Guestbook comments from the owner

GREAT FOR REUNIONS" Our 3 families rented the Adele, CJ and Kristen houses this summer. The houses are all close walking distance together so that the kids were able to move back and forth among the houses without us worrying on their whereabouts. The houses were clean, neat and nicely furnished with gorgeous views of the lake and swim docks. Surprisingly, nightcaps on the Adele house back deck were bug free (albeit, on one night, one lone duck on the water quacked looking for its mate). Although it seemed remote (with a dirt road access to discourage speedy traffic) , the houses are within ten minutes drive to the sleepy town of Schroon where you can shop for groceries or get homecooking from Pitkins Restaurant (best soups and pies ever!) .Paradox Lake is 1 and a half hours to Lake Placid and 40 mins. drive to Lake George and the outlets (Exit 20). The men had their fishing , the kids had their tubing and the women had their shopping . It was the best of all worlds for our group and a truly memorable summer in beautiful Paradox Lake (best kept secret in the "Dacks") Thank you John and Carol Flynn.

Adele cottage will always hold special memories

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I and our two 4-legged girls spent a wonderful week at John and Carol's Adele cottage. The setting is quiet and has a feeling of remoteness even though it sits next to another cottage also owned by John and Carol. Our week provided perfect weather and lots of fun swimming just off the shore of Adele. The water is so clear and beautiful and a swim raft provides a good 'destination'. There is very little traffic noise to interrupt Mother Nature's wild chatter and walking, jogging, biking is very good here. I saw a bald eagle fly the entire length of the lake just about eye level with the great room where I was standing. I was breathless. We spent most of our indoor time on the upper floor of the cottage which provides ample space with a huge master bedroom and good sized bath with lots of counter space. Kitchen is also good size and well-equipped. We thank John and Carol for being so generous with their pet policy. That means everything to us - we hardly ever travel without our companions.

Paradox Lake Rentals from John and Carol

  • 5 of 5

The Adele house was perfect for our family getaway this past summer 2016. My husband and I, our daughter and son in law, their three children, and our combined three dachshunds had a blast! The LAKE is amazing - it was the centerpiece of our vacation. The house was perfect - two levels for privacy and quiet for the little ones. We rented a Pontoon boat from the Schroon Lake marina, and enjoyed seven days of boating, swimming, relaxing and of course FISHING! The weather was in the 90's but evenings were breezy, cool and comfortable. John and Carol Flynn are great hosts and we never wanted for anything while we were there. We also hear exciting news about the construction of a top floor deck to the Adele House, as well as other renovations to make our next trip even more comfortable. We are already booked for next year!

Relaxing piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I traveled with my husband, our son and his fiance, and our old dog. Getting to this house was a breeze. Directions were great and spot on. John and Carol were very accommodating with a few requests that we had and also email you back right away. We didnt realize that this house was on a cliff, and that we would have to unload our whole truck down a flight of stairs, but I'll tell you, It was totally worth it! The view alone, when you walk in the front door was breath taking. Just what we needed. This house was set up perfectly so my son had his own quarters downstairs with a full bathroom and we had the main floor bedroom with our own bathroom also. Kitchen was fully stocked with anything you need to cook, and I love to cook! The patio is off the downstairs quarters, so to get to it, you must go around the side of house or down a flight of stairs off dining room. We love to eat outside, as we did this every night, but it got a little tiring bringing all the food and condiments up and down the stairs. We had brought a cooler with us so we just kept all the stuff in there. Even drinks. Maybe a refrigerator in the room near the patio would be helpful. That is the only suggestion I have for this house. We had a few friends come and spend a few nights also. There are 2 twin beds on the third floor (attic). While poking around up there we noticed a whole house fan in the window. What a greattttt feature! We had that running the whole week and boy did it keep the house cool every day. There are no air conditioners in this house. That made me nervous due to my hot flashes (menopause lol). But the bedrooms both had ceiling fans and the breeze that comes off the lake is amazing! We also found a box fan downstairs that we used out on the patio during the day for a breeze and at night to keep the bugs away. Worked like a charm. The dock is great for fishing, which is what my family did...every minute of every day! The fish were biting right off the dock. We rented a little row boat with a Motor from Schroon Marina and my family went out often to fish. They brought back enough fish for dinner a few nights. I will definitely be calling John and Carol again to rent this house. Thanks for lending us your beautiful piece of serenity for a week and helping us clear our minds of all the hustle and bustle we all call life.

Charming Paradox Lake waterfront home

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I stayed at 'Adele' from Sept. 4 - 12. We brought our boat and dog in tow. We arrived by boat (launch is a few miles south of house but easy to get to and from) and by truck and trailer to find the home in perfectly clean and tidy condition. Boat dock and depth was sufficient for our inboard ski boat. The dock width is a little narrow for anything more than walking on i.e. any chairs on it make it a bit precarious to move around but we threw down our towels for any sitting or laying around. The deck area above is plenty big enough for a large family to enjoy. Wire fencing along the deck's perimeter keeps the kids in check (if you have any) but for us was big distraction from the overall ambience of the lake view. Picnic table was nice to sit at for dinner. There are a few adirondack chairs as well. Indoors, there is ample living room space to sit around and enjoy the lake view. All of our time was spent outdoors unless it rained which was only one day. Both bedrooms have the same nice view facing the lake. Bed was comfortable. Bring your own sheets, towels etc. Linens or towels are not provided despite the website homepage indicating they were provided. Kitchen was good size for the two of us. But there is no direct access to the deck below. You have to walk to stairs in middle of house to get down to deck below so bring your cooler.

Kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes however note to bring your own everything else: coffee filters, dish soap, dish towels and dishwasher liquid/soap and these are not provided. Any paper products, i.e. tissues, TP, paper towels, napkins, foil wrap, baggies etc. are also not supplied (or leftover from previous renters). Paradox Lake is beautiful, picturesque clean and quiet. If you are looking for a peaceful, clean lake and don't mind bringing your own everything vacation, then this is a great choice.

Outstanding Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were interested in taking a vacation with our 8 month old son and we invited both sets of grandparents. The home was big enough for all of us. The view is breathtaking and the home was clean and appointed with everything we needed. We prepared big meals every night in the kitchen and on the grill. The lake is beautiful and very peaceful. We fished, kayaked, played quite a few games of pool, and took countless pictures to capture all the wonderful memories. Our dog was even in on the fun and had a great time swimming. I would highly recommend this property. I returned home feeling completely refreshed!
