleaning supplies and laundry stuff to garage parking and super easy walking to many nice restaurants and pubs. You can't go wrong with the location and the place is HUGE with three nice bedrooms, super comfortable bedding and the quaintness of high ceilings and a Victorian feel. The basement even reminded me of my grandmother's old house with the quirkiness and smells of old varnish, wood and stone. I would recommend this property and the super friendly owners in a heartbeat, and would book here first again when Chicago is on my itinerary! Hot tub was easy to use and a wonderful perk. Two different washer/dryers were available and I did use the one in the basement which worked great. Bob and Bob were quick to answer questions via text and VERY helpful! 5 stars - a heckuva lot cheaper than hotels and super roomy! The bathroom is very nice with a great steam shower, body sprayers and great hot water. Having the garage eliminated street parking and was great in the evenings when the street was full. Even with White Sox ball field traffic it wasn't congested, and it's just a really nice quaint neighborhood with lots of friendly people out on their stoops at night with neighbors. We walked every evening for several miles to different restaurants and never once felt that we were in a bad area, and it's an easy area to navigate. I looked at other nearby rentals and this one definitely has them beat - hands down!

Great place for a great price!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a girls’ getaway with two friends. Place was the perfect size, we each had our own room with plenty of storage for luggage, but also had plenty of communal space to sit and relax with a glass of wine. The shower with the body jets was amazing, as was the hot tub to relax after long days of walking around the city. Kitchen was nice and well-equipped, though we never had time to actually cook. Internet was fast and DirecTV was a nice touch. Beds were comfortable enough, although the pillows were a bit thin. Nothing unbearable though, and the rental was very competitively priced, given the size. If I find myself in Chicago, I would love to rent this place again

We didn’t have a car, so I can’t speak to parking, but the place was conveniently located to a Red Line stop, and if you’re going to a White Sox game (which we did), you can’t ask for a better location. Used Uber only for airport rides, since we flew through the further airport (O’Hare) but even those were fairly inexpensive. Neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. The owners were incredibly friendly through email, responded quickly, and sent tons of info. The keypad lock system was nice and we didn’t have to be responsible for keys.

My only suggestions: thicker, better pillows (we bought cheap ones at Target and left them, though I don’t know if they remained) and a full-length mirror. Being a group of girls, we would have loved a full-length mirror for outfit checks ;)

Great Property..

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time with my family. The house was very conveniently located. The house was very accommodating with everything you need. We were comfortable enough to have a day where we just stood “home”. It was relaxing, drank my coffee on the roof top with great view. Very relaxing. I recommend this house and will stay there again when I return.

Thank you for for everything.

Home away from home in the Windy City!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from this fabulous rental conveniently located near the RED line on the CTA, which took us everywhere we went within minutes. 2 stops north on the RED line gets you to a transfer station to go anywhere in the city - we went as far north as Second City, west to Oak Park and everywhere else. We used Lyft to get to the 1 or 2 places that weren't conveniently served ( time wise, for us) by any CTA bus or train.

The home is located in the shadow of the White Sox stadium in a lovely neighborhood. The home is well equipped with premium cable, comfy beds ( the futon a tiny bit less so than the 2 Queen beds) , a well stocked kitchen of cookware, stainless steel appliances and many spices and other cooking items.

There are 3 stand out highlights here - the rooftop deck which overlooks the Chicago skyline was a real treat. The ladder to get there may be a bit too steep for some but we managed it OK. The indoor hot tub was THE BOMB, especially after a busy day of sightseeing and tired feet. But my FAVORITE feature, by far, was the multi-spray, luxurious, LARGE shower - with 2 overhead faucets and 3 horizontal ones, I felt like I was in a spa, being given the royal treatment.

The 2 owners sent us copious information ahead of time on things to do, where to eat, transportation options, etc. And all of my questions prior to arrival were promptly answered. When we arrived, the WiFi and cable were acting a bit funky but a quick phone call & visit solved the problem immediately. The owners aim to please!

I highly recommend the home for anyone wanting a "home away from home" while in the Chicago area!

Spacious and spotless house.

  • 5 of 5

Bob's place was very charming and spacious. The house is very well equipped and has everything you will need in a home away from home. The jacuzzi is a great perk. The neighborhood is quiet and it is only 15 minutes drive from Millenium Park.

We had a great time here and would definitely recommend it.

Good stay, decent priced.

  • 4 of 5

Being less than 1 mile from the metro was great! The neighborhood was quiet and was close to the White Sox Stadium. There was enough kitchen items to make a good meal, beds were comfy and the shower was great! We took our own items, but there seemed to be plenty of dish, laundry and personal soap if you needed it. The washer and dryer was nice so that you could pack less if you came in on a flight. We didn't use the hot tub as we had children under 12 that weren't allowed to use it, but it looked nice. It would have been great to soak in after a long day of walking through the city. It was great to have a garage space for the week, but there also seemed to be plenty of parking on the street if you had an extra vehicle. Bob responded fast to any questions we had before, during, and after our stay. I would stay here again if we ever come to the city. We saved a lot of money making some meals and not having to pay for extra parking in the city. Thanks for the great stay!!

Ours is a 2 unit building. If you need more space, you can rent both apartments and you'd have the entire building. Our guests who do that really enjoy that. Our other apartment is HomeAway listing number 271945

We have a few main policies that we prefer to discuss up front. We know that these don't apply to 99% of our guests, but we have learned the hard way that these need to be discussed before we reserve a rental for a guest.

We don’t allow parties or gatherings of any kind. We only rent our apartments for lodging. Noise late at night or excessive noise anytime is very disturbing to our neighbors and other guests, so our rentals are definitely not a good fit for the very late night or very hard partying crowd. We do not rent to guests coming for music festivals or concerts. A few groups ruined that for everyone.
