About Bob and Nancy Lanford

Bob retired as a forestry professor from Auburn University in 2001 and he and Nancy immediately started their western adventure in Philipsburg. Originally form South Carolina, the couple has lived in Georgia, New York, Oklahoma as well as Alabama. True southerners, but with a spirit of wander and have never found a place or people they did not love. They have two sons with wonderful families (7 grandchildren) who live in the South, but love to visit MT. Bob and Nancy travel South often in their RV to spend quality time with their families. Bob is an avid hunter and fisherman and Nancy is right there with him on every excursion. Nancy brings sanity to the couple and lovingly makes their home the most comfortable place to be as you will experience when you visit.

Bob and Nancy Lanford purchased this house in 2002

Why Bob and Nancy Lanford chose Montana

Having spent many years hunting in CO, the West was not completely new to Bob and Nancy. When Philipsburg was recommended by a friend, it reminded them of wonderful experiences in CO. After moving early in 2002, the couple fell in love with the people, community and everything else they found. They opened a bed and breakfast and ran it during the summer of 2002 but found not enough traffic to support an all year business. When the idea to put their home up for a vacation rental surfaced in 2009, it seemed like a great idea because of the bed and breakfast experience.

What makes this house unique

The name 'Cozy Home' is a perfect description of this little home that has evolved from a nineteenth century mining cabin in a very warm and comfortable place to take in the charm of Philipsburg. Expect to have a restful retreat from all the exciting activities available. While Philipsburg dining is superb, it is nice to have a fully functioning kitchen with an outside grill to prepare your own meals just the way you want them. While close to town, you are far enough away to have peace and quiet if that is your choosing. Staying at the Cozy Home in Philipsburg will be an unforgettable experience.

Cozy nice home to enjoy Philipsburg.

  • 4 of 5

Myself and several of my friends stayed here for the weekend. The house inside is very nice and clean with a cozy feel to it, with excellent amenities. The master bedroom sleeps two with a comfortable bed. The second bedroom has a decent bed, with a small (single) bed on top, best for a child. If you want to cook in, the kitchen is very nice and well stocked with everything you need. I would say it's about a mile walk to downtown P-burg. The roads aren't maked very well, so best to find it during the day time.

Cozy, convenient and well-supplied

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a ski trip to Discovery, with family from out-of-town. It was super convenient to the ski hill - took about 20 minutes to get there. We loved Philipsburg, too! Had a great lunch at the soda shop, and spent hours skating on the free outdoor rink, stocked with bins of skates to borrow!

The owners were tremendously easy to work with, even accommodated a date change after the reservation had been made. Accessing the property was very simple. The house is incredibly well-stocked with all the kitchen accessories and linens you could need. At check-out we were told to basically take out the trash and leave everything else to them! It was great. The house itself is quite cozy and comfortable with nice views to town and across the valley. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable and roomy.

A word of advice if you are planning to sleep seven in this house. One of the couches is a loveseat, too short for the 10-year-old in our group, so would only accommodate a small child. The second bedroom - which is part of a small home office - is a queen bed with a single bunk overhang. To truly sleep seven you would need to have a particular group of people. That being said, we slept six pretty comfortably. Just brought the single mattress into the living room and the kids slept there, with couples in each of the bedrooms.

I would recommend this place for its coziness, convenience, price, ambience and owners.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind review. Glad you had a fun stay. Sorry for not better explaining about the couches but sounds like you figured out a solution. We like our guests to use our home as they would at their own place. Noticed that you are from Columbia, SC. Nancy and I are South Carolinians too. I'm from Woodruff and graduated a couple of times from Clemson and Nancy was from Walhalla and graduated from Columbia College. Hope you come back and visit us again. Thanks for your stay, Bob and Nancy

Small Town Warmth

  • 4 of 5

The house was cozy. Tidy. Fully stocked with dishes, utensils and pots & pans (maybe a thermometer for the oven would be nice). It is everything it says it is. The towels were cozy and very white!

Fun with friends

  • 5 of 5

Bob and Nancy, Thank you for a wonderful weekend in your cozy home. We had a fantastic time with our friends from Butte and were so comfortable in your well-stocked, cute home. Thank you also for allowing our dog to stay, that made the trip possible for us and she felt right at home. We skied Discovery 2 days, skated in Philipsburg both nights and visited Fairmont Hot Springs on our way back home. Great weekend, hope to do it again sometime. Thanks again!

Nice accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this place for a week and a half. It was small and cozy but spacious. The primary room is a kitchen and living room all in one with space for a small dining table. The bedrooms were the right size for a VRBO. There's a porch/deck and plenty of parking. It's just what we needed for a ski vacation - back and forth to Disco - and a quick trip to Pburg. It's a bit of a walk ( .5 miles) to town in the winter but I could see easily making the trek regularly in the summer months.
