Why Margaret chose Central Coast California

Love the history of this house (built in 1908) and the location just could not have been better. We love spending time in PG and just parking the car for the weekend. So much to do and so relaxing at the same time.

Pacific Grove is home of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and main entrance to 17 Mile Drive. Within the city are spectacular vistas and recreational opportunities. Surfing is ideal at Asilomar State Beach. Kayaking and scuba diving allows you to visit with playful otters. Tide pooling for the nature enthusiast is available at several beaches. A walk or bike ride along the shoreline recreation trail offers breathtaking views of paradise.

Visit the Museum of Natural History, Point Pinos Lighthouse, tour Asilomar State Park, or enjoy the Sunset anywhere between Lovers Point Park and Asilomar Beach. Pacific Grove is known as Butterfly Town U.S.A. since every October the Monarchs migrate to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary where they winter until February. Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course is the top rated municipal golf in the state with over 70,000 rounds played annually. It is referred to as poor man's Pebble Beach due to its proximity and resemblance of Pebble Beach courses.

Enjoy a walking tour of downtown Pacific Grove. The town had its beginning in 1875 as a summer Methodist camp where several hundreds assembled to worship amidst rough tents. Tour brochures are available at the Chamber. http://www.pacificgrove.org/

Perfect weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, absolutely loved this home. It was the perfect place for us and it had all the amenities and comforts of home you could ask for - proximity to the ocean and downtown, surround sound in every room, fireplaces, beautiful kitchen, hot tub... we can hardly wait to go back! Thank you very much for allowing us to share your lovely home.

Amazing location - house needs maintenance

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this home in Aug 2014, and adored it. We came back to it this year because we didn't need as much space. When we arrived, everything looked great on the surface, but the then following continued to happen over our 4 night stay.

1) Electricity issues - either circuits flipping or outlets needing to be reset. Learned by trial & error that we could not operate the stove and a curling iron in the bathroom at the same time without something going awry.

2) No hair dryer in either bathroom. There were hair dryer attachments...but no dryer.

3) Kitchen sink spray hose - we gave up trying to pull it out for use, because we couldn't get it back in.

4) Hot tub - dirty pads all around (mildew, we assume)

5) Remotes/TVs - I believe there used to be instructions how to operate devices, but didn't see anything. (so at least it was a TV-light vacation?)

6) Living Room fireplace - wouldn't stay lit

7) No fans. We were there before the heat wave - so it was reasonably cool, but no air circulation made things very stuffy. Box fans in the bedrooms at least would be a nice addition (as well as some white noise).

For the expense per night, we were disappointed. I read recent reviews so I know we're not alone. We would consider staying at this home - and/or recommend it - if there were assurances that the above issues had been resolved.

Brilliant property in a lovely area

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed staying here. Has all the things you need. Hot tub was a definite plus point especially given the weather which was surprisingly cold.

Relaxing and charming

We had a great stay. Loved the surround sound and hot tub on the patio. Great location! We had 2 couples in our party and it was comfortable for all of us. Loved the house! Frank was very friendly and helpful at check-in.

Great location, overpriced accommodation that needs a refresh

  • 3 of 5

Loved montery and surrounding area, stunning scenery and a great vibe to the town! Cottage was in good location for nearby restaurants, car required for exploring further . Hot tub was nice and cottage perfectly functional but could do with refreshing, e.g. outdoor furniture needing a paint, bedroom furniture was basic at best, walls needed a paint, no hairdryer etc. Hope to return to the area but would go for one of local inns for accommodation.

Great location, but many features not working

  • 3 of 5

It's 2 blocks from a park and 4 blocks from the ocean and restaurants. It was very cute and quiet, and the out door fireplace was nice in the evenings. They provided 2 aquarium guest passes, which was an awesome surprise! There were several things not working though. The hot tub was green and smelled bad, the fire alarm chirped the entire first night and we found it hanging down dissasembled, the washing machine dial is busted, the towel rack in the master bath was hanging off the wall, the fire place in the living room would go out on it's own after only a short time, the tv remote was inoperable so we had to manually turn on/off the tv and the volume, the power went out in the morning for some reason and the manager told us we could call Pge ourselves for an update and the parking was street parking and very limited. We love visiting Pacific Grove every year with our family, but we will be trying a different vrbo next year.
