Very good villa. Pool is just what is required and the hot tub on the roof is a great way to finish your evening. Frank is very helpful. Any issues are sorted very quickly. Close to local bars and shops. Enjoyed our week here.
Not what we expected
This three-level terraced house would probably be considered excellent value for four people. It is marketed primarily on the basis of the pool in the private garden, and therefore the place does not didn't live up to expectations. And the garden is small so there is only sun there from late morning until mid-afternoon, plus the vegetation creates a lot of shade so you have to keep moving, the pool is cold and the garden seems to be a haven for flies. So we used the main terrace mostly which isn't very private. The houses are very close to each other, so you can hear noise not just from nearby but from some quite a distance away, including maintenance work and parties. Internally the apartment was clean (except for some ants, and odd mosquito) and OK - cooker, fringe, washing machine, dishwasher etc, but little storage for food that didn't need to go into the fridge, and no drainage rack for cups and spoons etc that you may decide to handwash. Wifi works well. Most of the metal doors stuck, and some scraped very noisily on the floor. Mostly the place felt like a rather unloved holiday apartment which was unnecessarily cluttered with displays that people may not really like, and the main bedroom has an intriguingly draped double bed which was out of context. We didn't fancy the hot tub.
Locationwise: Very near a good supermarket and bars/cafes with sometimes evening/lunchtime entertainment, pharmacy, clothes shops and market stalls a couple of times a week. Parking is outside the apartment. 20/30 minute walk into the main town, and 10 minutes to nearest beach, but a drive to a good beach.
Fabulous Spring Sunshine break!
Had an amazing time at Villa Afrika from 31 March to 7 April. Perfect location and close to everything you need. We walked to the dunes (4 hrs round the coast with nice drink breaks) and shared a taxi back with another family. Frank was very helpful with all pre information and Alwin (our transfer driver) told us of a few local places to visit (sunset bar etc) Shame the pool is not heated as it was too cold for us to use but the hot tub was a welcome addition. A guest book or information folder, for passing on tips and places to visit, would also be a good addition as we had to work out where the rubbish went (just down the street) and how to use TV, hot tub etc. All in all a lovely base for a beautiful town and we will definitely be back again! Thanks Frank and Ellen
Frank was on hand with a friendly meet and greet, quick to respond to emails and phone throughout our stay and very helpful.
The villa is in a residential area within easy walking of shops, supermarket, bars and buses. It is fairly well equipped although the kitchen is very small. There are several outside sitting areas, all of which are overlooked in some way or another so if you're looking for complete privacy this might not suit. It is also opposite a busy skateboard park which is great if you have kids but not if you are seeking peace and quiet in the evenings. There were also workmen working on a neighbouring property when we were there, creating some noise, which is often a risk in a built up area.
Its name, Villa Afrika, gives away the theme of the decor which can be slightly oppressive unless you're into that type of thing. The bed was comfortable but everything, including the bed linen, could really do with an update. There were good quality new towels. The outdoor furniture is obviously affected by the sand in the air and would benefit from a deep clean, decoration and new covers. The pool is smallish but well maintained and enough for a cooling dip. Correlejo is a fairly relaxed and friendly area and the villa is an easy flat walk to the beach and within walking distance of the more built up areas with a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants if sought.
Not what we was expecting
there was things listed that was not there DVD PLAYER VIDEO GAMES
And there was a broken window it would not close a broken patio door and a loose banister on the stairs.
and we still have not received our deposit back for no damage / breakages
We, two couples, stayed for a week at Villa Afrika in April. The Villa was like a Tardis and there was plenty of room for us not to be under each others feet. Apart from the pool area there were a further three terraces to enjoy so we were never short of somewhere to relax! From our first enquiry, until we left, Frank and Ellen, the owners, were very friendly, and helpful, promptly responding to our e-mails and questions. Frank was at the Villa to give us a tour and further information on Corralejo when we arrived, which was much appreciated. The Villa is a five minute walk from the Campanario Centre where there was a large Dino Supermarket and plenty of bars and restaurants so you don't have to go far in order to shop, eat and drink! There is also a market held in the centre two, or three, times a week and there were some lovely artisan wares to be found. The walk into Corralejo itself took around ten minutes where you could find everything you could want! Galera Beach for Paella Marisco on Sunday lunch-time is a must, especially with a jug, or two, of Sangria, along with a DJ playing chill-out music! We would definitely recommend Villa Afrika and hope to return in the future.
