About the property

Charming studio apartment with plush queen bed sleeps 2

A couple weeks still available in August w/ 5 night minimum.

"the Nest" apartment located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood is just 3 minutes walking distance to Boston Common, the Freedom Trail, an organic grocery store, a wine shop and many more conveniences and Boston attractions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to "The Nest", a charming top floor studio apartment, oozing with comfy quaintness. This unit is located in a late 1800s Beacon Hill building at the very top of the Hill and the center of downtown Boston. The original pumpkin pine flooring, original decorative fireplace and antique furniture add to the appeal. The apartment is extremely quiet located at the back of the building with tree tops and sunlight filtering in from the south-facing windows.

Basics: The kitchen is done to a very high standard. Normal-sized refrigerator, gas stove, Bosch quiet dishwasher, microwave and deep sink. The bed is a Beauty-Rest plush-firm queen with down pillows and sateen sheets. The bathroom has marble tiled floor, high-end fixtures and a beautiful nickel-plated rain/hand shower and tub. A common washer/dryer is located at the bottom of the stairs along with a place to keep a bike.

Electronics: An LG LED HDTV (w/ standard HD cable (CNN, CNBC, HBO, ESPN, etc.), DVR to record, DVD/CD player (w/ DVDs), very fast business-grade wired/wireless internet, telephone & answering machine with free US & Canada LD, hair-dryer, vacuum, laser printer.

Eco-Green: Aside from an efficient apartment in a location that promotes walking and public transportation; bed linens and pillows are eco-certified and cleaning agents, paper supplies and soaps/shampoos are earth-friendly whenever possible. We recycle. Cloth shopping totes are hanging in the kitchen and the electricity is powered from wind energy.

Essentials: No smoking, no pets, no parking (ask), sleeps 2 pax maximum (no exceptions). Includes all utilities and furnishings, very detailed owner's manual for apartment and neighborhood, along with owner's personalized restaurant map.

Expectations: Please note that Beacon Hill is on a hill in an urban historical zone, so there is a fair amount of walking when staying in this neighborhood. The Nest apartment is a 4th floor walk-up (3 flights of stairs; European 3rd floor) without an elevator, which may not be suitable for all guests.

We have other accommodations in the Beacon Hill neighborhood with different profiles, so just ask.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our first visit and we lucked out with the nest. The location is great. Grocery and liquor stores within a 2 minute walk. Train stations nearby. Easy to walk around the beacon hill area. Very quite. Bed and shower were both great. We had every thing we needed. Dining within walking distance.

My only improvement would be to have one upholstered chair.....Not a big deal. [note from owner: we added a very nice chair based on this suggestion]

We plan on going back next year.

This place is absolutely the best! We could not have been happier! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited Boston for the first time. We booked Paul’s studio apartment located in Beacon Hill. It did not disappoint! It is the perfect size for 2 people. Everything was clean, super cozy, very comfortable and decorated in way that made it feel like home. After walking around all of Boston and seeing the location of the hotels, we both agreed that we would not have wanted to stay anywhere else. I highly recommend reading Paul’s personalized notes left for his guests, as it is full of helpful tips and suggestions.

There is nothing negative to say at all. We will be coming back to Boston in the future and this place will be our number one choice! Thank you, Paul!

Great location. Apartment had everything.

  • 5 of 5

The "Nest" was exactly as represented. The building is older so this isn't a glass and chrome sort of modern apartment. It's just the right size for two people. The place is very quite, completely free from street sounds. This is largely due to its situation on the forth floor. It is a significant climb, something we welcomed because we needed the workout, but if you aren't prepared for this kind of exercise at the end of a long day out in the city, then this isn't the place for you.

We would recommend the Nest most highly and we'd certainly go again. The location on Beacon Hill was almost perfect, equidistant from the Park St. T station and a Whole Foods store down the hill with the MGH T station just a bit further. Paul lives nearby and he was very responsive to questions and a couple calls for assistance. His quick responses to our initial plans helped us understand the rental and he was accommodating to our special requests. A very pleasant week in a comfortable apartment.

Location, Location, Location!

  • 4 of 5

We spent nearly 4 weeks in The Nest in May 2018. In that time, we visited virtually every part of the city using the "T", and ocassionally buses. It's only a 10 minute walk to a station for any "T" lines. Whole Foods, CVS, liquor store, laundromat, and several restaurants are all within a 5 minute walk. Less than a mile walk will get you to the State House, major Freedom Trail sites, Boston Commons, the downtown area, and more. The owner, Paul, has an excellent guest manual filled with tips. He is also very responsive.

We were initially a little intimidated by the 300 sq. ft. size and three flights of stairs. Neither turned out to be a problem. The apartment is small, but the layout very serviceable. Take the stairs slowly, and plan ahead.

A few small issues: The corridor to the stairway is pretty run down, don't let that scare you. The apartment is simply furnished, but has everything you need. The fire alarm is VERY sensitive, making it difficult to cook, even with the windows opened.

Bottom line, Boston was great and we we would return to The Nest in a heartbeat!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and I'm happy that you had such a good stay at the Nest and in Boston. Fortunately the ground floor entry hallway is being fully refurbished in June. The building suffered a significant broken water pipe flood this spring causing damage to that area. There is no impact to the stairwell nor apartment and the hallways will look even better than before once repaired. I haven't received any comments regarding cooking problems in all these years but I'll take note and look into the smoke detector. Happy Travels!

Wonderful location, quiet, comfortable apartment with all I needed. I would definitely stay again.

I loved the location, you can walk to everything including two train stations and as many T stations. And the airport is just 15 minutes away. Beacon hill is a wonderful neighborhood with great historical character - you feel like you are in a village within a city with shops and restaurants, the Commons and the river running path all just a few blocks away. The building and lobby are is little worn, but it feels safe and secure. The flat is comfortable and equipped with all the basics. It is also at the back of the building and so quiet and private. The bed is very comfortable (very important!), there is good lighting, and there is alot of storage space with drawers under the bed as well as a well organized closet. There is a good internet connection. This is not the place for you if you can not climb stairs- it is a three steep story walk up with no elevator. For me this was only really a challenge getting my luggage up. The only real issue I had was with the heat - it is centralized in the building, the flat has a big old radiator that you only turn on or off and it is not clear what the schedule is - sometimes it was on in the morning, sometimes in the evening but not with any predictability. So you could come home to a freezing or a hot apartment depending on the day. There is an electric heater to supplement. Nothing to do in an old house but something to be aware of for longer winter stays. All in all I would highly recommend this apartment and hope to be back.
