We call this recently renovated luxury apartment Hale Kai, which is Hawaiian for 'Sea House.' It is fully furnished and has spectacular views of Rock Creek, which joins the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Relax out on your own large deck and watch the boating activity and wildlife in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Come by land or by sea -- we have boat slips available at our dock.
Enjoy spectacular sunrise views and go swimming off the end of our dock. You can also bring your kayak or canoe and explore the many unique coves and enjoy the unforgettable sights of Rock Creek. We have one canoe for our guests to use.
This is a second floor apartment that has its own entrance. The location is ideal - close to historic Annapolis and Baltimore, BWI and about an hour to Washington, DC (if you avoid rush hours). It is ideal for a family getaway, an anniversary, a sight seeing base of operations, or business related activities.
The apartment is not a B&B, it is a 'B' (we may add the other B later).
The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and a grill on your deck.
There are a few restaurants within walking distance and many more restaurants and supermarkets close by. Some restaurants offer home delivery (menus provided).

Sally's place was just perfect for 3 of us. The view and the sea breezes on the deck were delightful. We saw gorgeous sunrises, moonrises, blue herons and variety of boats coming and going. We even brought our own paddle boards and enjoyed the convenience of paddling right off the dock! While the bedrooms are small & cozy, the main living space (living room, dining room & kitchen) was actually larger than it looked in the photos and quite comfortable. The decks have been completely re-done since the original pictures were taken and have new horizontal cable/wire railings, which allow for great unobstructed views of the water. We appreciated Sally's care and little personal touches like fresh flowers in all the rooms, and staple pantry items like spices, tea, flour, olive oil, etc. which made it easy to whip up a few meals. The couches and beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels, pillows, extra blankets, etc.
A few notes: The apartment is on the second floor, up an outside flight of stairs above Sally's living quarters. Nevertheless, the separate entrance and private space made it seem like our own. The neighborhood is a mixed bag of smaller private homes and nicer waterfront properties, of which Sally's was a pleasant surprise. There's a brand new house next door (yet to be occupied as of Sept 2016), and another two houses scheduled for construction on the remaining property at the end of the road.
Overall this was a sweet home-away-from home and we would totally choose this place again if we're in the area!
Beautiful views, all the comforts of home and a wonderful, welcoming hostess! The location is perfect and the setting is absolutely enchanting...very private feeling because of the trees. We loved it. Didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back. Wish I lived there!
What a lovely place- It is exactly as the pictures describe- comfortable- beautiful view- Hale Kai is a dream. Sally is responsive- kind- and the personal touches made it a wonderful experience. I want to live there....... Thank you.
Our family had a plebe this year at USNA and we were looking for a place to call home for visits and ballgames. Hale Kai is that place. Everything we needed was in the apartment and you couldn't ask for a better host. Sally accommodated our schedule changes and minor emergencies with a smile. We plan to be there often!
My wife and I stayed here for the entire month of June 2015.
Location - centrally located with convenient access to mass transportation. The roads around the Baltimore/DC area can be very congested, however, in exploring the area, we were able to utilize the various means of mass transit (light rail, MARC trains, & bus) to visit Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and other local neighborhoods as well as Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. We did drive our vehicle to St. Michaels, a charming village on the Eastern Shore.
View - the view from the large deck of Rock Creek and the many boats was wonderful.
Apartment – very spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped.
Host – Sally was very gracious, cordial, and helpful.
The not so good:
Clearing and site preparation of the heavily-wooded property adjacent to the apartment coincided with our arrival. Three homes and a garage/apartment will be constructed. For the entire month, the skid steer loaders were clearing brush and debris from the lot, men with chain saws were felling trees, a front-end loader was improving the shoreline, while dump trucks delivered rip-rap and fill dirt. Three days before our departure, a backhoe began digging the footings, followed by concrete trucks and pumpers.
Although, weather-permitting, we were often away seeing the sights, there was much time spent at the apartment. While there, the tranquility of the waterfront location, sitting on the deck and enjoying the view were interrupted by the construction activity and noise.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this situation. Anyone considering renting during the construction period will have to decide if this will detract from their enjoyment of this, otherwise, nice rental.
Enjoyed our family visit to the Chesapeake Bay area thanks to this relaxing retreat. Easy drive to DC, Annapolis, and the BWI airport. Explored the local waters in the provided canoe. Great view from the deck, LR, and master BR. Very roomy. Appreciated the personal touches like fresh flowers. We have always had good experiences with VRBO but I have to say this was the cleanest/neatest place we've rented!
