We were looking for a private place with a pool in central PA. Awesome pool. Great pool house shower/bathroom combo. Plenty of space in the house for the 7 of us.
We enjoyed our stay. Very clean, comfortable and private. My daughter especially enjoyed the pool. It was too chilly for me due to overcast skies but I was able to relax in the gazebo and watch her enjoy her first swim of the summer. Janice was very sweet to give us a personal tour of the home at check in. Only recommendation would be to put some lounge chairs on the pool deck.
Always enjoy our stay & always very happy with the hospitality extended to us by the owners!
wonderful house lots of room
We rented this house for our out of town guest it was perfect lots of bedrooms and good space for visiting with friends and family
We had a group of eight for a winter-time weekend getaway. The beds were comfortable. The quality of the linens was good. Large living room area.
The village of Mechanicsburg is 30 minutes from the Gettysburg battlefield and visitor center, less than 30 minutes from Hershey Park, 45 minutes from Lancaster County's Amish Country. These are all in different directions, so we are very centrally located. There is also a Civil War museum in Harrisburg, just across the river. Mechanicsburg got its name because that's where all the covered wagons stopped to be repaired and worked on after they crossed the Susquehanna River heading west. It has the distinction of being the point of northernmost penetration of the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Other area attractions include Indian Echo Caverns, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park (fabulous for children!), Dutch Wonderland, IMAX theater and Harsco Science Center, and outstanding outlet shopping in Lancaster, Gettysburg, and Hershey. Enjoy the Appalachian Trail and other great wilderness hiking/biking trails, fishing, kayaking and tubing on the Susquehanna River and Yellow Breeches Creek minutes away.
My husband, two children, and I have lived in Mechanicsburg, an historic village just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, PA, for 30 years. Dave is a retired executive director of a statewide organization, and I am a retired professor at our local community college. For a number of years, we lived in this home, where our children walked to the local schools, and Dave and I volunteered in numerous capacities in the community. Our children are now grown and live out of state, and Dave and I spend much of our time at our river cottage just about a 30 minute drive from the house. I enjoy gardening, and often I will be the person stopping by to water the flowers and potted palms and check on the pool during the summer. We will do our best to give you outstanding service because we truly consider you our 'guests' in every sense of the word.
Janice purchased this House in 2000
Why Janice chose Mechanicsburg
We chose this property to live and raise our children because it is a safe area with good schools and convenient access to shopping and cultural attractions. We have easy access to major Interstate highways and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. With our son and daughter entering their teen years at the time, we also wanted a home that would be a 'teen magnet' to draw our children and their friends to our home to hang out. With the pool, outdoor kitchen and bath, and other outdoor amenities, as well as the layout of the house which is great for entertaining, our home became the base for the track team social events, sleep overs, and pre-prom dinners poolside. The home was a favorite of the church youth group, and we enjoyed hosting cookouts and family reunions there as well. For the same reasons, we know our guests will find this home a wonderful spot for a vacation in central Pennsylvania. The only 'drawback' you'll find is that you won't want to leave the house!
