Simply stunning
There is no question, Tamarind House is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Very spacious and full of character and charm. It felt a little like we were "living the dream". All comms from Nancy were good and the staff were friendly and helpful. For example, one morning the fire alarm in one of the bedrooms started faulting at 5am. Rather than call for help immediately we left it a while and then rang Paul Joseph for help. He was there in 2 minutes. All sorted. The pool area is fantastic under the stars and very clean, as is the whole accommodation. A couple of things to remember when visiting Tamarind:
1. A 4WD is a must. We were led astray a little by SIXT and led to believe that our car was AWD (Hyundai Creta). It wasn't. After a bout of rain were not able to get up the hill which leads to the property (out of Soufriere) and had to abandon the car and walk home in the dark and rain. Not great. The road to the property is not for the faint hearted. I know many people put this, but really, it is a bit of a test (as are a lot of the roads in St. Lucia). A couple of local taxi drivers, who knew the road well, tried to get our car up the hill. Even they could not manage it. Don't mess about, get a 4WD.
2. Bugs. Bugs.........ohhhh.......bugs. We were all eaten alive. The beds have nets around them which do help but all the doors in the house are slatted so mosquitoes very easily enter from the outside world big gangs!!!! I think maybe some bug netting curtains to pull over all the exterior doorways may help. Sitting in the evening with the lights on was a "no no" as it beckoned all kinds in from the woods!! After a couple of days we got used to it but it was a little testing.
3. Anse Chastanet and Anse Marmin beachs (both walking distance) are fantastic.
4. Gros Piton trail walk - I'm reasonably fit. It's a killer!! More of an SAS survival course than a hike.........give it a go. I got half way and then threw the towel in as it was roasting hot (we set off at 8am). The rest of the family managed to get to the top thus I was the brunt of a few jokes for the next 2 days!
All in all, we had a great stay at a really beautiful and well maintained Tamarind House. Be in no doubt, it's worth a trip. Simply stunning.
