House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
I am a native Floridian and have come to Marathon for 20 years to dive. I have owned vacation rentals since 2001 to have a place to boat and dive.
Owner purchased this House in 2003
Why Owner chose Marathon
I have vacationed in Marathon for 30 years staying in hotels. I decided to buy my first vacation home in 2001. Having a kitchen and barbeque grill to prepare fresh catch is so valuable. Also, having private dockage is a must. The ability to leave gear on the boat is such a plus and so nice not paying a daily dockage fee at a hotel.
What makes this House unique
The home is on open water, so fishing is good. Snapper are plentiful and a grouper head on the line at dusk can catch a shark. Snorkeling for lobster at slack tide in the nearby seawalls can produce dinner. Boats available for rent. Inquire with owner.
Minimum age of primary renter:25
Three cars and one trailer permitted on property. No trailers with guides permitted in the carport.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Another great vacation
Another great vacation for us in our "home away from home." As always the home was our home base for fun in the sun. Since our last trip, the home has a new roof and updated dock. The linens and furnishings are always kept in top notch shape. The owners have also added large flat screen TVs in all the rooms.
We love this home because of the boating access to the gulf and ocean. You are on the gulf, and the Vaca Cut bridge is only a few hundred feet away. The kids also love to fish off the dock. So much action!
Thank you for everything and we will see you on our next trip!
Great place for a family vacation
We booked this home for the week school let out. We wanted a family vacation in a home that was close to everything, and this did not disappoint. We found this home to be close to restaurants and right across Vaca Cut from the local aquarium (highly recommended!)
The home was spacious and clean. It has a bait freezer in the laundry area, which is convenient. New TV's in all the rooms. The home was tidy and everything we expected.
Thank you Cindy, we will definitely be back next year!
Great place to stay and very clean!
Had a great time for memorial weekend, the property was as expected. Will definitely stay again
Not wort the money
It’s taken us a long time to write a review for this place as it is difficult to know how to pitch it. There’s a lot of positives and we had a great time there…but it was despite a lot being wrong. The only factor that has pushed us to write a review is the price going up and at the current price it really isn’t worth the money.
The great thing about the house is its location. Central Marathon, only a couple of minutes off of highway 1. Most importantly right on Vaca cut, the gulf is a couple of minutes one way and the Atlantic a few minutes the other way. Mullet come into the bay in a morning and you can cast net a few for bait, without having to leave the house. Tarpon patrol in front of the area and can be seen smashing mullet around every dusk. The fishing is great from the end of the dock- Snappers, jacks, sharks are all easily catchable. I hooked 2 monsters at dusk on livebaits that took 150 yards of line with 100lb braid and a locked down clutch. So as an angler and boater- it’s got everything you need!
However the accommodation really lets it down. Everything is broken or dilapidated and just plain dirty. The pool is tiny (Which we knew before we traveled). The shelves are full of dusty old rubbish and the house is decorated with junk furniture. It’s not the kind of thing that will spoil your holiday (if you don’t let it)- but at this price point it really isn’t good enough.
You need to be aware of the docking situation too. There is only 1 position where the boat is safely moored and it involves coming off of vaca cut into the little bay and then turning the boat around and sliding it in between the posts. I would advise anyone who is not competent with boats to think very carefully about this. There’s a lot of current and it’s a very small space. We docked a twin engine 30 foot contender in there- so it’s possible if you have a lot of experience with boats and a crew to help rope it up.
It’s a place with great potential- but its beat up and isn’t worth the money.
The property was clean and mostly as shown on Vrbo.
Work was being done on the property (not during our stay) which is understandable but is in need of further cleanup and maintenance on the outside of the home. Our overall experience was fair and would return if improvements were made. The highlight of the stay was the manatees that visited at the dock was awesome.
The roof was supposed to be replaced in November. Unfortunately the roof is still not finished. The house is water proof but the soffit and a little more work needs to be finished. I make sure they have my schedule so no work is performed while renters are there. Marathon buildings suffered a lot of roof damage after the last hurricane and the companies work schedules are still backed up.
Great views, great fishing, clean home
Great place to stay in Marathon! We first dropped our boat off at the public ramp about 1/2 mile away. We have a 31' boat and the ramp was fine to launch it. We motored to the home in Vaca Cut. Amazing location! The tarpon were rolling at about 5pm when we arrived.
We found everything to be in perfect working order and ready to go. Plenty of linens and towels. We liked the split floor plan. We put the little ones in the back bedroom and they loved it. Extra fridge/freezer for bait. Plenty of seating at multiple dining room tables.
We were able to walk to captain hooks for live bait. That walk across Vaca Cut when the water is running is so cool. We will definitely return next year.
We are happy you enjoyed your stay and look forward to you vacationing again with us next year.
