Our cabin is located 17 miles from Crescent City off of Highway 199 in a quiet secluded country setting, We are surrounded by the Smith River National Recreation Area. Our cabin overlooks the river, an organic garden, and large lawns. The Smith River is one of the largest undamed wild and scenic watersheds in the United States. Unparalleled in beauty and tranquility. Solitude and pristine, natural settings can be found throughout the area. Over 65 miles of trails give access to the botanical areas, forested ridges, craggy peaks, grassy meadows, scenic rivers, and mountain lakes.

The spectacular Northern California coastline is only 20 minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Future Guest looking at this book- now don't you feel smug for having discovered what has to be the nearest place this side of perfect... certainly in southern Oregon/northern California. I live in Brookings (on the coast) and while we enjoy the ocean, there is nothing on this earth more relaxing and restorative than a pristine river in the wilderness. And such luxurious "digs"... Hard to call this a cabin.

A big round of applause to Kris & Mike for getting everything absolutely perfect. An even bigger vote of gratitude for their willingness to share this magical place with we lucky few people. Within the first hour here, I told Kris we were never leaving... not very original but certainly heartfelt.

We too, loved Mattie's gentle presence, and how about that "pocket rocket" Nellie.

To think that we can come again makes our hearts sing.

A dream Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Ravens Nest and loved it. The cabin was so cute and really much bigger that you would think. I loved the kitchen it was stocked with everything you need and had plenty of room for my husband and I to cook together. The place was very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the evenings on the deck playing games and sitting in the Jacuzzi. Our 15 year old grandson came with us and loved the large lawn where you can play football, soccer or whatever game you enjoy. The Smith river that is a few steps away is so fresh and clean. We sat in the chairs that were provided and enjoyed the sun and swimming the the river. Words can't describe the beauty of this place. Once you cross over the footbridge you will embark on a dream vacation. Kris and Mike are such great host and will make sure that you have what ever you need.

Serene, tranquil and perfectly peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed the Raven’s Nest Cabin. It was the perfect getaway to unplug and explore nature without the camping hassle. Everything you need is in this quaint little cabin - fully equipped kitchen with pots, pans, cooking utensils and baking tools. The river was picture perfect, the sounds of the running stream lulled you to sleep at night. We enjoyed everything - exploring the grounds, swimming the river and soaking in the hot tub. Well worth the picturesque 14 hour drive. Hope we may visit again. The owners Kris and Mike are available to help with a golf cart to cross the suspension bridge with your things if you don’t have 4 wheel drive.

Amazing property surrounded by deep wooded forest and mountains.

  • 5 of 5

My wife, Ann, and I have traveled wide and far from our home in San Francisco. 90 % of the places we stay are vrbo/homeAway. This was perhaps the best of all. The cottage and the 15 acres surrounding it have been loved and well attended to inside and out. The hot tub, the well stocked kitchen, the space, the two bathrooms; one with an old beautiful claw foot tub and the other with a large walk-in shower. The Smith River is an easy 50 yard walk from the cottage. Cannot say enough. We will go back.

Beyond our wildest dreams! Truly amazing!

  • 5 of 5

When we first saw this darling little cabin we thought - this will be perfect as a hub for our planned hiking vacation through the Redwoods. However, no photos can capture the beauty and specialness of this place. From the second you walk across that bridge, it feels like a big hug welcoming you home. The grounds that the McMillans maintain are extraordinary and they are amazing to share it with the world. We had the trip of our lives. We decided to take a whole day and never leave the compound... just stay home, enjoy the river, the grounds and the natural beauty. This place is a treasure. Thank you!

Majestic retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Ravens Nest was unforgettable. The views, the house, the hot tub, the sounds of nature...everything was beyond our expectations. We will definitely be back for our anniversary, with the kids in summer, or maybe, probably both!

Great location if you are looking to get away and spend some time hiking and enjoying the outdoors. The property was very accommodating and would highly recommend it to others. WiFi was not lightning fast, but it meat our needs.
