About Jonathan Rick

Hello, I'm a 65 year old snowbird spending 6 months in Ft. Lauderdale & traveling and 6 months in the Berkshires. I love South Egremont. Lots of beauty and really close to everything. I love to cook so my kitchen is well outfitted. I also will cater meals if you like. If you like to walk or hike this is the place for you and yet we are very close to Great Barrington. The view from this property is outstanding and setting is magical!

Jonathan Rick purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jonathan Rick chose Berkshires

I have lived in the Berkshires since 1973 and before that I grew up in Sharon, CT just over the border line into CT. I love this area the natural beauty and the amazing amount of attractions available here.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace & quiet & lots of nature.

Iconic Berkshire experience

A friend and I found this cabin to be even better than the accurate description in the listing. Yes, the cabin is vintage-but-updated with a great view and location. But it is also a space, inside and out, with the perfect ambience for a visitor who seeks comfort and beauty in the midst of glorious hills and woods. We weren't here to cook, but the kitchen is one where good cooking happens, so chefs will love it. The screen porch was our hangout when at home; probably the stone fireplace would be the centerpiece in winter. Jonathan is a thoughtful and skillful host. We recommend it most enthusiastically!

Peaceful, rustic and private cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very pleasant and fully stocked to enjoy an extended stay whether you are spending all day in the cabin or venturing out to see the great sights, sounds and people of the berkshires. It's rustic, but that's the charm of the place for sure. All appliances worked fine and the fireplace was excellent! John was extremely helpful as we mapped out our potential tourist activities. Of course we couldn't do them all, but certainly enjoyed those we did pursue.

The color change of the leaves was beautiful. The deer and bobcats in the area around the cabin and the rustling of the wind and cool breeze out on the screened deck made for an "exactly what the doctor ordered" vacation!

Our Summer Sojourn in the Beautiful Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from seven weeks in this wonderful cabin in southern Berkshire County. The cabin is marvelous - with views that go on forever and a feeling of serenity that would be hard to equal anywhere. (This was our third visit) During the winter Jonathan made renovations that only serve to amplify the cabin's charm - raised ceilings in what we have come to think of as "our" bedroom with a skylight that let the moonlight come through - a cathedral ceiling likewise in the kitchen - a second window in the kitchen which brought the mountains even closer - and an outdoor shower (which I enjoyed every day!). The cabin's location, its charm, its place above the trees, its 30 mile views - its peace - all are wonderful. Thank you Jonathan for a wonderful summer. (ps our Lab "Sweet Loretta" had a wonderful time too and she sends her thanks as well!)

Just spent 3 wonderful days in the Berkshires. The cabin was the best part of the trip. Clean, well stocked, comfortable. The view was fabulous and the setting was quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend this cabin.

An absolutely wonderful retreat in the beautiful Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We have just finished our second visit to Jonathan Rick's cabin in South Egremont. It is always sad to leave this romantic place. But we know we are coming back next summer for an extended stay. And that makes all the difference. The cabin is a perfect combination of cozy charm, proper amenities, spectacular views, the feeling of quiet seclusion, and a location that puts its lucky inhabitants just minutes away from many of the cultural and natural treasures the Berkshires have to offer. The town of South Egremont is comfortable and convenient - with shops and good restaurants. Our favorite is the Old Mill for dinner and Mom's Cafe (with "brookside dining") for breakfast or lunch. Great Barrington is a bustling place - about 10 minutes down the road. Make sure a stop a Guido's is on your list! And of course Lenox, Stockbridge, Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, the Clark in Williamstown, the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, Berkshire Theater Festival. Well, you get the idea. The cabin itself, with its big stone fireplace, wide plank floors and comfortable furnishings is a gem. And the frozen martini glasses waiting in the fridge have always made a great first impression. We recommend the cabin highly.
