A peculiar house

  • 3 of 5

This is quit an ascetic house. There’s furniture and sofas are comfortable. Moreover it has the atmosphere of a scouting camp more than a family home. In contrast to other Swiss chalets there’s nothing. No books or decoration. No storage space in living room. No yoghurt bowls but a lot of plates, glasses and coffee cups and lots of cutlery. Not even a dinner-tray. A modern kitchen but not a single hook to hang your kitchen towels. Pans that give you dirty black hands from the handles.

There’s a vacuum cleaner but no buckets, mop, detergents of any kind. Customers are not allowed to leave anything behind which on the other hand makes that in this chalet you can actually store your groceries in the kitchen. The absence of a snow shovel in the Swiss alps was unacceptable to us. They however brought it the same day that we complained so that is good service.

It is probably an old barn which is converted by someone without building skills. Nothing is levelled so it was as walking on a ship. Ceiling height is 1.90-2.00 m. Bathroom 1.85 m and I am 1.62 m tall but could not stand up under the shower. The doorway to the living room is just 1,73 high.

But we did like the location very much. Also it has a lot of privacy. Majority of bedrooms are very big. Just the living room would be a bit small for 10 people.

Nevertheless we really liked it in the winter. The hallway is very big to store snowboots & jackets. It’s on a perfect location for our interests and needs. The view on Sion is beautiful and it has a lot of privacy. The balconies would be really lovely if not also filled with huge tables and lots of Spartan wooden chairs. No bbq to be found either.

However we would never rent it in the summer. The garden chairs are very ascetic too. The garden is left to nature as they call it, which just means that no one takes the effort to cut the grass. We have seen people sitting there in knee high grass on strait up chairs. Very uncomfortable. The picture with the sunbeds and the cutted grass is how we have never seen this chalet in the past years when we regularly drove by it.

But if only they would turn this into a dog friendly house by surrounding it with a 1.50 m high fence without holes so no small dogs can escape either. Than we would stay here 3 times a year. No matter the rest. It is ideal for dog holidays and it would be just the second chalet with a fenced garden for dogs in the entire Wallis. That would be a gap in the market I know from experience
