Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Full luxury in breathtaking natural beauty. Remote and private. So quiet you can hear your heart beat. At night, no city lights disturb your view of the star-studded sky.

From this 1,475 square foot Casita, you'll enjoy panoramic 360-degree views: Abiquiu Lake, miles of mesas, rolling hills, and the magnificent red cliffs surrounding the famous Ghost Ranch. To the south you'll see the 10,000-foot mountain known as El Pedernal, which Georgia O'Keefe made famous in her paintings, along with much of the near landscape.

Our Casita was built in 2008, and designed by a local architect in a southwestern yet modern style. It's fully furnished for comfort. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including a Bosch gas stove with heavy gauge grills for those who really love to cook.

Check out the Master bathroom: you can choose between a slate shower or a deep soaking tub to soothe your body after an invigorating hike in the nearby Jemez Mountains. Besides the 2 bedrooms with Queen beds, there is a queen bed sofa in the Great Room with spectacular views of the lake and Ghost ranch.

Why The Owner chose New Mexico

My wife and I have been visiting Northern New Mexico for almost 30 years. The skies, the red rocks, the mesas, the food, the locals, the hiking, the skiing…. are all so inviting. Finally, we decided that it was time to buy a place, not only to use as a getaway for ourselves, but for friends and family alike. We also want to introduce others to Abiquiu and Northern NM, so we’ve decided to make this a vacation getaway for you as well. We know you’ll be enchanted by NM as we have been.

Awe inspiring!

  • 5 of 5

As a British family, that has now spent several long summers visiting America, we try always to stay in rental homes rather than in hotels. We were always a little unsure of what the frequently-used word 'awesome' meant, but now we know. This house, perched on a bluff, overlooking Lake Abiquiu, with panoramic views, truly inspires 'awe'! In the evenings we were treated to lightning shows on several sides of the mountains circling us; every night we gazed at the stars, it could not have been more blissful.

It is a cosy house, cleverly but perfectly designed in a circle, with very comfortable amenities. If its privacy you want, look no further, and although another reviewer suggested stocking up on food before you arrive, we travelled about most days, and found the small shop in Abiquiu on the way home had plenty to suffice. Even the mile or two of un-tarred road leading up to the house wasn't a problem for us.

The owners were incredibly helpful before we arrived, and we are so grateful for all the communication with great tips and hints. We had a marvellous horseriding trek at Ghost Ranch, and on our way back from the amazing water pools at Ojo Caliente, pulled off the

road to watch a spectacular thunder storm with the biggest hailstones we have ever seen. As the sun glints off the lake and the colourful rocks around it, the view from the house could tranfix us for hours in the evenings!

We stayed at this house as a little piece of luxury before heading to the Sangre de Christo mountains as volunteers at the Philmont Scout Camp, and as geologists we would have happily spent many more days enjoying the beautiful scenery and bountiful rocks around Abiquiu. We would love to be able to come back here again one day!

Amazing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home is truly a gem! when you walk in and get the full panorama view from the semicircular windows it is incredible. Overlooks the Ghost Ranch and desert floor and Sangre De Cristo Mountains in the distance. The color and light change all day long. Even saw a cattle roundup down below the mesa! Its quiet and spectacular!

Spectacular views of Lake Abiquiu!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Larry and Laurie's home is absolutely perfect! We stayed for 1 week, and wished we could have stayed longer. The home had everything we needed, and the most enchanting views. It was also absolutely silent...only sounds from nature! highly recommend for anyone looking to vacation and explore the Santa Fe/Abiquiu area. Thank you Larry and Laurie for making our trip even more special!

Mesmerizing and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Vista de Lago was outstanding. The views are incredible. The colorful red rocks, the Abiquiu Lake and the majestic Pedernal mesa were all so easily visible from both inside and outside the house. The house is very comfortable. We loved the radiant heat system on the cooler nights. A wonderful place to relax. It is the quietest place I have ever stayed in.

We loved everything about it.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the remote location. Although we only stayed two nights we had a very starry night the first night and could see all kinds of constellations that are difficult to see near cities. Absolutely amazing views: color on the mesas and Abiquiu Lake in the distance was constantly changing. Great view of the Pedernal which Georgia O'Keeffe could see from her Ghost Ranch property. We had just seen some of her paintings of the Pedernal at her museum in Santa Fe. Everything was thought of for the comfort of guests. We found everything we needed. (One of our party was put off by the remote location and address not found with satellite navigation.) But we other two want to return when we have more time! Thank you!
