The Neighborhood:

Bedford-Stuvesant has become the hottest part of Brooklyn. So many exciting new restaurants and cafes are opening up that it's hard to keep up with the changes. Beautiful historical neighborhood with a trendy young spirit. Safe, quiet, vibrant and super friendly. Make sure you visit our local farmer's market

Recent NY Times review of the neighborhood sums up the essence of this stunning, vibrant and constantly changing historical neighborhood.

Located in the historic district of Bedford-Stuyvesant; today a vibrant urban Caribbean/African American community (sandwiched in between the fascinating Hasidic areas of Crown Heights and Williamsburg), only 15 minutes from the Barclay Center, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens/Zoo & Museum of Art. Nowhere else can you find such luxurious, spacious living, in the heart of New York City and only a 20 minute subway ride to Greenwich Village. the neighborhood is quiet, neighbors are warm and very friendly and you will find an abundance of fresh fruit, seafood, meat and grocery stores -- New local restaurants and coffee shops are cropping up everyday and lines wrap around the block for famous new establishments, Peaches and (vegetarian) Saraghina. Fashionable Fort Greene and Williamsburg are only minutes away on foot, by bus or subway and home to some of today's best bars and restaurants in Brooklyn

Read a Letter from a Recent Happy Guest: 'Our stay in NY and in your House were great! We really enjoyed the house and we were so happy we were not in Manhatten. We especially loved your kitchen. This was the place we sat in or in the garden. Lovely to sit there in the morning with a coffee. We also met Sylvia (neighbor) and Hannibal (her dog). We never used the sitting room because we had great weather all week.

Everything you told me about the house was right. No surprises or disappointments. It's a house with great character and we also liked the neighborhood. Nice people everywhere".

What makes this apartment unique

Please note this is an Edwardian Brownstone. There is one main entrance and one main staircase

This house has 4 floors and there is a woman who lives on the 4th floor. SHE HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATE FACILITIES AND DOES NOT SHARE ANY PART OF YOUR APARTMENT.

The only part of the house she (and her guests) share with you is the main entrance and the staircase to her apartment.

The tenant is very quiet, friendly and super helpful should you need anything. Many guests have commented on what an asset she had been to them.

You have 2 private bathrooms and a private kitchen. You would be occupying 3 FLOORS + BACKYARD AND LAUNDRY. All rooms have a key so you can lock every door.

A beautifully restored home in the buzzing and vibrant area of Brooklyn.

  • 5 of 5

From the time I contacted the owner Ruty, she was so helpful and arranged everything so well, offering many tips on eateries, travelling around, local supermarkets and anything else I needed to know. Ruty responds very quickly to queries and ensured that my stay went smoothly. The home is exactly as described and we had many happy memories made, playing board games in the grand and gorgeous sitting room, eating in the kitchen and sitting in the garden on warm days! I can't recommend this home enough if you want something different and feel part of a real community in Brooklyn, not just a tourist!! I would definitely stay here again and Ruty's helpfulness and organising was just the icing on the cake! Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and unique. We definitely enjoyed coming back to the home after a long day of sightseeing and talking with your neighbours who were warm, genuine and helpful too...Dia is lovely and again answered our queries...I hope I can visit this home again at some point in the future! Thanks again for everything!

Spacious and unique!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in this lovely Brownstone. We kept finding delightful architectural surprises every time we looked up or turned a corner. Ruty answered all of our questions and was very easy to work with. The neighbor next door and Dia, who lived upstairs, were very sweet and attentive. One of the nights it snowed and we were cold but once I mentioned this to Dia, it was remedied immediately. Five of us stayed there and there was plenty of room. The beds and pillows were comfortable. I slept on the air mattress because I have some joint pain and it was perfect. We spent 1 day wandering around Brooklyn and two in Manhattan. We went to Peaches Hothouse, the restaurant that Ruty recommended, for Brunch on Sunday. We were seated immediately, service was prompt and food was delicious. I highly recommend this home!

Beautiful, well-equipped brownstone, but didn't see the hip neighborhood spoken of in reviews

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 4 adults in their mid-fifties that stayed here. The lovely brownstone looks exactly like the pictures and the kitchen was very well equipped. It even had staples like oil, salt, sugar, etc. We had no trouble checking-in. We texted the tenant and she was quick to respond to any questions we had, but we never heard her or saw her. The next door neighbor let us in, and she was very nice. The rooms were spacious and beautiful. The woodwork was so detailed. I expected it to be cold and drafty, but it was quite warm! We were actually hot sometimes. There wasn't a way to turn down the thermostat that we saw and the temp stayed around 73 degrees. We would have been fine if it was about 68! The two upstair beds were very firm and the downstairs bed was a little softer. There was a significant amount of street noise from sirens and cars, but after spending all day in NYC, we slept fine after the first night. There is a FoodTown grocery store within walking distance. The walk to the subway is about 5 blocks and takes less than 10 mins. We never felt in danger, even walking at 10:00 at night because there was always people around, but we stayed vigilant regardless. We never saw the vibrant neighborhood spoken of in many reviews, but we basically went from the subway station to the property everyday. We knew it was going to be around a 30 minute trip to NYC everyday, so once we left Brooklyn, it was late before we returned. It worked out ok, but it would have been nice to be closer. The trade off is we had a nice place to stay for a much better price! Ruty was very responsive to any questions we had and it is a lovely property with a lot of character!

Lovely home, did not sleep

  • 3 of 5

The home was beautiful and comfortable. The home is very spacious and has great amenities. Communication with the owner was good, she responds quickly. However the noise from inside and outside the home kept us from sleeping. We slept on the ground floor and could hear all kinds things going on right outside our windows; such as people arguing, road work, music at 2:00 a.m. Our children and mother were sleeping in the upstairs bedrooms. The 4th floor tenant would come and go during the hours we were trying to sleep. The tenant and her guests use the main entrance to the home and then the creaky stairs passing through the house and passing the kids bedroom; so we were not able to sleep as we were listening for who was in the house and where they were. I was not comfortable locking the kids in their bedroom because then they could not get to the bathroom or us if needed. This is a great home if you do not mind sharing the entrance and stairs through the home with other people.

Beautiful house.Fantastic holiday. Can't wait to go back. Loved Brooklyn. Friendly neighbours

  • 5 of 5

The property is a beautiful townhouse in a great location. Spacious, comfortable, characterful and clean. All your home from home necessities provided. Nice back garden for sitting out in the evenings. Friendly neighbourhood. Good superstore in easy walking distance. Ditto Kingston Throop subway. We bought weekly Metro cards and travelled at will. From Upper Manhatten to Coney Island, Queens to Liberty Island. A really good base. Lots of useful info from the landlady. And a friendly and helpful building manager who helped us arrange our taxi back to JFK. Hope to return!.

Better in winter?

  • 3 of 5

I stayed here with 2 friends at the end of Sept. We each had a queen bedroom. Nice! Comfy beds. Indian summer heat wave had the place roasting. Too much noise outside to keep windows open. AC in bedrooms so loud I had to keep a pillow over my head to try sleep.

That was the downside. Conveniently located to trains to city and local groceries. Lots of creaky stairs up and down to bedrooms and kitchen was ok for us. Upstairs tenant shares common stairway inside the rental, hard to lock out with old doors and many keys. Yard off kitchen really could use some TLC.

Owner's Response: Hi Lillian Yes, the house was very hot ( when you arrived late on a hot September day), but as you said, it cooled down pretty quickly. Each room has a brand new (quiet) a/c unit, and we are sorry if you were kept awake. Also our aplogies for the creaky stairs, but this is an Edwadian brownstone with its original staircase. Every room has its own key, so guests can have total security and privacy. We do the best we can to provide a clean, safe, comfortable and unique experience, which we believe is good value for money. Sorry we did not meet your standards. We enjoyed having you. Ruty
