About Jarek Mika

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

Why Jarek Mika chose Washington DC

With metro, grocery store, restaurants, Target, Tivoli Theater, Starbucks and many restaurants, we love the convenience of our unit. There is no need for a car when staying with us and we hope you enjoy our location as much as we enjoy living here.

Not too impressed.

  • 3 of 5

The area seems to be up and coming but still a little scary venturing out at night. We had issues with water not draining properly and a toilet not working. It took a couple of days to get this corrected. I'm not sure why but the unit had an awful smell, especially in the kitchen and main floor bath. Since we were not in the unit much of the time, we made do. For the money, we were expecting more.

Owner's Response: Dear Jen - Thank you for your feedback although, I must admit, that we all are sad to hear that you experienced displeasure while staying in our unit and at the same time, never contacted us about it. We are sad that you were not impressed although our goal is to provide comfortable accommodation in a hip area, so perhaps impressing you was not our goal. As far as the smell goes, we are at a loss as there is nothing smelly in the unit. We found nothing and the unit is brand spanking new, so not sure what smell you experienced. As far as the neighborhood goes. Columbia Heights is the hottest neighborhood in Washington DC. There are amazing restaurants one block from the house such as Bad Saint (the top restaurant in DC), but it ain't Kansas. So, if you expected rural experience while staying downtown DC, we are sorry but that is not what we provide in this location. The city is busy, diverse and loud and while our unit is located on a quiet residential street, we don't hide the fact that downtown DC may feel different from what you are used to. We love our neighborhood, but can't guarantee that you will enjoy it as much as we do. Nevertheless, we would have appreciated an e-mail or phone call about any issues you may have experienced, which we didn't. Jarek

Great Apartment, Interesting Locale

  • 4 of 5

The property is as advertised, very comfortable and well appointed... modern and very convenient for shops, restaurants and metro. Lots of fun restaurants on 11th, very trendy... The owners were very responsive when we had a problem with the cable.... excellent service, great place, we would recommend this property.

Absolutely beautiful house in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We all loved the house! It housed our group very well with all the comforts and privacy of home. 5 adults shared the upstairs bedrooms while the 3 kids slumber partied in the living room's convertible bed. Very comfortable and we all had enough space. I will certainly recommend this house for groups and families. I look forward to staying here again on another trip to DC.

Having the kitchen was great and we really enjoyed cooking breakfasts and dinners before and after full, long days of sight seeing. Having a large dining area was great for us to share meals together. There were enough bathrooms for each family to have their own which made our our getting ready for the day or bed very efficient. We found parking in front or around the corner and on the weekend you do not need a permit for parking. The house is within very close walking distance of a grocery store and shopping center. As well as, close to new and older restaurants and cafes.

The neighborhood has been revitalized and gentrified. You can see the lines/streets where the previous inhabitants and new transplants merge. I love urban environments and the reality of development and urban planning. I didn't have enough time to spend in the neighborhood to learn more of its history.

The experience was great all around and we all loved it!

A great DC pick!

  • 5 of 5

8 of us loved this DC home! It was our first family vacation in this area. We were close to shopping and groceries, downtown sightseeing and great restaurants. We had all the amenities we needed and even found parking for two cars within a block each night. We definitely recommend staying here!

Fantastic Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

It is great to stay in DC but not be right in DC the stores are all within a block or two of this wonderful home. We got our Metro passes at the airport and went right to the home with out any transfers and it was so easy getting around on the Metro and it is just minutes to everything on the Metro.

the owners responded quickly to my questions before I arrived and were very helpful with tons of information about DC.

Thanks again for a wonderful stay.
