Why Barbara Russell chose Arizona

I live on the property half the year. It is peaceful and yet close to amenities of Wickenburg and Surprise. It is nice to share with others who want to experience the delights of living on l small acreage in a beautiful desert setting

What makes this house unique

Walk out into pristine Sonoran Desert open range, enjoy Saquaro Cactus and a lot of birds and wildlife. Foothill views all around. Hiking and Jeep trials into public land can be accessed from the property. We have dark night skies for star gazers.

Relaxing Desert Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Barbara's casita a few times before, so knew we'd love our visit again. The casita is the right size for a couple, and away from the bustle of a big city. We enjoyed bird watching every morning from the kitchen window (lots of Gambel's Quail strutting around on the ground, and a variety of other birds at the feeders.) We drove the scenic Castle Mt. Hot Springs Drive, saw lots of animals and beautiful mountain vistas. The nearby town of Wickenburg boasts a top-notch art museum and many shops and restaurants. We re-visited the Hassayampa River Preserve with its beautiful shaded trails, once with a knowledgable guide. It's only a short walk to the desert from the casita and neighborhood, and every evening we had a "happy hour", sitting on our private patio watching the glorious colors of the sunset. At night, if there's no full moon, you can see stars you never see in a big city. We enjoyed our stay very much, and always look forward to Barbara's hospitality.

A Significant Problem

  • 3 of 5

Stayed at this casita while in the Wickenburg area doing some photography. Nice quiet place that is nicely decorated and clean. I arrived on a cloudy and cool day, followed by another that was not very hot. However, on the third day the weather was probably more typical of the AZ desert and it was hot. I could find no themostat or any evidence of air conditioning. I did find a note in the closet saying the heat was controlled from the main unit next door so if I was cold there was a space heater. No reference to air conditioning but since I was so hot (and could not sleep), I called the cell # which was provided but got no answer. I would think that any nice place in the Arizona desert would have air conditioning and that the method of setting the temperature would be clear.

Wow, great location and very relaxing.

I stayed here recently for three evenings and I enjoyed every minute of my stay.

We loved the beautiful location and easy access to both Wickenburg and the mountain / desert trails. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway with a country atmosphere .

Bill and Diane

This guest house was spotlessly clean and well appointed. There is a lovely yard with many more trees and plants than in the average Arizona garden. The only thing we missed was not having a couch for watching TV. We have a dog and appreciated the dog friendly environment, with nearby trails into the desert. The owner has dogs, and farm animals and was very knowledgable about local activities and things we should know for dog walking.

The location is 20 miles from the baseball stadium in Surprise and we attended several ball games there. It was so fast and easy to get there, much better than driving from some part of Phoenix. There was no traffic and we were there, parked and in our seats in about 25 minutes.

We would highly recommend the casita to baseball lovers and anyone wanting a quiet location out of town.

Beautiful desert setting and accomidation

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the private, clean, tastefully decorated casita. It was the perfect location to start a new daily adventure, and a comfy home to come back to at the end of the day. You are right on the most scenic desert/mountain No. Castle Hot Springs Road. Minutes from the charming historic town of Wickenburg (restaurants, great Western museum, shopping), hikes, and day trips to Phoenix, Prescott. Much to explore on the desert within walking distance from the casita, too. Watched beautiful sunsets while relaxing on the patio. Also, the stars at night are amazing!!
