Tucked into the Dovey Forest with no neighbouring properties and sitting in 3 acres of landscaped gardens, waterfalls and ponds Maesywerngoch is an idyllic destination in itself.

'We have just completed a week's stay at this beautiful house and felt truly privileged to have been allowed there with our three labradors. We wanted complete seclusion and couldn't have asked for better, as we climbed the hill to the house.' Claire, February 2014.

A wall of glass doors in both the old barn and dining room provide stunning views of the forest and gardens. Star gazing on a clear night is breathtaking with no light pollution to dull your senses. Enjoy bird watching? The bird tables outside the dining room provide hours of entertainment watching the many varieties of birds including woodpeckers, finches and tits.

MAESYWERNGOCH IS A TRULY UNIQUE PROPERTY.

This 300 year old renovated Welsh Longhouse provides plenty of space for your party to spread out and enjoy the many amenities this house provides. Enjoy the crisp white 100% cotton sheets and towels in our 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms as well as complimentary Duck Island bath and shower soap.

At Maesywerngoch we will supply you with all of the ingredients for an amazing holiday: wood burning stoves in each of our sitting rooms and free firewood. Free WiFi, two 46 in LED TV's with SKY HD, Pillar Box Red AGA, delicious fresh water from our own bore hole, card table and plenty of games and puzzles to keep everyone happy.

Maesywerngoch has been a favourite holiday location for friends and family for the last 40 years. We come here to relax and enjoy the quiet location, pottering in the local villages, enjoying the many walks directly from the front door, star gazing and cooking wonderful meals using Welsh products in our beautiful Pillar Box Red AGA.

Susan Harrison purchased this house in 1976

Why Susan Harrison chose Wales

This traditional Welsh longhouse has been passed down from one generation to the next.

What makes this house unique

We are in a rural location so enjoy the natural beauty. Walking is a favorite pastime here and there are many enjoyable walks from the front door. Picking blackberries and star gazing are just some of the relaxing activities to be enjoyed.

Excellent

Home was immaculate when we arrived. Warm and cosy. My grandchildren loved the garden, climbing trees and generally running around making as much noise as they liked without disturbing anyone.

The walks around were fantastic and with having two dogs soon wore them out.

Beautiful, quiet. Perfect for kids and adults

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Maesywenrgoch. We were a party of ten - three generations of a family, aged from two to seventy, and one dog - and there was more than enough space for us all. It is in the most beautiful and peaceful location. We could have been happy just exploring the gardens for a few days, as they are beautifully kept, and full of surprises - but happily there is also a lot to do in the area. We enjoyed going for walks on the footpaths nearby, and took some trips to the seaside and to local pubs and restaurants. The house was perfectly equipped, and the information provided about the house and its surroundings were much appreciated. Thank you to the hostess for all your help and guidance in the run up to the stay, and Terry for looking after us when we were there!

Great property. Spacious and beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

It was a really great property. It's really spacious, clean and comfortable. The weather was mixed when we were there so it was ideal as there's plenty of living spaces to enjoy when it rains, and a lovely garden and beautiful country walks surrounding the house when the sun did come out.

Susan was really responsive and both her and the house manager were very helpful - great value all round. Lots of good information was provided well in advance of the holiday. The only negative was booking via the VRBO HomeAWay website as it wasnt clear that they would take an additional booking fee, which I found frustrating.

I'd definitely recommend this house!

50th Birthday weekend with the family

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned after spending a long weekend at what I can only describe as the most amazing home. Our party consisted of 11 people, 7 adults and 4 children and the family pooch. The best way I can describe the stay is it was as if someone had opened the door and invited us to stay in their home, not a holiday let. The owners have thought of just about everything. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The lounges are large with plenty of comfy seating and the beds are big and very comfy. In fact the whole house is of a very high standard. It was a refreshing to be messaged by the owners informing us we didn't need to wait to 4 O'clock, which allowed us to make the most of the good weather and explore the gardens, which are also spectacular. I really can't say enough positive things about this house, from the drive up through the forest, to the card and banana cake delivered by the property caretaker, everything was just perfect! If you do want to go out for aa meal I would happily recommend theRiverside Hotel, we visited for Sunday Lunch, the menu was great, the food really tasty and really good value for money. I have no doubt that we will be planning our next visit and hopefully it will be in the near future......

Stunning house

  • 5 of 5

Myself and seven friends spent 4 nights in this beautiful house and had an amazing time. Although we are not as active as we used to be and could not enjoy all that the extensive grounds have to offer, we spent many hours watching the birds at the feeders. The house has everything you require from the comfortable lounges to the sumptuous bedrooms, always warm and welcoming, we will be back.

Holiday at Maesywerngoch, Nr. Machynlleth, Wales.

  • 5 of 5

We all had a wonderful week at Maesywerngoch, but before I list the many excellent features, I would like to emphasise the importance of knowing the directions to the house from the nearest village, Pennal, about three miles away. Unfortunately, we got very lost in this remote part of Montgomeryshire, finding ourselves suddenly on a treacherous narrow track in the middle of the forestry commission and unable to turn back for about a mile, which was very scary! The owner, Susan Harrison, had emailed the directions to us, as well as a great deal of information, leading up to our week's holiday, so it was our fault entirely that we missed these vital details. Make sure you know the way beforehand! Even the taxi driver got lost with other members of our family, but when all parties eventually arrived at the house, we all cheered loudly! After this, whenever we had guests visiting us, we met them in the village and escorted them up to the house.

Maesywerngoch is a welcoming and extremely spacious house with a lovely blend of old and ultra-modern features, and is the kind of house where you could stay for a month and still be discovering new and interesting aspects. We were there with our children and grandchildren and there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and chat. We enjoyed cooking together in the large kitchen, which was generously stocked with all the devices and utensils needed for a big family - we also loved the utility room with the extra big fridge! The three sitting rooms and six bedrooms were very luxurious and thoughtfully furnished, with plenty of bathrooms and toilets (soaps, towels and toilet rolls were provided); the whole house was spotlessly clean. The grounds are utterly stunning, with beautiful gardens and pathways to explore all around the property, as well as gorgeous views (no other buildings in sight!) and fascinating birdlife just outside the windows. There are impressive walks surrounding the house and beyond, and the coast is within easy driving distance. Market day at Machynlleth on Wednesdays is well worth a visit, and good to get there early... Also, for a great day out, I must mention the lovely seaside town of Aberystwyth, where I grew up!

Many thanks, from all of us, for a really special holiday at Maesywerngoch!

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you all had a lovely time at Maesywerngoch. I have only received this review from VRBO in April 2016 although I see that it was written in September 2015. Since your stay we have made every effort to ensure that all of our guests print out the directions to the house and also realize that SAT NAV will not work in the forest to our house. I also send an extra email to our guests a couple of days before to make sure they are prepared for the 10 minute journey from Pennal to the house Thank you for pointing this out to us. We hope to welcome your party again to Maesywerngoch.
