We live in Florida, this is our London home. We visit it at least once per year. We have come to know this area very well and truly enjoy its many attractions as well as the excellent access to the West End and the major tourist sites.
The flat is bright, cheerful, and spacious. All rooms have large windows. The kitchen and the two bedrooms have a Western exposure. The living room, bathroom and toilet (which are separate rooms) have an Eastern exposure. The large master bedroom has a very comfortable USA king-size bed and ample wardrobe and drawer space. The second bedroom has two large single beds and ample wardrobe space. For the 'fifth' person we use an air mattress in the living room.
The living room has comfortable seating for four people as well as a large 37' flat screen TV (with Freeview and SKY TV), radio, CD/tape player, and a DVD player. Free broadband internet connection (wireless or cable) is available. A printer may be connected to your laptop. International phone calls are free to landlines in many (36) countries. The kitchen is large enough that four people can eat around the table and not impede someone preparing food. It is fully-equipped to service six people.
The flat is located on the second floor (third floor by USA definition) of a picturesque Mansion block built in 1896. It does not have a lift. Access to the stair well to the flat is by a key or by remotely unlocking the door after verifying the caller’s identity via TV cameras. The mansion block is located at the end of a cul-de-sac and road noise is almost non-existent.
West Kensington Underground station is a seven minute walk from the building. It is on the District line and is three stops from the Knightsbridge shopping district and seven stops from Westminster Abbey/Houses of Parliament.
A five minute walk to Hammersmith High Street will give you access to multiple bus routes taking you up Kensington High Street, through Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner into the West End of London.
There are half a dozen restaurants and the same number of 'take outs' that can be reached in under ten minutes. The large, superb Tesco Supermarket is a ten minute walk. There are green-grocers and smaller supermarket shops on the way to the Underground station, which are closer to the flat. There is a dry cleaner, video rental store, liquor store, news-agent, and 3 eating places all within five minutes of the flat.
There is a large multi-screen cinema at the bottom of Kensington High Street - a 12-15 minute walk. For tennis fans, the Queen’s Club tennis facility is a 15 minute walk and Earl’s Court Underground station (a 12 minute walk) offers a direct (six stops) connection to Wimbledon. The flat is less than a 10 minute walk to the Olympia and Earl's Court exhibition halls. Holland Park - peaceful and relaxing - is a 15 minute walk.

If our flat is of interest, please check our calendar for availability. If the first or last day of your visit period is unavailable, we have an arrangement with a local hotel to accommodate you for this night, possibly at no additional cost.
As mentioned in other posts, this flat is conveniently located, within easy walking distance to the tube and bus stops. The flat is plenty big enough for 5 people, and has a nice kitchen and bedrooms. Very safe neighborhood, upscale, good security at the flat. A 17 minute tube ride to Westminster and downtown, but also try the double-decker on Kensington High Street. Fun shops just minutes walk away, and only 5 minute walk to Tesco, Waitrose, and Sainsbury for quite good groceries. (Try Best Mangal II on Cromwell for great Turkish food). We highly recommend this accomodation
I was lucky to find this flat after my original reservation cancelled on me about 36 hours before I was departing. The owner was very responsive to emails and phone calls. The flat is nice. It was in a neighborhood area, but eating and drinking establishments were within a 5 minute walk. There were different options for trains and subways within walking distance. As mentioned in other posts about the only negative was the living room was on the back side of the flat and there is a train track right behind the building. Highly recommend this rental. The listing was accurate in all descriptions.
My husband & I & our 2 sons (17 & 21yrs) stayed in this flat for 5 nights over Christmas and had a fabulous time. David, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with from when we booked, prior to our stay & since our departure. His communication is outstanding, with lots of practical information about the flat, the local Kensington area & London, which greatly enhanced our stay. The flat was extremely comfortable & very cosy for Australians spending their first 'Winter-time' Christmas! The flat is well appointed, with everything you need to make it a home away from home. The location is great, so close to public transport, supermarkets, and is in a very attractive part of London. Thank you David for helping us to make our time in London so enjoyable & memorable, we would highly recommend this flat to anyone.
Our family of three spent five nights in the flat. It was very clean and in a nice quiet neighborhood. Owner was a pleasure to work with. Amenities were good. Kitchen was well equipped and everything was in good working order. There was renovation being done on the exterior of the building which we were not notified of in advance. Made it very difficult to take a nap the day we arrived as it was very noisy. Also the building was built around 1893 and the residents above us were up very late and the floors above were quite squeaky. Nice to have a market close by and felt safe to walk around at night. An excellent place to stay while you explore the great city of London.
Our family (2 adults/2 kids between 10 and 15) stayed in this flat and were very pleased. The bedroom setup was perfect for us, the laundry was immensely helpful and easy to use, and the kitchen afforded us the opportunity to eat a good breakfast before heading out for a long, wonderful day of sightseeing. The location was just what we had hoped -- close enough to the city center, while giving us a more residential feel. Access to the tube and busses was easy and convenient. David was readily available with tips and communication in advance of the trip, and (since the wifi worked wonderfully), he responded right away to my two email exchanges with him while we were there. We often bought tickets to sights online (using our iPad), and then had no trouble showing our barcoded reservations on the smartphone once there -- it saved us a fair amount of money.
I would note that there was the regular rumble of a nearby train (no whistles, just "clickety-clacks"), but I rather enjoyed the sound -- and I am not a light sleeper. We even slept with the windows open at times because we enjoyed the fresh, cooler air. This location is certainly quieter than the city center, but light sleepers might want ear plugs.
You do need to plan for things like shampoo, soap and other personal toiletries, but I would check out what is there (we left, for instance, almost an entire box of laundry detergent) before buying duplicates at the store.
I would definitely recommend this flat and would come again. It felt like home after our week there. Thanks for everything, David!
My husband and I spent five nights at this flat in West Kensington. We love everything about it - the location, the layout, the comfort, etc.
We loved being able to prepare all of our breakfasts and a couple of our dinners in the flat, and enjoyed takeout from a nearby Chinese restaurant. It was also very nice having access to a washing machine & dryer - allowing us to pack lighter for our trip.
Getting to the Underground and using the tube system was very easy. I am glad we chose to stay in a "neighborhood" as opposed to a highly touristy area in other parts of town.
We will definitely recommend this to others and the flat would be our first choice should we return to London.
