Aloha and welcome to Mika Mizu, serenity in Hilo. Here you will experience a unique and memorable Hawaiian vacation. Mika Mizu is a spacious, but cozy one bedroom cottage, all on one level, no steps! This beautiful cottage is located in a soothing and natural setting with waterfalls and abundant flora and fauna. It is less than one mile to historic downtown Hilo, yet you feel far removed.
Mika Mizu was designed for 2 guests, but will comfortably accommodate 3. The cottage is stocked with amenities such as spices and cooking staples in an efficiency kitchen with a full size refrigerator, a built-in 2-burner stovetop, a microwave/convection oven, a toaster and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking. Also provided are both high speed WiFi and cable TV. It has been tastefully furnished in a casually elegant Island style, creating a very congenial ambiance for your comfort and enjoyment. You will be amazed at this wonderful vacation find.
Hilo is the second largest city in the Hawaiian Islands. There is a four-year University of Hawaii campus in Hilo, several fine restaurants, a Tsunami museum, and interesting events occurring at all times of the year. The natural beauty of the area is astounding. Many waterfalls, nature hikes, boogie boarding, surfing, botanical gardens, and scenic drives through rainforests are all nearby. Volcano National Park is approximately 45 minutes away. Kailua-Kona, the tourist area of the Big Island, with its many high-end Kohala Coast hotels, is one and a half hours away. Waimea, the paniolo (cowboy) region of Parker Ranch fame is approximately one hour. The Waipio Valley and its lovely lookout is one hour. You can take helicopter rides over this taro-filled valley with its dramatic cliffs that plunge to the sea. You can do the same if you wish to see what our very active Kilaeua Volcano is up to. And Mauna Kea, our gigantic mountain with its world renowned Keck Observatory, might be snow capped while you are here - quite the sight looking up from the shores of the blue Pacific.
Note: Mika Mizu is not appropriate for children under 6 years

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.
We are happy to have this wonderful cottage in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people. Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the real Hawaii. The Farmers Market in town is a profusion of color from the many exotic flowers, fruits, and native crafts. One comes away with one comes away with a special feeling after exploring this unique area.
Great price for a beautifully furnished, comfortable and spacious cottage, located right in Hilo. Easy to get to many of the Big Island sights, lots to do and see.
We very much enjoyed staying at the cottage, it was very comfortable and the sound of the frogs plus the rain on the roof was fantastic!
This is probably one of the best places to stay on this side of the island. The balcony that overlooked the rain forest is awesome. Checking in was very simple and no trouble at all. The owners were very friendly and accommodating with each communication. The place does not have AC but it cools down enough at night to be suitable for sleeping. It has all the necessary amenities except an oven. The owner provides a thorough welcome book with everything you need to know. If you are not used to staying in this type of nature, be prepared for a musty/moldy smell at times. BUT the view is totally worth it and you get used to it very quickly. The city of Hilo was rougher than expected so I am so glad we found this tree house instead of a motel in the city. The waterfall just out back is an awesome bonus! No real complaints about this place. I definitely recommend this stay.
I have no complaints whatsoever about this charming cottage in the jungle! It was absolutely PERFECT! I'm hesitant about leaving a stellar review because I want to keep this place a secret, lol. I've never met the owners but I know they are some of the most awesome people on earth just by the way they pay every little attention to every little detail for the comfort of their guests to ensure you feel right at home and enjoy your stay. We've never had a more enjoyable stay anywhere...EVER!! We definitely left our hearts at Mika Mizu.
P.S. My only regret is that it wasn't sunny enough for us to swim in the backyard grotto to the waterfall. Next time for sure!!

Mika Mizu is up the hill from downtown Hilo. It has a very secluded feel, but is an easy drive from downtown and only a 25 min walk. The place is small, but very comfortable and perfect for couples. Nicely furnished. Only has a 2 burner gas stove top and convection microwave for cooking. Washer dryer is a nice feature. We have stayed here twice and would stay again.
Mika Mizu was everything we had hoped for while staying in Hilo. It's roomy enough for 2-3, has a small but well stocked kitchen, very clean and well maintained with some nice features and is conveniently located just a few blocks away from the center of Hilo. The frogs and creatures of the night seemed a little loud at first, but we got used to it and rather enjoyed it after the first night. Ear plugs are provided if you need a little more quiet. I think our only wish was that there was a stereo or something for some background music. We would definitely come back the next time we visit Hilo.
What a lovely place to stay! Very close to Hilo Town, quiet and secluded, with a great view from the deck. Great hosts who have thought of everything you could need.
My daughter and I had a wonderful time staying at Mika Mizu! So much that we extended our stay an extra night/day instead of returning to Kailua Kona. The house was very comfortable and everything was well thought out to ensure the guests comfort and ease. We loved walking in and finding a lovely gift basket to welcome us to our temporary home.
I love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for lovely meals on the lanai overlooking the gorgeous forest. The shower was unbeatable and the bed was more comfortable that the ones we have at home! The coqui's (small frogs) were a nice backdrop to our quiet evenings at home and didn't cause any sleep issues as I had feared. I did appreciate the earplugs on the night stand but we didn't need them. We just shut the windows and were fine.
It was a HUGE treat to have our very own waterfall and pond to swim in. It was my daughter's first time doing so and it was a highlight of the trip for her. Such a lovely walk down to the pond with it's refreshing water and beautiful surroundings.
The location of the cottage is perfect for exploring Hilo and places further off north and south.
We hope to return to the Big Island soon and when we do, we will plan our trip around the availability of Mika Mizu.
Thanks to Sarah and Jamie for their flexibility, attentive communication and beautiful house for others to enjoy.
Try swimming in our pond and up to and under the beautiful waterfall. An experience to remember.

This is the lowest price ever offered at Mika Mizu due to the special conditions of a neighbor having plans to build a house on the adjacent lot. During the construction phase, the usual quiet and serenity at our Waterfall Cottage may be impacted during the day time.
Mika Mizu is a unique and wonderful home in a fantastic location!
The time you spend here will be special and memorable. Mika Mizu is truly a tree top paradise!
